Comments about Ikelite Ikelite PC-A Halogen Light:

I really loved this light until it bumped the ladder getting on the boat and fell apart on my last dive (unfortunately the batteries and "innards" sunk). Luckily it was at the end of the dive. I felt like I must have done something wrong since the light was so difficult to open and was surprised to see how many people have reported the same type of problem. I would be VERY hesitant now to use this other than an auxiliary light and NEVER depend on it as a primary. Too bad because I did like it alot....

Comments about Ikelite Ikelite PC-A Halogen Light:

This was the first dive light I ever purchased. My dive instructor recommended it when I was renting equipment for my tenth dive. It totally changed my daytime diving experience. Being able to see the true colors of those gorgeous red, purple, and pink sunstars was well worth the [$]I paid for this little light. My dive buddies would often swim over to borrow the light to check something out. We were able to see lobsters under rocks and it's convenient to get somebody's attention by waving the light.I highly recommend this light for increasing visibility during daytime dives, or as a backup light. It's not bright enough that I'd feel comfortable using it as a primary light for a night dive or cave dive.I had the same problem that other reviewers had, it comes open too easily. Lucky for me, I never had it open while I was under water, but it did always fall open in my bag. After my last dive, it came open in the suitcase and the plastic pieces inside were broken and lost by the time I got home. It lasted me a good 5 years. My next light will be a little brighter and a little sturdier, but this was a great My First Dive Light.

Comments about Ikelite Ikelite PC-A Halogen Light:

A good compact light that is very bright and focused for its small size. A good tropical night dive light that is small for travel or a good focused backup light for cold, low visibility diving. Only cons: (1) a large number (QTY=6) of AA batteries are needed and (2) the newer models have a locking switch that can be difficult to use with cold-water gloves.

Comments about Ikelite Ikelite PC-A Halogen Light:

This light gives good light when it works, but it opens too easily underwater. The safety latches for it's unique design are too easy to trip when you're working with gloves on and the heavy spring inside which keeps the contact readily bursts the top off if the retaining plastic piece is slightly open. It's not a simple screw on cap to the battery compartment but instead I ended up with 3 peices in my hands and 6 batteries falling out of the canister in the middle of a night dive. Good thing I had a backup light!

Comments about Ikelite Ikelite PC-A Halogen Light:

This is my travel light, compact, very bright and lightweight. It works amazingly well as a primary in the hi-vis tropical waters I dive in. I use Lithium Ion AA which give much longer burn time and are a bit lighter in weight. If you use alkalines take an extra set for a week of diving.

This light also doubles as back-up to my D8, fitting nicely into a BC pocket, on low-vis dives.

I keep it in a pouch attached to my BC and apparently it knocked against something and opened up and then flooded underwater. How can something that is so hard to open purposely, open so easily by accident?

Comments about Ikelite Ikelite PC-A Halogen Light:

This is a fantastic light... if you treat it gingerly...
I have had one for about 6 monts now, and i like that its a very bright, small light. However, in the course of my work, the stuff gets alot of use (abuse? i try not to). Its so small that i usually leave it in my BC pocket(clipped to keep it from swimming away), so i dont forget it or have to fidget with it before the dive. I went to use it on a night dive when my primary died, and i found it had opened and drowned.
I'm sure if I take more care it may not happen again, but then another freind that has one says the same thing happened to hers.
I went and bought a Princeton Tec light with a screw on lid and that thing is solid. I have not and do not expect to have problems with it. Excellent for recreational divers, not so good for research or commercial divers.
