I just found one of these on a wreck off NJ. It looks like it had been down for at least a year judging by the growth on it. Before I brought it up I checked it, and it fired right up.

Comments about Underwater Kinetics Underwater Kinetics Sunlight "C8" Dive Light with Pistol Grip:

Every year when I get out my gear to go on my annual dive trip I have problems with this light. After sending it in for service and being told there was nothing wrong with it the dealer mentioned it would only work on Duracell batteries.

Now the spring load at the bottom of the light is loose and it is difficult to get any batteries in it.

I'd find a different, less eccentric light if I were purchasing one.

Comments about Underwater Kinetics Underwater Kinetics Sunlight "C8" Dive Light with Pistol Grip:

Yes, it looks dorky, but it works, it's cheap and it had a second bulb that you can switch with the flip of a switch. I have the optional 18.2 volt bulb in the back-up position so as to give me a hi/lo beam choice.

I went ultra cheesy and got the lime green model. I figured that I would have to be the only diver with a light that was both ugly and fluorescent green on any given dive.

Had a Light Cannon that gave 7 years of great service. Had 3 hiccups with it... 1 bulb needed to be replaced and was 89 bucks, had the head unit go and was replaced under warranty, and the last time out it flooded and the light was DOA. I purchased a C8 because I could not pony up 199 + the fear of purchasing a 89+ bucks a bulb when it goes. Yes it is bright.. but to me not worth the cost. Diving NJ wrecks I find the C8 plenty of light. And if you drop it, smash it, or loose it... don't worry they are only 49 bucks so you don't feel as bad when you flood it. Give it to a noob and they lose it.. who cares..

If you are the guy that MUST need the BEST. Get the HID LC, but for me, I really can care less that the light is blue vs Yellow as long as it works. I liked the idea of having two bulbs in one unit. The C8 is kinda built cheesy, but it works. When you rotate the switch, there is a cam inside that rotates the 2nd bulb on the battery contact. So if one goes underwater, no need to dig for your back up. Or for people that buy the upgrade kit they can put the 18.5 watt bulb in position 2 and have essentially a high/and low beam feature.

Again I had the LC HID.. I liked it.. but for 49 bucks for the basic C8.. I don't cringe when I drop it on the deck of the boat. It's simple and it works. I found in bad vis more light can be bad because you get a bunch of backscatter from the particulates in the water.. so sometimes the HID was overkill and I would use my C4 back up instead. But for warm water diving with great VIS the HID was just pure bragging rights. For me I'm pretty comfortable with myself and don't need bragging rights.. But if you are the guy that is willing to pony up the $$ to have the best.. go for the LC. For all others that just need a functioning simple, cost effective light.. the C8 is great.

Comments about Underwater Kinetics Underwater Kinetics Sunlight "C8" Dive Light with Pistol Grip:

Rattling of lens in normal due to internal beads that prevent a battery leak that could back flow in lens. Caused by not removing the batteries after sitting for some time, like any battery operated item. * This should be listed under light remarks with an astrek as a normal sound.

Awesome light went throught several prior to this one. Borrowed a friends was hooked. ELED light too pricey now, and LED conversion is available. I had never made a review, this deserves one. Best price on net, weight of light nothing once underwater.

No I am not affiliated with this company or seller. If your questioning the C4 as an option, C8 is a better choice for brightness and duration. Encourage you to research, but I'll save you the 2 hrs of comparing.
