Dan c will this motor work on the sevylor on top kayak?
BILL B I put a Sevylor 18 lb. motor on my Sevylor inflatable boat to use on small lakes and carry it in my small motorhome.
I custom made a tiltable mount for the motor from pvc pipe and fittings using the two mounts on the stern of the boat, as the center mount is a joke.
I also made a tiller which clamps onto the shaft of the motor, runs sideways from the motor and then has a long hinged handle that goes forward, with an on-off switch on the end of it. If you try to sit in the boat and control the motor from the sitting position in the boat, you need arms coming out of your back--it's about impossible. Also, if there is any water in the boat, be prepared to get a wet behind.
I use the motor with a 25 amp hour agm battery, and it draws 12 amps on high speed, goes 3 mph, and will run at least an hour on high. Low speed seems about right for trolling( 8 amps). Don't hit rocks with the prop, it won't shatter, but dings easily. All in all, I'm happy with the motor, but the boat is really minimal. You must have a means to charge the battery each time you use the boat.
This rig is ok for occasional use, but if you do much fishing, get a real boat.
