hello i just got my sealife DC1200 camera with housing and the SL980 light so ...question 1 , i do need the sl962 optical link right...
q2 how does it hook to the light i understand how it hooks on the camera end with the adapter?
PAUL M The link helps fire the strobe at the right time and also blocks the flash from the camera. This can help eliminate shadows from the camera.
The link is fiber optic, it tucked under the rubber housing on my light , very easy to install. You don't need the link but I think it does help with picture quality.
MIKE P I recommend getting the optical link. It allows for better adjust of flash so you don?t wash out your pictures. And a more reliable flash.
JASON G I have an older version of the flash, and an older camera, so my answer is based on that scenario: On my Sealife flash, there are two round holes located on the bottom of the flash head. The other end of the cable has a flat round piece of plastic that slips under the rubber coating of the flash head. This will secure the fiber optic cable. to the flash head.
Looking on Sealife's website, the styling of the flashes has changed significantly so I can't really speak towards how the cable attaches. I would assume since the picture shows the cable, then you'll need it (and the cable includes all of the adapters necessary.)
JUAN C Hi, You don't need it, But I recommend getting it. It will prevent any flash delay. The optical cable when connected properly to the flash and the camera, the flash fires right on time every time. The instructions are pretty easy and the cable connects to the flash block and the flash itself. Hope this helps.
DALE R You only need the optical link if the eye on your flash isn't picking up the flash from your camera. The optical link is just a piece of fiber optic cable - one end is taped in front of the flash on your camera & the other is attached to the eye on the underside of your flash (looks like a little pinhole - there may be 2). Hope that helps.
ALDO C I am not sure about the DC 1200 but for the older model (DC 1000) the optical link was a must.
DOUG S The only Sealife product I owned was a DC 500, and it was, without a doubt, the worst camera/stobe outfit I've ever experienced. I sold it and bought a Canon/Ikelite housing/strobe outfit, and have been extremely pleased with it. So, I can't really answer your question, except to say I hope Seallife has greatly improved their underwater products.
KATHLEEN Q When I bought the 1000, it came with the link adaptor, so be sure you need it first. Either way, it is really easy to snap on over the lens extension.
LUIS G 1. you don't need the optical link. it is a better way to synch the two, but not a must have.
2. the way you hook it up to the flash is under the rubber "sleeve" on the flash.
