Using the sync cord defintiely made a difference in photo quality. The flash goes off everytime with the direct connection. In the past it was hit or miss when the flash would fire, sometimes causing me to miss great shots. That problem no longer exists with this cord - definitely worth the cost.

In addition, you need the gromet that comes w/ Strobe Mask Set & the special strobe attachment that allows the L-cord to attach to the strobe sensor (another $25).

Had Sea and Sea's original (1st gen) fiber optic synch cord go bad on a Cozumel trip- strobe would intermitantly not fire. Their new cord is a vast improvement- heavier optical cord, better end connections (the old one would come loose off camera housing if bumped), and generally much more rugged. Since I switched cords, my strobe fires every time.

The old cable had straight-in connectors and broke because of the bending. This cable, though a bit pricy, has right-angle connectors and should last a long time. It has been successfully used with a YS90DX strobe and Olympus PT-037 housing on 19 dives so far.
