Comments about Sealife SeaLife SL160 DC600 Reefmaster 6.1MP Underwater Digital Camera:

Takes great picture underwater, which is why I bought it, but it is not a good land camera. You definitly need the external flash to reduce the back-scatter.

The battery for this unit is terrible only lasts about 45 min. to an hour with consevative use.

I would still recommend this camera dispite the drawbacks for it's good quality and ease of use.

I use the camera for taking diving pics. I originally bought for a trip I did to Cuba!

After 3 dives and some blurry pictures I learn to take great pictures!

Battery life sucks; but it does last for two dives! So if you plan to do 4 dive

Comments about Sealife SeaLife SL160 DC600 Reefmaster 6.1MP Underwater Digital Camera:

The camera is a good overall camera and as long as there is sufficient lighting underwater it takes great shots. Unfortunately the first dive I took it on was a cavern dive and it was a little dark down there. I tried to force the flash to fire and even when forced it wouldn't fire correctly sometimes. Seems very intermittent. (Keep in mind I do not have the external flash yet)

I think it would probably be much better with the external flash.

Upgrading from the DC500

Comments about Sealife SeaLife SL160 DC600 Reefmaster 6.1MP Underwater Digital Camera:

I am upgrading from the DC500, which I have used around the world for 2 years. Inexpensive underwater cameras with good features...not great or pro, but plenty of options.

CAUTION, THO!!!! I had to replace the camera because I flooded the daggone thing in Truk...DO NOT enter with this camera, ALWAYS have it handed down to you. Hard lesson. This isn't a pro camera, but nice souvenir photos with good features, and occasionaly I get a fabulous shot.

Just got back from Bonaire and only have positives to say about the DC-600. Used the camera with the SL-960 strobe and a flsh link. Took wonderful pictures with such vivid colors. Actually won the weekly photo contest while in Bonaire. Would highly recommend this camera to not only the beginner but the Enthusiast as well!!

A good system for the money!
By SkipVerified Purchaser from Olympia, WA on 2/5/2008
Pros:
Nice compact system
Cons:
Can lock in movie mode
Best Uses:
Diving, Snorkeling

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Sealife SeaLife SL160 DC600 Reefmaster 6.1MP Underwater Digital Camera:

Underwater access to the actual playback/movie/still switch would be an improvement because in the external flash mode (necessary to toggle between these modes in the underwater housing) I had the camera lock in the movie mode twice -- no more stills from that point in the dive... just taking video. The unit is nice for the money. The flash not as bright, nor the wide angle as wide, as more expensive units. I like the compact size because it's easy to use underwater.

Comments about Sealife SeaLife SL160 DC600 Reefmaster 6.1MP Underwater Digital Camera:

Takes great underwater/sports shots but dont expect it to replace your regular camera for day to day pictures. It works best underwater or outside and captures fast images very well. But indors or regular "family type" shots it strugles with. Often blury and poor white balance even when it indicates the shot is in focus and ready to take. Picture colour is often very dark. Use it as your dive camera and you wont be dissapointed.

Comments about Sealife SeaLife SL160 DC600 Reefmaster 6.1MP Underwater Digital Camera:

This is a great camera for underwater use, but when you take it out of the case it becomes difficult to use for one reason. When you take a picture in many of the other modes if you are not totally still and have the propper lighting the picture will not come out. Yet when you are under water in "Sea" mode it works great, and you can swap back from the still picture mode to the video mode easily while down. Good for the purpose, but not on the surface.

Comments about Sealife SeaLife SL160 DC600 Reefmaster 6.1MP Underwater Digital Camera:

I have owned many underwater cameras from housed 35mm to housed video cameras. This little camera does a good job with still pictures and shoots video with the turn of a switch. I have several scuba websites and I can download the video right to my server which was a pain with the housed super 8.

Overall good camera. Great photos. Shutter speed needs to be adjusted or photos will blur real easy if not real still. Only thing I did not like was the battery life. After a two tank trip its dead. Tried two different batteries same thing.

Comments about Sealife SeaLife SL160 DC600 Reefmaster 6.1MP Underwater Digital Camera:

the underwater pics I could not ask for more. Clear, good color, built in macro is great! Above water it is a toss up. Shutter spead very slow on surface settings and causes blurr images if anything moves. It has to many settings to go through: night, candel light, sports, panoramic, etc to just name a FEW! But if you want a underwater digital I would buy again and I will by another for my wife so we both have one.
