Brad C I want to mount this computer in a console I already have. Can I pop the computer out of the console it comes in? If so, what are its dimensions?

ERIN B No, it's a fixed configuration made to clip on a BC or other D-ring, not made for any type of console mount.

GEORGE J I don't think you can do that. I just hooked mine on my BC.

David L 1. Yes it starts automatically at 5 ft after 5 seconds. 2. I haven't tried the altitude feature but the manual says it adjusts to the altitude 1000 ft at a time as long as is not wet.

JUDD C The BUD will activate on contact with water (when water bridges between the button and the case). The BUD does automatically adjust for altitude (it will operate up to 14,000 ft).

Shopper Does this computer lock out for deco? I want a backup that will work for recreational as well bottom timer for tech.

ALEXANDER O I use it in recreation only with Suunto Viper. Everithing is fine, pretty comfortable. The indications always the same (safety stop, max. deth time, deco limits). I think not bad for back up comp. For tech diving (depends of deth)- I m not sure - the best way is to consult your instructor.

Shopper why is this considered a "Back Up" computer, can it be used for your main computer? What is it missing that a primary computer includes?

Brett H It is designed to be used as a backup because it is adjustable to read close to just about any dive computer that you may already own and it has a few less features than you will find on other computers. Mainly it does not have an audible alarm and it is not downloadable to your home pc. That said, could you dive with it as your only dive computer? yes you could.

Oceanic's new Veo offers Dual Algorithm technology, letting you choose the decompression algorithm that best suits your diving needs without compromising safety. Choose Pelagic DSAT for liberal recreational diving. The Pelagic DSAT Algorithm safely maximizes dive time for repetitive, multi-level recreational diving. This algorithm relies on the human Doppler studies used to develop PADI's Recreational Dive Planner (RDP), and has been the basis of Oceanic's and other manufacturer's computer algorithms for many years. Choose Pelagic Z+ for more conservative recreational diving. When applied to standard recreational diving, the Pelagic Z+ Algorithm basis increases the conservative factor of the Veo by 15-20 %.

Comments about Oceanic B.U.D Backup Dive Computer:
As an Instructor I don't always really need a computer, so I gave up my dedicated computer for my wife to use and decided to start beta testing an iphone based dive computer (scuba capsule). Anyway, I didn't want to lose a day of diving in the event of an issue with that solution so I opted for the BUD. It's similar to the other Oceanics I've used and with a nice easy to read display. I'm less than impressed with the "log" feature, you can only go back to your most recent dive, no ability to scroll through previous dives. It also has a tendancy to lose FO2 setting when diving EAN, so you must remember to set it just before entering the water, which is major pain since this is designed as a backup. It would be nice if you could set it once and forget it.

Still, overall for the price I'd buy it again since it serves it's purpose and I like having the piece of mind that if I have problems with my phone, my BUD's got my back.

This has saved me and my buddies many times when a computer dies on a dive. It is really easy to pass off, and it has both common algorithms so it can be used by almost anyone who has a recreational computer. Perfect device for the "Clip it and forget it" mentality, you won't even notice its there until you (or a buddy) needs it!
