Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Aqua UnderWater Laser Pointer:

If you are in a low light dive you may be lucky to see a tiny red dot at close range (0-3 feet). I can only assume the the designer/engineer of this product never tried it themselves.

I am looking into a green laser. I hear that they are 10x more powerful and work well underwater. You can supposedly see the beam line in the water.

visible only in very low ambient light
By Deep Diver DanVerified Reviewer from Oahu, Hawaii on 10/28/2007
Pros:
Compact
Cons:
Breaks Easily, Very short range, Weak Beam
Best Uses:
Close-Up Viewing, Tank banger
Describe Yourself:
Advanced Diver
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Aqua UnderWater Laser Pointer:

The beam is very hard to spot if any ambient light is present. Range is very poor. I have taken this laser pointer on three dives and have not been able to find any use for it other than a tank banger! It has limited usefullness at night at close range, but if you can still point things out to your buddy better with a narrow beam flashlight. I am not satisfied at all with this product. On my last use, the laser emitter broke when I twisted the light to the on position.

Not very effective
By DumanVerified Reviewer from Denver, CO on 10/25/2007
Pros:
Compact
Cons:
Weak Beam
Describe Yourself:
Recreational Diver
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Aqua UnderWater Laser Pointer:

Great idea, but beam is too weak to be of any use. Nearly impossible to turn-on, unless exercised prior to dive, and o-ring has good lube. It's better to use a high-output flashlight as a pointer.

Handy little tool to point out that frogfish that others just can't see! No need to finger point and have your buddy look at you with that quizzical expression on their face!

This is great when diving with a buddy you can point at reef creatures without using hand signals or trying to show your buddy what you are looking at.

Invisible Light
By Albatross37Verified Reviewer from Boston, MA on 9/20/2007
Pros:
Works well above water
Cons:
No good for shallow depth
Best Uses:
Cave diving
Describe Yourself:
Advanced Diver, NaturalistSnorkel Guide
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Aqua UnderWater Laser Pointer:

I lead tour groups throughout the south Pacific, primarily snorkelers. I bought this item thinking it would work similar to a "lecture" laser pointer. However I was very disappointed with this product. It takes two hands to turn on and off, since you cannot see the red light you are never sure if it is actually on, which may lead to accidentally opening it underwater as it is a "twist" on / off switch.

Underwater the bean does not seem to stand out, especially at snorkel depths of 5 to 20 ft. This makes the item completely useless for anything if there is any available light.

The only possible time it may prove useful is night dives, or if you are in very dark locations (blue holes, caverns). In the complete dark the beam was visible.

Overall I could not say I was at all satisfied with this product. Partially this is due to what my expectations of its ability were.

None
Best Uses:

Comments about Aqua UnderWater Laser Pointer:

If only my other gear could be as cool as this lazer pointer. I zip tied it onto my dive light, which allows me to first aim it at my buddy's eyes and then turn it on. It's more of a surprise this way. Now I just need to find a good way to mount it on my spear gun. Bottom line, between this and my Oceanic Datamask I'm set for life.

Not very helpful
By Scuba JulieVerified Reviewer from Portland, Or on 5/30/2007
Cons:
Twist on-off not switch
Best Uses:
Close-Up Viewing, Recreational
Describe Yourself:
Recreational Diver
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Aqua UnderWater Laser Pointer:

I found that this laser pointer was not really helpful in pointing things to my dive buddy. While you could see the red dot, it was not easy to pick the red dot out of the other many colors on the reefs.

One major down-side is that you have to twist on/off the light. This means it takes two hands to turn it on/off.

It might be more helpful at night, however if you're diving at night, you can easily show your buddy what you're seeing with your regular light.
