This was my first knife and I don't plan to replace it. The grip seems really odd but is very comfortable in use. The blade holds up great and the metal end is great for getting other's attention. My brother has the Tusa Imprex knife which is great in its own right but I love my Blue Tang!

This is my second Blue-Tang Hydralloy knife. Unfortunately, I lost my first one that I'd been using for 3+ years. This is a great knife. The blade doesn't rust. Sometimes you'll see a small rust stain on the blade, but that's from an internal component of the sheath, I believe.
It holds an edge well. My first one freed me of a few monofilament entanglements, and quickly dispatched many fish that I'd speared.

Great Knife. The factory sharpening leaves a little to be desired but then i usually hone my blades until they cut you by looking at em funny...Just take a little time with the wet stone and you're good. Holds its edge well and is very easy to disasemble and clean after a dive. Well balanced and easy to use.

Comments about Underwater Kinetics Underwater Kinetics Blue-Tang HYDRALLOY Steel Knife, Blunt Point:

This is a great knife. I have had other knives, They were all pretty dull. This one can be honed to razor sharp and holds edge well. I have surprised others by having a dive knife sharp enough to really clean a fish. Line cutter and serrated edge both work well, too.

Because of stainless steel metal composition, it needs full freshwater rinse after diving to keep rust off. 318 stainless prevents rust better but has a poor edge and hardness. This 420 stainless steel is much better for sharpness. It comes apart so all parts can be cleaned and reassembled easily.

Great scabbard doesn't release knife until released by your hand. I have never had knife loosen or fall out.

Great straps have snaps that adjusted once, never need re-adjusting to your legs. The snap fittings are rugged and make the knife easy on/ easy off your leg which is best location. (preferred inside of calf so fewer snagging problems).

This knife is so good, I still use mine and just bought 2 more as gifts to other divers. You won't be disappointed. The only way to do better is get the $$$ titanium version.

Comments about Underwater Kinetics Underwater Kinetics Blue-Tang HYDRALLOY Steel Knife, Blunt Point:

I just bought 2 for gifts for other people this christmas. I have used this great knife for years and have been impressed in that it is the first really sharp dive knife I have ever seen. New, it can shave hair off of your arm. This sharpness can be maintained and it holds a great edge. This is because of the 420 stainless steel that is used. The 420SS may be more prone to rust than the 318 stainless but 318 cannot ever be sharp and cannot be sharpened well at all.

A dive knife is a tool and a blunt knife that won't cut is almost useless. This knife takes a little time to disassemble and rinse well but it is a minor inconvenience for an excellent knife.

The new Titanium knives may overall be better but are also a lot more costly. For the price, I cannot imagine a better dive knife than this Hydralloy 420SS model.

Also, the scabbard is well designed and I have never had the knife slip out of place. It releases well and easily when, and only when needed. Also, the leg straps are great and need be set up only once. The snaps on the straps are secure and easy to connect and disconnect from your leg.

Great all around dive knife. I normally dive with 5mm gloves on and it takes a few secconds to don. It holds a razor sharp edege and disassembles easy for cleaning. It would have been better with a metal assembly threads instead of plastic one but after 60+ dives it hasnt broken yet... After every dive i take it apart rinse it and spray it with wd-40 and I never had a problem with rusting. Id give it a 9.0 out of 10 due to the plastic assembly/disassembly threads other than that great its great fot the money.

I haven't used this knife yet..Great Lakes are COLD in December. It is a well styled knife and fits into the scabbard either way. It locks in real securely!
Unforunately I dive the Great Lakes which means poor visibility and heavy neopreme gloves. I have had similar knife in the past and know that it will be hard to get at quickly with one hand while wearing heavy gloves. This knife would be fine for light pleasure diving in warm water.

Comments about Underwater Kinetics Underwater Kinetics Blue-Tang HYDRALLOY Steel Knife, Blunt Point:

The craftsmanship of the knife is excellent. My only complaint with the knife itself is that it showed signs of rusting when taken apart for cleaning after a week of salt water diving. I recommend taking it apart and cleaning it as the instructions describe because the internal parts of the blade will quickly suffer from rust.

The sheath is an entirely different matter. It is plastic, not rubber so its stiff. That seemed good, but it is very poorly built. Mine fell apart during the second dive. The sheath literally separated at the seam because the poorly designed snaps sheared off. This was not a rigorous dive. It was strapped to my inner leg. From its recovery location it must have broken off during a back roll entry. Of course when the sheath separates the knife goes with the part that falls off. We had to do a recovery dive to find it. I zip tied the sheath back together thinking that would make it secure, but the clasp that actually holds the knife in the sheath is very loose and easily lets go of the knife even with a little water resistance.

This is a lot of money to pay for a knife you can't keep attached to you. I got a cheap sheath with a knife handle keeper and ditched the UK sheath. If you really want the knife I recommend getting a replacement sheath before using the knife underwater.

This knife is all one piece and works as well as any knife. The release is good but a little hard with thick gloves on. If you plan on diving a lot in cold water where thick gloves are essential, I would recommend a push button from the front.

Comments about Underwater Kinetics Underwater Kinetics Blue-Tang HYDRALLOY Steel Knife, Blunt Point:

The Blue Tang is a great dive knife. The knife locks securely in its sheath, yet it is easy to release when needed -- even with 7mm gloves. The attachment straps are comfortable to wear on a leg or arm, or can be removed all together and the knife (with sheath) can be slipped into a knife pocket of a dry suit. Comfortable grip.
The knife comes apart easily for cleaning. Though the alloy does resist corrosion better than stainless steel, precautions should still be taken with regular maintenance. A stabilizing knob inside the sheath does scratch the face of the blade.
Overall it is an excellent value, especially if you do not want to spend a lot for a titanium knife.

This knife is a cheap dive knife and you get what you pay for. This knife rusted after one dive (even after i cleaned it and dryed it). Also, the handle is removable and doesn't stay tight durring a dive. When i surfaced, the handle was about to fall off!
