The 8000G's zoom lens contains nine lens elements in seven groups and employs an optical 3x zoom that expands to 28mm at full wide angle and captures ample light around its edges.
The 8000G camera has a stylish aluminum alloy body that fits comfortably in your hand. The platinum-silver coated grip makes the camera easy to hold and shoot. The 8000G camera goes beyond still images: it shoots movies! It can capture high-quality moving images (AVI format, 30 fps) underwater, and can shoot until the camera's memory is filled.
You can customize the 8000G camera's ADJ button to display parameter settings that you use most often: exposure compensation, white balance, ISO, and other functions.
You can display a real-time histogram on the LCD monitor while you're shooting so you can see the light levels in your image, or display the histogram for images you've already captured.
White balance works a little like a color filter. The 8000G offers six white-balance modes: Auto, Daylight, Overcast, Tungsten Light, Fluorescent Light, and One-Push (Manual Setting) that manually sets the white balance.
You can set exposure compensation in fine increments of 1/3 EV, perfect for capturing images with tricky lighting. Exposure compensation ranges from +2.0 EVto -2.0 EV in 1/3 EV increments for fine adjustment.
The aperture prioritized exposure mode lets you set the size of the iris opening in the camera's lens. You can use it to control the depth of field. The 8000G supports three types of power supply: a high-capacity rechargeable battery, AA batteries, and an AC adapter.
The rechargeable battery lets you work for extended periods without battery change, and captures about 400 images when it's fully charged. AA batteries are a convenient backup if you find yourself unexpectedly without a charged rechargeable battery; they will capture about 80 images when fresh.
And if you're shooting indoors, the optional AC adapter captures an unlimited number of images. Manual Focus/AF Target MoveManual focus allows you to manually set the focus in conditions where automatic focus can't get a lock on your subject.

The only issues I had was I bought the package which contained the YS27DX strobe and the foam in the case was obviously pre cut for another flash. A sharp knife and a little of my time and it seems to work fine. The case is FULL with the flash and wide angle lens added in. NO extra space. But overall I'm very happy with it. [...]

Great entry level camera. Suitable for beginners and enthusiasts. Takes great photos with natural light, suggest getting wide angle lens. Only downfall of this camera, like many prosumer cameras, is that you cant hardwire a strobe to it. You need to use fibre optical cable so strobe is fired in time with internal flash. Therefore it doesnt matter how fast your strobe is you are limited by the recoil time of the camera's flash which is a little slow. Suggest getting a stobe like YS110 or better as you will be able to take your strobe with you as you upgrade your camera. Overall a great camera that will serve you well for recreational photography.

I have taken pictures both in the ocean, in lakes and in dive ponds. It does great above and below the surface. It's a little bulky for small hands and hard to handle with an external flash attached but takes overall great pictures.
