Comments about Sea and Sea Sea & Sea DX-1G 10 Megapixel Digital Camera and Housing:

I bought this camera shortly after it came out on the market. I was on a trip and my other camera was stolen. I was expecting so much more from a camera of this caliber.

While there are many many settings to fine tune for your enviroment they are not easy to use.

Sea & Sea mode allows taking great pictures at depth but the recycle time is way too long. The key reason is Sea & Sea mode can ONLY capture in RAW format. I'm using the fastest memory card avalaible so there is no way to avoid this recycle time without switching to another mode which will add your blue tints back. When you spend several minutes taking just a few shots while waiting for the camera to recycle you pretty much have to "save" any shots incase you get the PERFECT shot otherwise you'll miss it waitng for the camera to recycle.

The quality of the camera is good, the housing is solid. It will take a beating and still stay sealed. The only issue I've had with the housing is the lense sometimes get stuck on the rubber boot of the case when powering on the unit and you can't use the camera until you surface and remove the camera and replace it. This can easily be avoided by turning the camera on after it's placed in the case but before you enter the water. I have to admit that this is the last thing on my mind when I put the camera in the case.

One very good this about this camera is, if your Sea & Sea battery pack dies this camera accepts 2x AAA batteries in its place. If you do need to resoert to the AAA batteries beware the internal flash will eat them. I would suggest getting some NiMH rechargables. I can easily get several dives off a set of rechargables but I usualy only get about 10 pictures on standard AAA batteries.

I own a strobe and the integration is great. The fiber optic cable and ports make it a simple. I have to give them credit for that.

Camera has support for the wide angle lense.

All in all, this camera is not for beginners. If you do buy it I would suggest that you seek out someone owns this camera to show you how best to use it. A high capacity high speed memory card is a must. In RAW format images are 4MB while the RAW file is roughly 16-20MB making the card fill up quickly.

My Canon A650IS is much easier to use and produces equal quality photos when used with a strobe. Shop around, do your homework and see what other options you have before making this purchase or you too may be left desiring more from your new camera.
