Questions about this item:
Shopper Can this dive computer be used with MAC software or is this strictly a PC compatible unit for the download kit?
DMITRIY M from Oceanic web site it does not look like they have MAC support, but feel free to ask them directly.
oceanic worldwide support on the internet
ALEX B As far as I know is only PC compatible. But you should research the market for another alternative. I bought a couple of them thinking that was a great item and so far is full of disappointments. Not only the computer keep breaking and having software issues, also their customer service is getting worse. Good Luck!
MICHAEL C The software that comes with the VT4 is PC only. I believe there is third party software available that will work though.
JUSTIN P yes, download macdive software, plug USB into MAC and VT4.1 and import dives. works great.
Joe S Mac Dive is your best option. It is compatible with most dive computers and is somewhat inexpensive. I use it personally for downloading my dives. It will work with the VT 4.1.
AUP will be launching it's Mac Software very soon though. So if you can wait a few more months it will be here.
GABRIEL D To my knowledge, it is strictly PC software. I won't run on the Mac.
Miyuki S There is no official support for Mac. You will need to run Windows on Bootcamp or use MacDive. http://www.mac-dive.com
SETH P Directly, Oceanics software is PC only. However, there are 3rd party applications, such as "Mac Dive," that will interface with and download you log profiles. I personally use Mac Dive to download and sync my dive profiles into my iPhone and iPad "Dive Log" app.
LISA T I had to return mine because at that time Oceanic did not support apple. I called oceanic about this and they said they were in the process of getting mac compatable, target for this past spring. I do not know if they did. I would call oceanic and ask if they now have the software to make mac compatable.
MICHAEL M I have not tried to download any data from VT-4 to my Mac Computer.
However, Oceanic headquarters ( 1-800-435-3483 in Calif ) should be able to answer your question.
Some Comments.
1. My rebate check arrived after 5 months of working with Oceranic and a third party that handles that end of the business.
2. VT 4 screen is somewhat easy to read but numbers are not as large as my previous Oceanic Pro Plus consul.
3. Overall, I am happy with VT 4
ROBERT G You can buy separate software for a Mac but it won't be from Oceanic. The included software is not compatible.
Shopper Hi,
I recently ordered this product and my dive buddy has the VT3. Does this product have the Buddy Pressure Check as well and will it work with the VT3?
Thanks!
Carlos N Depends on serial number call oceanic they will know
JUSTIN S It doesn't. It infringed on some copyrights of another brand and does not have the buddy check.
VINCE G The one I bought was VT4.0. It has the buddy pressure check.
From what I read online in different forums, my understanding is that in further versions of the software (4.1) Oceanic removed the buddy pressure check, possibly because it was not working that great - you had to be very close to your buddy tank to transmit buddy pressure.
I don't know if VT3 and VT4 are compatible.
This aside, I love my VT4. I bet you will too.
Hope this helps a little.
PHILLIP G As far as I know the 4.1 version removed the buddy check feature for trademark reasons. It does still support multiple transmitters so you should be able to monitor it still. The range is pretty limited though, maybe 3ft from transmitter so you'd have to swim over your buddy and hold your arm out to get a reading. I'm pretty sure the vt3 transmitters are compatible. I love my vt4 and have been completely satisfied with it.
EMMETT T yes it does. don't know if it will work with Vt3. Sorry
MARY B If the transmitter's are compatible then yes you can check their air pressure.
Shopper Does the transmitter have to be hooked up to a tank to check the battery? If I do a battery check with the transmitter just sitting next to my VT4.1 I don't get a signal.
MAXIMILIANO Z You can find the manual on oceanic website.
On page 57 it says:
TRANSMITTERS (TMTs)
- Battery and Pressure check
> every 2 seconds when awake
- Startup
> Pressure => 120 PIS (8 BAR)
> Battery => 2.75 volts
- Shutdown
> Pressure < 50 PSI (3.5 BAR)
So I assume it has to be connected to operate.
Page 20 explains optimal location in relation to the computer for best signal reception.
For security reasons always read the whole manual before use!!!
STEPHEN H Yes, the transmitter is off until it senses tank pressure.
RICHARD H The transmitter needs to be connected to a tank to be activated. I don't think there is a way to check the battery otherwise.
KEITH R Yes, the transmitter only turns on when, you reg is on your tank. Battery lasts long time, so change once a year to be safe.
MICHAEL M I do not know; my transmuter was connected to my regulator which was connected to my tank. The wrist computer did record the tank pressure correctly. FYI, be sure to set you wrist computer to the Serial Number on the TRANSMITTER.
SCOTT N Thought you meant the watch, yes, the others are correct. The transmitter only comes on when hooked up to a tank. This is not as much as an issue as it may sound. The battery is a common sized battery and can be replaced literally in 10 seconds. Just keep a spare or 2 in your dive bag and with a half turn of a dime, the battery can be swapped in seconds.
PATRICK K Yes, the transmitter is turned on only when it has air pressure.
SCOTT N I could be wrong as I am out of town, but I do not believe it does. I believe when you fire it up regardless if hooked to a tank or not, it gives you a battery reading.
NIKITA S It's only activated when connected to a tank and pressurized. Also, have to be in proximity to a tank as the transmitter has limited signal strength
JEREMY T Yes, the transmitter will automatically turn on when it senses a pressure change, most commonly when turning on a cylinder attached to the regulator with transmitter. If it doesn't connect when the pressure changes, it's likely a battery issue. If a battery change doesn't work, then check within the software to make sure the transmitter serial number is registered to the computer.
Stephen H How well does the compass work?
Shopper Dose anybody know if the VT4.1 computer will work with a old UWATEC ALADIN transmitter? I understand the VT4.1 has the ability to work with four different transmitters at once will this one work?
Frank L No, you would need an Oceanic transmitter. Not compatible with an Uwatec.
hernan93 h Hello I was reading about this computer and I found that the Oceanic web site offers the "New" Oceanic VT4.1 (oceanicworldwide), and the computer's name here is "Oceanic VT4 Hoseless....". I also can note that the description and features published here are (almost) the same I read on the oceanic web site, so I'm wondering if the offered computer here is the new 4.1 or is the older version 4.0?? If the computers are different, which are the main differences between them?? Thank you in advance. (I hope you're selling the 4.1 model....)
Frank L This is the new version 4.1. We are going to update the description.
Terril E I am kicking around the idea of purchasing my first hose-less air integrated computer. How is the connectivity with the transmitter? I hate diving with people whose computers are beeping constantly because they tilt their wrist the wrong way. Also, can this unit be used without the transmitter? Let's say I got on vacation and i am going to use rental gear to keep my luggage light but i want to bring my own computer. Do i have to bring the transmitter and put it on their reg or can i just use it like a non- air integrated computer?
Thanks.
MICHAEL B In my opinion, you should purchase this item.
Before I purchased this computer I was, and still am, using a Mares M1. I like the M1 a lot but it is complicated to use and is not supported in Windows 7 (the main reason I went to the VT4.0).
I had the VT4.0 on my wish list for a year and decided to make the change this fall.
I have not used the wireless system as yet simply because I want to get familiar with the basic system.
The watch can be used with or without the wireless transmitter, but the transmitter is installed very easily onto the !st stage regulator. You can do this yourself or ask the dive shop to do it for you. Just remember to retrieve it when you are done. You will need an understanding or !st stage regulator port configurations (high/low pressure) and the tools necessary to manipulate them (wrenches).
I haven't gotten as far as disabling the warning systems but creating a dive profile is very simple and you can give yourself a liberal enough profile that will not constantly alarm.
Please remember that the alarms are to alert you to situations that are beyond recommended standards.
I hope you purchase this item and are as happy with it as I am.
RUTH Y The connectivity of the VT4 is very good. One of the advantages of these units are that they link up automatically (after you enter the transmitter code the first time), unlike the Suunto D9 and Uwatec units which you have to pair each time. In tropical diving, I have never had them lose connection during a dive. In cold water diving, it happens occasionally, but always reconnects before the warning beep goes off. And yes, you can use the VT4 as a stand-alone non-air integrated computer on "gauge mode".
Terril E Thanks Ruth. Very helpful.
Shopper Hi, when it says it has the pc download kit, does it include the usb cable?
TIMOTHY H Yes it does. It also a very nice dive watch, I have used it for both air and Nitrox.
CASEY S Yes. It includes the USB cable and software.
Christopher E Can you switch units from imperial units (eg feet for depth, psi for pressure, etc) to metric (meters, atm/bar, respectively)?
KIRK A Yes, in the Set U (Utilities) Menu, you can select imperial or metric units. Please note that you may download the full instruction manual from Oceanic;s website. I did so before purchasing and it was very helpful.
JUSTIN P Yes you can.
From the set menu select UTILITIES.
Then select UNITS.
UNITS - allow you to switch from IMP/METRIC.
V S I'm trying to decide between the Oceanic VT 4.0 and the Suunto Vyper Air - both have virtually all the features I'm looking for, so I'm having a hard time deciding..would greatly appreciate any insights? thanks!
WITOLD B So far, VT4 has behaved well as a computer (I haven't used it as a compass yet). It is easy to read and navigating through the menu is very intuitive - huge improvement over the past generation of computers. It is a bit hard to hear audible signals under water, but on the other hand, I get annoyed hearing other divers' computers beeping from the distance.
Richard C I have a VT3 transmitter, can It be used with a VT4?
Nick G Do all the Oceanic hoseless dive computers use the same computer software to download to Windows based home computer systems? Do they all use the same software for the diver's log on a home computer?
Brett H Yes all oceanic computers that are downloadable use the same Oceanlog software though you may need to also install a different driver for the different computers, but you only need to do this once. Their software info page is here: http://www.oceanicworldwide.com/services_software.html .
Nick G Are you able to check your gas supply in PSI while still on the surface (without getting the computer wet)?
Nick G Are you able to check your gas supply in PSI while still on the surface (without getting the computer wet)?
Bill P Yes, you can.
Nick G Thanks again.
Please tell me if this computer ever loses signal from the transmitter at all while on a dive?
Thanks, Nick
