Questions about this item:
Shopper I am planning on purchasing this dc 1400 duo. If I did from leisure pro and had any issues with it who would I contact to fix the problem? most local dive shops will not help you out with internet bought products when they need repair work mainly warranty related.
Frank L You would contact either us directly, or the manufacturer, Sea Life. We are an authorized dealer, so you should not have any problems. You should go directly to the manufacturer for any warranty related problems, or send it back to us during the warranty period and we can send it to the manufacturer for you.
Shopper I have a sealife dc 1400 camera by itself... I'm wondering what the two large things are coming out of the sides. I think one of them is the strobe... What's the other one? Do you need both? I think a strobe would be helpful because I generally don't get great detail with just the camera alone unless I am very close to the subject. Would the strobe help with that? What's the thing coming off the arm on the other side and how important is that? Thanks!
MICHELE J The larger one is the strobe, which helps with obtaining true colors as long as you aren't taking pictures way off in the distance. The smaller one is a video light.
R M H One light is for video and the other is for photos. Video light is good for up to 6 to 8 feet
JEAN B One is a strobe as you thought and the other a high intensity light for shooting video. It can also help reduce shadows when shooting with the strobe.
However, I have taken some underwater photography classes and don't use my strobe hardly at all. Just doing a manual white balance before taking a picture works better than a flash. That white balance will need to be adjusted every time your depth changes +/- 3-5 feet. There is a white balance short cut built into the dc1400... I believe it is holding down the menu button, but don't recall for sure. Finally, use a program like Google Picasa and its "I'm feeling lucky" filter to automatically color adjust 90% of your pictures.
SCOTT G The larger one is the strobe flash, it goes off when you take a picture. The smaller light is a continous light with 3 modes. It has a high beam, medium, and low beam. I have owned this setup for about 6 months or so. I would buy it again, works well together. With the flash, you can be about 4-5 feet away from subject in clear water to get color. I have used the continous light instead of a flashlight on a nightdive.
ELIZABETH J That is a video lite on the right. the camera takes great video (HD).
I just returned from Cozumel were I shot mostly in video mode,
due to the currents. The colors just lit up with the video light.
A must for night dives. Even used this system in the cenote
system of Chac Mool.
GARY B The other item is a video light. As the strobe dramatically improves your ability to take clear still pictures, the video light dramatically improves the quality of your motion pictures. They are mounted on semi-flexible arms and either can be positioned away from your camera so that you can adjust the angle that light strikes your target. This also enables you to light your subject from an angle, reducing the interception and reflection from tiny objects between your shutter and your subject that can produce unwanted attributes in your image. The video light is awsome at night when it illuminates various objects and produces a striking image of true colors. Be careful not to point it directly at other divers as it is very bright. Both of these lights have their own power supply and subsequently do not directly impact the battery in your camera.
Randy D I have both. Just got them this summer and have not had the opportunity to use them very much, but have used both. One is a video light and the other is the flash for still shots.
ERIK S As pictured, there are two lights, one on either side of the camera. One is a strobe for taking still shots. The other is a video light for shooting video. The DC1400 is capable of taking video footage as well as stills. The lights will help significantly in low-light conditions (cloudy day, night, or deeper water, where sunlight does not penetrate). At relatively close distances (10ft or less) you will be amazed how much color and detail the strobe will add to your photos. Keep in mind however, that water scatters light quickly, so the lights will have less effect at subject distances greater than 10 ft. Also, in murky or cloudy water, the light from the strobe will be scattered back from the particles in the water and cause "snow" in your shots.
John I The second part is that, yes a strobe will help detail. Be sure to get a defuser also or you can wash out the subject.
John I They are a strobe and movie light. I think the strobe is enough because the movie light does not have a lot of power. It is most effective at night.
DANA B You are correct. One is a strobe flash. The other is a video light which is very good for shooting video in places where you don't get a lot of light. You can also add a second strobe rather than using a video light. This will help in reducing shadows. I have both the video and the strobe and my pictures have had so much more color saturation. I hope this helps!
Shopper Do I need to buy a memory card with this purchase?.If so,which one do you reccomend?
JERI M yes, you Need to purchase an sd card, right now I have used the sony 16gb card.
Don't that I can recommend it at this point since I'm still getting to know the camera. I do recommend getting diffuser for the strobe and a recharging unit which comes with another battery, beats charging thru the camera.
MICHELE J The camera has a 32mb internal memory. I bought an 8gb sdhc memory card and it works great.
STEVEN R Yes....As they are not that expensive, I would get the largest capacity memory card you can afford....
CHUCH E Yes you do need to purchase a memory card for the DC1400. I purchased a SanDisk Ultra 32 GB memory card. Ultra for the speed in which the card can write video data and 32 GB for the greater number of minutes of recording and the ability to shoot pictures until the battery is dead.
JEAN B Yes. Make sure it's a class 6 or higher to keep up with the video capture rate. Personally, I bought class 10 to be safe. I found the best results with patriot SD cards out performed sandisk. The latter actually caused my wife's SLR camera to stop shooting video as it couldn't keep up.
PAUL D I recommend the SanDisk 16GB Ultra. I also recommend an extra battery.
John I I would use a sandisk 16 gig ultra card.
ERIK S Yes, you'll need to purchase a memory card. Sealife recommends 16GigaByte Class 6 SDHC card. However, the size required depends on how much video you plan to take. 16GByte is plenty for stills and video. If you only take stills, you can use a much smaller capacity card than 16GBytes. The class 6 rating determines the speed data can be written to the card. Be sure the card you purchase is at least class 6.
R M H Any one is fine. I forgot to buy one before I left for Roatan so I pulled the 8 gig chip out of my camera and used it. Took some nice stills and video of my brother getting certified
