The AF35 AutoFlash Kit is the choice in underwater strobe lighting for compact digital systems. No other system rivals it for affordability, durability and ease of use. Add a second strobe or video light to get the best results possiblefrom any compact camera system. This small and compact strobe has a coverage angle of 70 degrees and 80 degrees with the diffuser. Strobe runs on 4 AA Alkaline, NiCad or Ni-MH batteries (not included) and will give up to 300 flashes at full power on a set of batteries. The recycle time is 2.5 seconds andthe strobe has a color temperature of 5700 degrees Kelvin.
"AutoFlash" Wireless TTL Exposure: The proprietary AutoFlash built-in sensor transmits data from the camera's flash to the AF35 strobe, varying the strobe's power automatically to replicate "TTL" exposure. The AutoFlash system is designed to the camera's pre-flash sequence to fire the strobe at the correct time and maximize output.
No fiber optic cable needed: The AutoFlash sensor is positioned to provide the most reliable strobe triggering possible without exposed cables which require maintenance and can tangle or break.
Ergonomic styling: Two large, easy to read dials provide all of the settings necessary for control of the flash system. The AF35 strobe rear dial features: OFF, Auto (TTL) plus six Manual Power settings. The AutoFlash sensor rear dial provides simple plus/minus EV exposure compensation in the Auto (TTL) mode. The system's comfortable rubberized grip and neutral buoyancy make it a pleasurable addition to any housing. A flexible arm system allows quick repositioning of thestrobe angle and adds no weight to the system.
Clear compatibility: The AF35 AutoFlash kit comes standard with everything needed to attach to Ikelite ULTRAcompact housings, some Ikelite Compact Digital housings as well as most OEM housings from Olympus, Canon and Sony. The AutoFlash wireless TTL system is compatible with any camera which emits a pre-flash sequence (i.e. most digital cameras produced in the past few years. Canon compact cameras emit a pre-flash sequence in all camera modes except "M" manual mode).
The AF35 kit tray features two 12-24 mounting points spaced 3" apart for attachment to Ikelite housings. A central 1/4-20 tripod mounting point allows attachment to most non-Ikelite compact housings. Anti-rotation adapter plates are included for use with Olympus, Sony or Canon housings. Other brand housings are un-tested and may exhibit rotation on the tray. Strobe and components are depth rated to 300' (90 meters).

I bought a Canon S90 w/ Ikelite housing to go with 2 of these strobes. I also used the strobes with a Canon G9 w/ Canon housing.
I received the strobes right before a trip to Bonaire - took pictures every day and very pleased with the stobes. I bought these strobes mainly for ease of set-up and use.
The strobes were easy to attach to the tray - and only 2 dials and no exposed cords as the stobe(s) are triggered by the internal flash of the camera.
I used the auto mode a great deal of the time - did take it off for some shots of critters in holes - where I needed brighter light. Very easy!!! The strobes works well in auto or manual modes.
Major plus - included in the kit - was a Canon housing 'converter' to attach to the tray so I can use either camera & housing.
Only con - (wasn't a problem for me) is the length of the strobe arm is not adjustable - you can move the arm around - but you can't make it longer or shorter - again not an issue for me.
I was extremely pleased with the stobes!

Excellent, easy to use strobe package for digital camera. Great photos already. Sealed except for battery compartment which has good seal. Nicely designed slave doesn't require an optical cable (which got stuck in the housing of my last setup and flooded the camera). Just pop in batteries and attach to the camera housing and attach simple cover over flash and you are ready to go.

I am a novice diver, I never took a picture underwater before. I bought the Ikelite casing for my Nikon S550 and coupled it with this flash and a wide angle lens. The whole package is slightly negative and I did not have to change my buoyancy set up. I took pictures of lilly pads underwater in a lake in northern WI, visibility was low and the bottom of the lake was mucky. I am very satisfied with the results, given the facts that I am not a skilled diver and it was my first time taking pictures underwater.

I have used this product on several dive trips. It is a good value for someone that wants good equipment, but doesn't want to invest over $500 in a strobe. I have dropped it and banged it on the boats and it keeps working.
The remote sensor works very well and there is no noticeable flash delay. I use rechargeable AA batteries and they last through one day's dive trip with no problem.
I have found it to work best using manual settings based on conditions. It is powerful and usually requires you to aim it away from the subject slightly. Once you get the hang of it this strobe takes good pictures.
Mine flooded on my first trip probably due to human error. I sent it back to the manufacturer and they repaired it for free with no questions asked. That alone makes this the strobe for me.
