Brand: Underwater Kinetics
Located in: Add-On Gear, Lights
The high intensity SL4 eLED dive light is ideal for minimizing weight for travel due to its high brightness, small size and long burn time. Underwater, you can stow it out of the way in your BC pocket for when you go over the wall or peer deep under a ledge. As a back-up, the SL4 provides plenty of illumination to finish your dive. The eLED circuitry provides relatively constant brightness throughout most of the life of the batteries. As the batteries are nearly depleted the brightness of the LED falls sharply, but does not go out as happens with classical filament lamps. This brightness will persist for several days. Valuable for emergency situations.

The SL4 LED operates more efficiently and produces more light when it is cool. Underwater, the SL4 eLED burns brighter for almost half of the battery life, due to the unique way that heat is conducted away from the LED. The higher brightness consumes a little more power and slightly reduces the battery life.

The UK SL4 eLed is my first dive light and I have found it easy to use, rugged, and bright. I use it as my primary light for tropical night diving and as a spotting light during the day. It has a bright focused center beam with a wider low intensity outside beam. I highly recommend this light.

I've dove with this light on nearly every dive I've been on. In the lovely Wisconsin waters every dive is basically a night dive below the thermocline in local lakes. Has worked really well, nice bright light. Love that the LED does not drain the batteries like other lights may.

Comments about Underwater Kinetics Underwater Kinetics Sunlight SL4 eLED Dive Light:

i think UK are the best dive lights. i use the SL4 as my primary and the miniQ40 as my back up. it's plenty bright. i'm not blind. SL4 is adequate for any occasion i have encountered. it's better than bigger 8-battery bulb lights that i have used, for sure. also the switch in the SL4 is great. wish the miniQ40 had one. and i don't know what the other people are doing, but i have no troubles inserting batteries. it's a very simple design. it's good. buy one.
P.S. eLED is the way to go! DON'T buy bulb lights. batteries last so much longer (at least ten times longer) and eLEDs don't break. my tech-diver freind said "get eLED-trust me!" he was right. trust me.

Comments about Underwater Kinetics Underwater Kinetics Sunlight SL4 eLED Dive Light:

Bought 2 of these as new back up lights for myself and my wife with the C8 eLED as our primaries. First try was with looking into the coral on a day dive. Lit pretty well from a couple feet away. Did not have to be right on top of where you were trying to look. Used as well on a night dive and the light was very bright. Could actually use as a primary in crystal clear waters. I may actually use this as a primary as I become more comfortable on night dives. My light has some sort of malfunction with the on off switch where it won't completely shut off causing the led to have some power which causes a very very weak output or it won't shut off at all. Have to contact UK about it. My wife's light has not had any problems, granted it was not used as much as mine on the trip, it was used much the same way. Overall I am happy with the lights and I hope to have mine back in working condition soon.

I actually bought this to take the led bulb assembly out and mount it in a Halcyon Scout light. It is much cheaper than the Scout replacement. The LED is MUCH brighter than the older xenon scout bulb. I use it for a backup emergency llght so I like the reliability and life of the LED. This was an experiment to see if it would function in a scout. I plan on buying another one for my other backup light.

Comments about Underwater Kinetics Underwater Kinetics Sunlight SL4 eLED Dive Light:

I use this light during power station/utility boiler inspections. The light is very bright, the battery life is excellent and the light keeps working even after it has been dropped, (try that with the standard SL4 and you will be in the dark!!). Currently the only problem I have experienced is that at times the intensity of the light can wash out a digital photo if taken to close.

Comments about Underwater Kinetics Underwater Kinetics Sunlight SL4 eLED Dive Light:

I use this light find critters hiding during the day ... lobster, crabs, etc. It also works as a pointer to show things to my dive buddy. I rented a bigger size light on my last night dive and planed to use the Underwater Kinetics Sunlight SL4 eLED Dive Light as a back up. Bigger isn't always better ... the SL4 eLED was much brighter than the bigger UK I rented. I gave the light 4 flags, since I haven't used it for very long.

I'm primarily a warm water diver (wimp?).
Nearly 300 dives in last 10 years - this light has replaced the Ikelite PC I've carried for many years and is always in the BC pocket. It's also good enough to use as a primary light on most Carribean night dives.

Great little light that burns long and gave me a bright white light. The beam was narrow and even during the day it was perfect for looking under ledges. I used it on a night dive as a back up and was very very satisfied! Buy this one, its worth it!!

By KeithVerified Reviewer from Atlanta, Ga on 3/21/2007

Compact, High Intensity
Best Uses:

Bottom Line:

Comments about Underwater Kinetics Underwater Kinetics Sunlight SL4 eLED Dive Light:

The light has a very strong, white light. It's small enough to shine into small cubbyholes or under ledges. It's also bright enough to light up distant parts in a room on a wreck dive.
Unfortunately, the housing with the C-cells is so tight it is VERY difficult to change the batteries. I took the batteries out before putting into a bag checked for a flight and it took me over an hour to pry the batteries back into it. I was able to get them in with a long screwdriver but marred the inside of the housing in doing so.
