I got this bag to carry my rEvo Mini Rebreather. This bag is just large enough for the CCR to fit, giving it the protection and portability I was looking for.

I read with amusement divers who think they can pack for three weeks and put everything in a carry-on. Get real. I have been diving for 37 years and would never consider trying to put my dive gear in a carry-on. And with the new weight requirements, my wife and I have to split gear just to check items like masks, fins, spare kits, lights, knives, BCDs, and all the little stuff one takes on a dive trip. What does go in your carry-on are items like, regs, dive computers, camera's, tickets, chargers, and yes, this bag allows you to take a laptop fully protected. We have been using this bag for nearly 2 years and I came to the site to purchase a second one for my daughter who is going to Europe this summer on a non-dive vacation. In fact, we have stopped using our Tumi carry-ons on business travel for this bag because of the laptop compartment. We have traveled the world diving and once landed in Australia with full complements of gear, cameras, and video equipment for 6 weeks of diving. We had 8 full bags with clothing. I wish we had a bag like this. It is a must for any serious diver.

I was totally psyched to buy and use this bag. However, it does not qualify in my opinion as a carry on bag. First, I was traveling for 3 wks in the Caribbean interviewing for instructor positions. I needed all my gear with me. I packed my BCD, masks and wet suit in the bag for the flight out of the states. Fins were in my other bag because this one would not allow them. When I did try to pack everything in the zippers pulled apart. I managed to get it to stay closed with only the fins missing. Reg went in the outside pocket. In order to use this bag as carry on and get it in an overhead, you can not pack a reg in the outside pocket, nor can you use the nicely designed organizer pocket at the top of the bag. With these filled it will not fit. On the way home I managed to fit my fins in, even though they are 1 inch longer than the bag, by laying the fins and wet suit inside the bcd and squeezing my masks and other random things in empty space that I had left. The reg still was outside. I actually got finished diving before the end of my trip and packed the bag and was concerned if I opened it I would not be able to get it closed properly again because the zippers are that unreliable. Even the front pocket zipper separated and that just had my reg in the Akona reg bag. I would suggest to anyone looking to buy a new bag, just get a bigger one that will hold all your gear nicely and be prepared to pay the extra bag fee. If you are island hopping like I was this fee is outrageous but you can not carry this bag on anyway. I only recommend this bag if you have to just carry a few dive items, and your BCD is one of the more inexpensive models or a back bladder model.

Bought the bag to use as my carry on and was forced to check it, since it was deemed too big for the overhead bins. This was on Taca, so I am not sure about other airlines, but was a major bummer, since I bought the bag so I would not have to check it...

So far I am completely satisfied with this bag. It is a great item and performed to my exacting expectations. I recommend purchasing the matched Pro Regulator bag as well.

Comments about Akona Akona Carry-on Roller Bag (AKB176):
This bag is high quality carry-on luggage. The materials are top-notch and so is the design--with one small but correctable flaw which I'll get to in a moment. I strongly recommend also buying the optional Pro Regulator Bag, which was made to fit perfectly in the carry-on's lower outside pocket. The regulator bag is well padded and has velcro tie downs to secure and protect your reg. Obviously, this carry-on bag can double as a piece of "regular" luggage by removing the regulator bag when you're not on a dive trip. The carry-on bag is roomy enough to hold plenty of personal items along with your mask and it has compartments for stowing personal effects like your passport, tickets, papers, pens, etc. The only design flaw is that the laptop zipper pull (the little plastic dangly thing on a string attached to the zipper metal slider) drags along the floor when tilting and rolling the bag--see the bottom right corner in the photo. The better design would have been for the laptop pocket zipper to zip up to close rather than down. This is easily fixed, however, by simply removing the zipper pull. Just clip off the string, toss the plastic pull in the trash and use the metal zipper slider as you would any zipper. Problem solved. The retractable handle has two locking positions to better accomodate people of varying heights. The laptop compartment is adequately padded, but I recommend also using a laptop bag for extra protection. Overall, all parts of this bag feel very durable. It should last for many years. In fact, I like this bag so much that I bought another one for my wife.
I have always enjoyed excellent service from Leisure Pro and remain a loyal customer.
