Bought the camera for the British Virgin Islands i got bad dark pictures in clear water at shallow depths. Lucky my friends had other cameras so they were able to share their pictures with me.

Seals were perfect on an 8 day excursion to Tortola. I thought it would be just a cheap camera to hold me over until I found a dive shop, but it worked so well I ended up using it the whole trip. Downside, the photos are dark and fairly colorless [...] 2 thumbs up!

I bought three of these, from two different stores. The first one leaked after 10 minutes at 25', killing the flash. I managed to get a couple of pictures off that roll (with color streaks), taken on the surface -- all others were ruined. Since I'd opened it up to check how things were arranged, I figured maybe I hadn't sealed it properly. So I took that one back and bought another. Managed to shoot about half the roll, at depths down to 55' or so and maybe an hour total, when the flash died. Looked at the case, water inside again. The shots I was able to take were okay for what the camera is, a cheap fixed-focus point and shoot. The saleslady who sold it to me was parked right next to me at the dive site, so I showed her the water inside the case. Took that one back the next day, and just in case I'd gotten a bad batch, decided to buy one from another store (of the same chain). Results the same as previous; worked for a while at moderate depths then leaked, despite my never opening it. Talked to one of the guys at a local dive shop; they'd never had problems with the old model, but the new one was being returned frequently. Avoid unless you want to take a chance. Maybe they'll get their act together. Oh, winding the thumbwheel to advance the film is a pain, in gloves.

I'm experienced and dive with an old, but very good Nikonos V system. My 14yr. old wanted a "BC camera" to learn to do UW photos-mine was too big/complex. I found this one a very inexpensive intro camera for him to use. It worked "well enough" considering the flash was right next to the lense. Backscatter was bad in low viz, but in clear water we got some pretty good shots. Like any UW camera, get as close as you can, hold it very still and don't stir up the bottom. It could use a closer focusing lens. It needs weight to keep it from floating away. It is nOT a camera to grow with, just to start with...ours was leak-free to 65'.

Took this on a trip to the Flower Gardens and it leaked at 70ft! Don't waste your money on this one.
