Comments about Snap Sights/Intova Intova IC600 Underwater Digital Camera 6MP:

I bought one camera back in Nov 08, this camera lasted about four months than the shutter went, could only take video after this problem untill case leaked and camera did not work. Having bought external accesories sush as flash I purchased a second camera back in June 09, this camera flooded and does not work. Very slow shutter reponse from the time you hit the trigger till the time the shutter snaps making it very difficult to take pictures of moving fish and other subjects. Have been burned twice and would not purchase again

Decent Starter Underwater camera

Bottom Line:

Comments about Snap Sights/Intova Intova IC600 Underwater Digital Camera 6MP:

I dove with the camera as deep as 100 ft, without any problems. Best photo distance range: 3-10 ft. Beyond that distance, you start to lose granularity and color depth even at max zoom. The built-in flash is pretty weak, upto 4 ft. You can use photo editing software to digitally filter out the green or blue tone from the ocean. Decent camera for the casual photographer. Recommend AA rechargeable batteries. With flash, you'll burn through your batteries after 20 or more shots per dive. AA are less expensive than the SLR camera batteries.

Comments about Snap Sights/Intova Intova IC600 Underwater Digital Camera 6MP:

The camera is compact. And the housing is great. But taking photos on land or underwater is challenging due to a significant shutter delay. Since most objects never remain completely still, especially underwater, it does not produce consistently good photos. I've spoken with others who are semi-pro photographers and above and they have experienced the same issue.

For the price, you simply can NOT beat this deal! I have only been diving a short time, but am firmly in the take pictures of EVERYTHING phase of my diving. Highly intuitive camera, easy to use, and one day I will upgrade to a bigger and better Sea & Sea, but for now, Intova has provided great memories of Bonaire, Domenican Republic, and Hawaii.
Now, if I could only take pics that are not all blue...............

This camera was great. I bought it cause Like everyone else I wanted to take some pictures when I go diving (which I'm fairly new at). I shopped around quite a bit prior to buying and found this to be the best price with mostly descent reviews. Worked awesome. I took it to about 70 feet but took all my pictures from surface to 40 feet down and all came out clear, especially since the water was really murky, visibility of only about 10-15 feet. No joke about the battery life though, You can take roughly 40 pictures or so (with Durecell batteries) and look at all of them once or twice before it will go dead. Just bring a couple extras batteries and you'll be happy!!

Comments about Snap Sights/Intova Intova IC600 Underwater Digital Camera 6MP:

I bought this to stop wasting money on disposable waterproof cameras and film developing. I really like the watertight housing, lightness of the camera, and digital process. I, sadly, deleted more photos than I saved because I really need the lens filters to counteract all of the "blues" underwater.

Good Value, But not professional grade
By ChrisVerified Purchaser from Soutwest US on 1/14/2009
Pros:
Better than disposables, Digital capability, Fairly Good Pictures, Impressive housing, Inexpensive, One of best values, Uses AA batteries, Uses SD cards
Cons:

Best Uses:

Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Snap Sights/Intova Intova IC600 Underwater Digital Camera 6MP:

This is one of the better values on the market, if you do not need a serious professional camera. If you want something with quite a bit better picture quality than a disposable, with digital capability, but still priced reasonably - this is an excellent choice. The outer case is fairly impressive, and looks like cases costing much more. The camera seems a bit low-end for a digital camera, but adequate considering the overall package price. I would probably want to take along a second, better camera for land use if I was taking a major, hard-to-repeat vacation. A major "pro" is that it uses the generally-available SD-cards and the very-common AA Batteries. Almost every control on the camera is accounted for on the case, a "pro" in some respects; but also a "con" because the controls are rather tightly-packed and can be difficult to use, especially with gloves. The camera has set focus ranges, rather than continuously variable focus. It can be difficult to focus, and you can easily forget to change the focus. I usually leave the focus on the close-up setting, and get as close to the subject as I can - an advisable strategy underwater, anyway. The housing looks fairly robust, but after considering some of the other comments; I would probably use this mostly for snorkeling and shallow diving less than 30 feet.

Impossible to see the LCD screen underwater. So, you can't focus and see when the picture is taken. Too bad as the package is cost effective. I would not have bought it if I'd known this.

Comments about Snap Sights/Intova Intova IC600 Underwater Digital Camera 6MP:

I purchased the camera really expecting average results. I wasn’t getting my hopes up, but it was sure it was going to be better that using my $20 35mm underwater film camera. The results blew me away. It took me some time to figure out what the camera can and can’t do but the results were far better than what I expected, especially for the price. I haven’t got the chance to use the red filter yet, but the flash diffuser is a must have if you don’t have the PX-21 external flash, which I bought yesterday.

To those having troubles with things like shutter delays, battery consumption and shadow cast by the flash I tell you this... When you try to take a picture of a fish, be sure to press the picture button half the way down. this will make the camera focus and be ready to take the shot. You will see a green square once its ready. Keep the button half pressed and when you are ready, press it full down. The camera takes only 1.5 seconds to take the picture. Get rechargeable AA batteries that are over 2200 mAh. I have been able to make 4 dives taking over 300 pictures using 1 set of batteries, which for me is phenomenal. Shadow cast on the left side of the picture are cause by the casing, which blocks the left side when you use the flash. Simply get yourself the Flash Diffuser and this is solved.

I’m including some pictures I took with the IC600. Happy diving!

Comments about Snap Sights/Intova Intova IC600 Underwater Digital Camera 6MP:

Camera worked well for 15 dives ( none deeper than 100 feet ). After that, the inner o-ring failed.
This o-ring is actually glued in place by the manufacturer, so good luck trying to replace it.
Took me an hour to clear out the clear epoxy/glue and parts left over from the original o-ring.
I would not purchase another Intova, nor would I recommend it to anyone who intends on diving beyond 30 or 40 feet.
I routinely dive deeper than 100 feet, and I can no longer trust this enclosure, so now it's time to find something that actually lives up to it's claims.

Comments about Snap Sights/Intova Intova IC600 Underwater Digital Camera 6MP:

Although an avid amateur photog. for yrs., I decided to try my hand at underwater diving in the Turks & Caicos Is. just last week. You need the red filter and an external strobe (I used the matching PX-21 unit). Although there is a learning curve, a good underwater digital camera photo book helps lots. Used as deep as about 90'. I had much better than expected results once I learned when to use the color filter (always below about 30'), set the white balance to "cloudy", and take off the filter when using the strobe close in. The video mode works great and I got some spectacualr ones of the reef, a feeding turtle, and a reef shark. Some of the reviewers pan this unit for the delay between the shutter being pressed and the picture being taken. This will happen with almost all "point and shoot" digital cameras, but not with higher end digital SLRs. But for [$] for a camera and housing--the results are spectacular! Yes, you can "save your money" for a better setup and plunk down a grand--but give me a break! You won't be disappointed unless you have truly unrealistic expectations. Want to see? Check out my on-line album--just remember it was my FIRST attempt at underwater photos.[@]

Good camera for the rec diver. Took on my trip to Thailand, and it worked great. The water was pretty green, use the red filter and flash defuser and took some ok pics. The red lens is a must have. compare the two pics one with the red lens one with the defuser. Big different in color level.

Comments about Snap Sights/Intova Intova IC600 Underwater Digital Camera 6MP:

I tried using this product on land before I took it in the water and noticed an extremely slow shutter speed, not ideal for trying to capture action shots of fish and marine life. We used it on a diving trip to Bonaire and the pictures were abysmal, I was embarrassed to show people. It doesn't even have an underwater setting! Total waste of money, save your money up to buy a better one.

This is my 5th U/W Digital Camera. My previous unit cost twice as much and provided the same quality with fewer options. If you are looking for an economical way to capture your dives and create great memories- this is it! This camera's greatest feature is the ability to use every function without removing the camera from the housing. Invest in a good set of rechargable batteries, a red filter (helps put color back into deep photos) and a diffuser for the flash and you are ready to go. [...]

Comments about Snap Sights/Intova Intova IC600 Underwater Digital Camera 6MP:

The camera housing is brilliant. Been to 30m so far and will test it at 36m in a month or so. Very easy to operate at depth with gloves on etc.

The quality of the pictures is not in the same league as my Canon S3 (which doesn't get used underwater) or my brothers Fuji F30 (which does). However, the package is less than half the price of those so a good compromise.

Can get the odd blurry photo because there is a delay on the camera between pushing the button and the picture being taken.

Have got some good pictures so far and overall I'm very pleased with the package.
