The SL Star spear guns models come in three lengths: SL 40 15.75 "(40 cm long), SL55 21.5 "(55 cm long) SL 70 27.5" (70 cm long).

Comments about Cressi Cressi SL Star Spear Guns:

I really liked the price of the gun, and initial inspection made it look pretty good. However, I shouldn't have gotten the 28" model because it was too long to load from the hip/thigh (was always afraid I was going to get careless and shoot myself in the neck while loading... careful attention avoided this, but was a constant nagging fear) and was too short to load from the ankle. Even when loading against the deck of a boat, I had to apply so much upper body pressure, I was always afraid I would end up leaning -over- it and spearing myself. Again, I was careful to avoid it, but I was always afraid I would get tired/careless and it would happen.

That said, I'm 6'2"/140lbs, so I've got the reach but I don't have a lot of strength (had to one arm the spear down to halfcock, then add the other arm to muscle it the rest of the way in). I really should have gotten the 24" gun... it would've suited me much better, so I don't fault the gun for this (just keep in mind).

What I do fault the gun for is quality. I bought it last January, used it May - July, and got several good cat's, carp, and red-ear with it. However, in late July, I fired at a cat (~20 ft down) and the gun discharged, but the spear didn't exit the barrel and oil began seeping into the water. It was as if I had just placed the spear in the barrel to load it - it was at the very end of the barrel, but still in it.

It seems as if the sleeve on the butt of the spear (this is all stock, btw) had slammed against the retainer ring at the end of the air piston/barrel and shoved the butt of the spear through the piston - releasing the oil contained therein.

I called Cressi support and it was estimated at around $100+ to fix it ($65 for basic repair, plus all damaged parts). I have a hard time paying $100+ for repair on a $130 gun, so I passed and am still looking for a new gun... probably a band gun : /

Anyway... long story short - it's a cheap gun, and it didn't do so hot with me, but other people have had good luck with it... so decide if you want to try it or not. The main thing to remember is getting a gun that fits you.... because, like I said, the 28" gun was too long for me since I'm not strong enough tocock it one armed and it felt a little bit dangerous because of that.

Comments about Cressi Cressi SL Star Spear Guns:

I just recently bought this gun off leisure-Pro this summer and i love it. i mainly target Saltwater mullet inshore and i havent had but 2 problems and one of them was my fault. first i broke my string that came with it but only bc i shot a big sting ray(mistake). and second the sting holder at the bottom of the trigger broke off but it wasnt nothing to make a new one out of a plastic electrical box. but i do not recomend a recoil system string it takes to much away from your shooting power. good shooting and good luck

Comments about Cressi Cressi SL Star Spear Guns:

I love this gun. I use it in Wisconsin for carp and have been getting them up to about 20+ lb with no problems. The spear head that comes with the gun is well...cheap. I would get a new one as soon as you can from Leisurepro. But keep in mind you will need to get an adaptor for the shaft to fit a JBL head. The only problem that I have with this gun is that it is VERY hard to load under water. With that exception it works great.Go to this youtube video address to see this gun in action on a carp that I shot. Note: This is not an add for anything but simply a video showing this speargun in action. It will make you want to get one. [@]Get this gun and go harvest some large fish.Happy shooting.

Comments about Cressi Cressi SL Star Spear Guns:

The gun comes with a very low pnuematic load... so you will have to pump it up several times to get a good blast. However, once the gun is properly pumped to your needs it is accurate and deadly. Don't purchase this gun with out also buying a stainless spring steel shaft. The shaft that comes with the gun is low grade metal (cadmium?) and will break... fast. I shot my first fish with the gun and strung the fish. The shaft head went into a lobster pot and when I wrestled with it the tip broke off. I then purchased a spring steel hawaiian flopper shaft. Since then I've shot it into rocks, pilings and all sorts of structure behind the fish. It has been an awesome gun since. I recommend the gun but it is a must to buy a spring steel shaft to make it complete. One another note... I was spearfishing in December with the gun and for some reason the trigger kept sticking. My friends were all using pneumatics (different brands) that day and we all encountered the same problem of the sticking triggers. We surmised that pneumatics don't like extreme cold water. However, this gun killed dozens of fish over the summer and fall here in New England.

Comments about Cressi Cressi SL Star Spear Guns:

this product is great i love using since i bought it have shot basically every type of freshwater fish, but the only draw back is the string i would recommend buying a recoil system so when you fire you dont have to take the time and rebundle the string. also you typically lose the plastic push down handle i used a wristband and still lost it
