Questions about this item:
manolis p Can I change gases while I am diving ?
SCOTT C I do not believe this is possible.
KARL W Yes, most definitely. The watch supports up to three different gases.
manolis p I have the ARIS MANTA. I am thinking in purchase a new dive computer with Hoseless wrist & transmiter techology, quality and fair price. Which one do you recommend: AERIS EPIC, OCEANIC ATOM 2, OCEANIC ATOM 3, SUUNTO D6.
Thank you
Mike B Is it compatible with a Mac computer?
GEORGE J I recently investigated this with Oceanic's tech support. You dont need a computer to use this device, however the electronic dive log that comes with it is NOT Mac compatible. Their recommendation is to install a windows operating system on your Mac to run the dive log program
BUDDIE B I do not know, mine leaked and quit after 2 dives.
ANTHONY G Yes. I use a Mac and the program is called Mac diver. It is great.
Shopper Does this handle Nitrox calcs?. thanks, Mike
ELENA A Hello Mike,
Yes the Atom 2.0 can perform Nitrox calculations for up to 3 different cylinders with different mixes at the same time. You can enter mixes from 21% all the way to 50%. Hope this helps.
-Eric
JOHN G Yes, this dive computer does Nitrox. Download the manual for free from ocianics web site, it shows you how.
JOHN R Yes, you can set it for either air or % of enriched air. You will also need to set the alarms for what partial pressure you want to stay under. Very easy to do..
AVIRAM L Before every dive you can change the setting (SETF) to include your air mix. You can also leave it at a set number if you prefer.
LEO I Of course. Up to EAN50 I believe.
Shopper Does It measures the pressure in the Bar or only PSI?
RAUL B I have used only the reading of the remaining air in the tank in PSI. I don't know if it also reads it in BAR.
SCOTT M Mine was set up for PSI, I am not sure if it measures in BAR. I sold mine because the display was to small and hard for me to read under water. It also takes an engineering degree to program the computer. I bought an Oceanic Data Mask instead because I am an avid underwater photographer, I love the Data Mask!!!! I also use the Oceanic Pro Plus II computer which is very easy to read and use underwater.
ANDREW K I believe that it measures both.
ANTHONY G PSI. Great computer. No problems.
Shopper Does this have a user-replacable battery or does it have to be sent in to a service center? Thanks
JANET D You can replace the battery yourself. Suggest you order a spare when you purchase the system, and always keep a spare in your dive bag.
TREVOR F Battery is user replaceable. Be very careful with the o-ring.
JERICHO L You can change it yourself. It's pretty easy to do.
PAUL T I have not used the device for a while now but I believe both batteries are user replaceable.
MIKE N It comes with the tool to change it, but my local dive center always insists on changing it with the rings or they insist the warranty will be voided. One issue I've had with this is it may go into free dive mode at the start of a dive, then you cannot reset it for scuba unless you remove the battery and reset. I had to do that on my last trip in the Galapagos Islands, one dive I had to dive 'blind', so it was cut short which sucks. They should allow a user override when that happens. Not bad otherwise, much better than my archaic Cochran Nemisis.
THOMAS W We have 2 of these, great computers. The batteries are easy to replace, you dont have to send them in. You can find batteries with a replacement o-ring at many dive shops.
ANTHONY G It comes with a small tool that is easy to use. The battery can be bought almost anywhere. Great watch. Highly recommend it.
TROY R User replaceable and very easy. Just gotta be careful she closing it back up. There is no positive means of closure like a screw.
LEO I Both the transmitter and the wrist computer have user replaceable batteries. The batteries are inexpensive ($5 for the set at Amazon as of August 2011 which was the last time I replaced them). Replacing them is straight forward as well.
Carlos Eduardo D Can I use it with a Dry suit? I am worried about the watchband size!! Thanks
GUILLERMO R Yes, you can. It should come with an extension, so you can use in cold or warm water.
LINDSEY H It comes with an extension band, but you can also attach it to a stretch cord and put it elsewhere on your bc. Great computer tho!
LINE P I have no idea, we don't do dry suit.
SHAWN D I've never used the unit with a dry suit, however the wrist strap appears to have ample or sufficient length left over with my wetsuit to allow use with a dry suit. Happy Diving!
ROB D The Atom 2 comes with an extension strap so you can wear it over your suit.
CURT F I WOULD THINK IT SHOULD WORK, IT CAME WITH AN EXTENSION FOR THE BAND. I THINK THIS COMPUTER IS GREAT!
Shopper Witch is better the v3t or atom 2.0?
ARTUR O I didn't have a change to use v3t but I cam tell you someting about Atom 2.0.
Prons:
- Long battery life
- ability to connect more than one sensor( i can control air of new students)
- durable
Cons:
- When left on direct sun has a tendency to fog and then sometimes switches off
- sometimes it is loosing a signal underwater so I have to lift my hand closer to sensor to get a reading.
Good luck.
BAYLY E the vt3 and atom 2.0 are pretty similar. the atom 2.0 is slightly smaller in form and is more like a watch. i've had mine for a few years. it can be comfortably worn as a watch. i have been very happy with the atom 2.0 and would have no reservations about recommending it. if you have not used a wireless computer before... you will never go back to a hose unit.
NATHAN B The VT3 is larger, so visability is easier underwater.
The Atom is watch size, and functions as a watch when your not diving. I wear it around when on vacation for that reason.
They are essentially the same computer otherwise. As for the software on my home computer(if you plan on downloading your dives) I use a program called Macdive because I have a Mac.
I like my Atom 2, but if you don't want a watch when not diving, then the VT3 may be more practical.
JENNIFER W I can not speak to the vt-3, but I purchased an atom 2 about 2 years ago and have used it on probably 50 dives since then. I have had no issues out of it. The display is compact and easy to use. I find the computer download highly detailed and gives you a good profile of depth and air usage. When I bought mine, I looked at the vt 3 also, but decided on the atom 2 based strictly on size. I am a female with a fairly small wrist, and did not want to be wearing around a hockey puck. The atom 2 is just like wearing a wristwatch. The vt 3 looks a little larger. Features of the two look almost identical.
JEFFREY E They are essentially the same product just sold under two different brands. The only difference is the aesthetics.
Shopper I am just getting into scuba diving and I was wondering if this would be a good first dive computer? I was wondering if it was easy to use even if you have gloves on and also if it will last for many dives? And lastly I would like to know if you are happy with this computer or if you recommend a different one?
Thanks,
Cody
THOMAS W Cody,
I have had the Aries Epic for a few years and love it. I bought the Atom for my wife, it is basicly the same computer. Small buttons but easy to use. I have had 5mm gloves on and used with no problem. It is worth the money. I have changed the battery in mine twice about once a year. Hope this helps you.
BENJAMIN Y This is a good entry computer, especially at the new low price. I paid over $850 4-5 years ago and I have dived about 40 dives with it. I works well. I love the wireless transmitter. I also have an integrated 2nd regulator. Between the two, I have the cleanest rig on the boat with the fewest dangling hoses, etc.
There is a personal decision when considering dive computers. This watch is small/compact, which is very cool, but some prefer a larger display and therefore go with a larger computer rather than a watch based technology like this one. It is preference really.
One thing I do not like is the download/interface software. It is a complete pain. Also, there is a detail setting for the dive log. If you set it way too high, the watch only stores about 6-8 dives on the watch. There is little need for that kind of detail (records every so many milliseconds), but FYI.
RAUL B This is a great dive computer. I have been using it since 2007 without any problems. It has more than a 100 dives.
It is very easy to use; just dedicate some time to read the instruction manual and get familiar with it.
I have never tried to operate the computer wearing gloves.
I am very happy with my computer, especially with the air integrated feature and also the easy way it has to replace the battery.
GEORGE W Yes I like it and it will last for many dives. If you are new to the sport you might want to consider a less expensive computer though.
Additionally, a conventional pressure guage might be a better choice initially. They are more reliable and easier to read. Some dive operators might even require you to use one.
The Atom 2 can be a bit complicated and the buttons are a bit small to work with gloves on. I have tobe careful to make sure everything is set correcty before diving
My Cressi Archimede was less expensive, easy to use and is a bit bigger. Easy to use with gloves.
Hope that helps ..... Still the Atom 2 is pretty cool !
DON W Not sure about this computer yet, we have only used it on one dive trip. On about the 10th dive it got some dirt or something in it and kept telling us to do a safety stop after we were out of the water. I think it would be a little much for a new diver. It has a ton of features that we may never use. You can get a decent starter computer for much cheaper.
LINDSEY H very easy to use once you remember what each button does. Computer goes straight into diving mode once its under 5' of water. Gloves dont have much affect. So far Ive put 700 dives on it with no problems except for 2 battery changes (which are easy). Love this computer... Such a great deal.
Shopper Does this computer have a digital compass?
CURT F no, not that I'm aware of
GUILLERMO R No, it does not.
KATHLEEN A it does not have a compass
COURT D No, it does not have a digital compass.
ROB D It does quite a lot, but no compass.
Shopper Does Atom 2.0 has a Freediving mode?
GUILLERMO R Yes, this computer has a Mode for Free Diving, It also has a counter for how many Free Dives are performed in a set.
KARL W Yes, the Atom 2.0 does have a free-diving mode (it is one of four modes).
JAMEY C Yes ...... It does have a Free Dive Mode...
ED G Sure does. It has Normal, Gauge, and Free Dive modes.
RICK Z Yes it does, although I have never used it for free diving. I haven't had any problems with the dive computer and have had it for approximately 5-6 years.
TOM B Yes. It does although I have never used it. I only used it for air and Nitrox. Hope this helps.
Eric W How does the transmitter send the signal? If RF, what frequency?
ELENA A I have no idea, all I know is that there is a way to connect the transmitter using a unit specific code which you then enter into the wrist computer to link it with a new or additional transmitter. As far as what frequency or type of signal, that I know nothing about. I hope this helps.
JOHN R Not sure about the frequency, but your transmitter should have a unique serial number on it that you enter into the watch. Suggest you check the Oceanic website. You will also need to enter in the transmitter id numbers for your buddy transmitters too. Hope you enjoy the watch. My dive buddy and I agree that once you figure out the basics it is the best dive computer/sports watch we have owned. :)
Marc Y Does this watch record & log average depth? Does that information download to the computer?
SAM H It does provide a depth profile of the whole dive and you need to load the driver from Oceanic website, it is pretty slick. I had to send my brand new transmitter since it was not working, they sent me a replacement that was beaten around the edges, I changed that as well.
The only compliant I have is the Technical manual, un organized and very hard to follow, still a great computer that I also use as a watch during my dive vacation
DAVID D It has the max depth listed in the log and the average depth is downloaded to the computer
THOMAS R Yes. The actual depth profile is stored and downloaded to the dive log software. The software then calcuates average depth and stores that information with other critical dive data.
KARL W If the watch does record/log average depth, it is not displayed on the computer. It may be displayed using Oceanic software, but I have not yet tried downloading data from the watch to a computer.
Nick G Are you able to check your gas supply in PSI while still on the surface (without getting the computer wet)?
RAUL B Hello Nick:
Yes it is possible to check it without getting the computer wet.
Just by pressing the upper left button for a second or two. The computer will switch to normal mode and show your gas supply in psi.
LINDSEY H Yup. Like a pressure gauge, you can check your air as soon as you turn on your air. P.s. This is a great computer. 600 dives and it hasn't failed me yet.
ANTHONY M Yes you can check your air supply without getting the computer wet!
I use mine everyday, this is a great watch for the price!
you wont have any regrets
Nick G Thank you Anthony for your quick response.
Hey while I have you on the line, could you tell me if your computer would lose signal from the transmitter at all while on a dive?
Thanks, Nick
ANTHONY M My computer has never lost signal yet while diving! But I also use a SPG for back up
WADE S You sure can i check it at the house before i go out. This is a sweet dive system. No complaints just minor annoyances.
Nick G Thank you Wade.
What are the minor annoyances you speak of?
Hey while I have you on the line, could you tell me if your computer would lose signal from the transmitter at all while on a dive?
Thanks, Nick
WADE S I have heard stories about the transmitter not working but i have never had a problem. I just keep it on the same side as my watch. Minor annoyances: It's been almost a year sense my last use so they are a little foggy:
-The watch is hard to navigate and almost requires the cheat sheet if you don use it enough
-It is too easy to change the gas mixture from to air to nitrox while getting into the water, and you are unable to put back into air once in the water.
+You can adjust the nitrox mixture down to air though so not that big of a deal.
-The software for it on the computer is pretty buggy my gear list always get's messed up but the dive stays fine on the computer and the watch
+ No Extra Hoses, my first stage has just two hoses my primary reg and my inflator/secondary reg. I have never ended a dive due to computer failure. The batter gives plenty of notice when going dead so i just keep a batt kit in my dive box.
+ This is really a great product, i really enjoy it
JOHN P yes you can check your psi in the boat, it says you can not use as a watch because it turns off but mine stays on.
Nick G Thank you John.
Hey while I have you on the line, could you tell me if your computer would lose signal from the transmitter at all while on a dive?
Thanks, Nick
JOHN P this is my wifes but she never noticed it. i have the oc1 and noticed it once in about 15 dives but did not take but about 20 seconds and it reconected
Nick G Hi John,
Did you have to move your computer closer to the transmitter in order to pick up the signal after it was lost?
Thanks, Nick
JOHN P no. it just picked it up
Nick G Hi John,
Thanks for the answer. But since I am predominantly a Cave Diver, I think I'll stay away from hoseless and get an air integrated computer with a hose.
TIMOTHY S Yes. The remote sensor needs to be on the tank and pressurized, and then put the Atom 2 into dive mode by holding down the Mode button for 2 seconds. Once in dive mode, the computer will seek out the remote sensor signal, and then display the tank's PSI.
Nick G Thank you Timothy. You made it very clear on how it works.
Please tell me if this computer ever loses signal from the transmitter at all while on a dive?
Thanks, Nick
TIMOTHY S The computer can occasionally lose connection with the transmitter depending on it's proximity, but in my experience it doesn't happen often, and always reconnects when I bring the computer back into view (which brings it closer to the transmitter). The user guide is very helpful on transmitter placement for best performance. It's also a good idea to always dive with a small analog gauge with depth and pressure for backup and safety.
DOUG S Absolutely. When the watch is in dive mode, the PSI is displayed once the transmitter link has been established. No need to get the watch wet which makes it easy to check your setup while still on dry land.
Nick G Thank you Doug.
Please tell me if this computer ever loses signal from the transmitter at all while on a dive?
Thanks, Nick
DOUG S I've had it happen only once while holding onto a line during a safety stop when my arm was extended. If the watch is too far from the transmitter (2-3 ft), it may lose the signal. But during the dive, my arm is close to my body and I haven't had any problems.
Nick G Thanks for all your help, Doug.
Nick
KATHLEEN A yes, you can. it took me a while to figure it out tho. check the manual (i don't have the manual or computer handy right now). there is a way to change the setting from wet to dry/normal.
Nick G Thank you Kathleen!
That was a quick response,
Nick
Shopper Can this be changed to meters and bar?
LeisurePro S Yes, the user can set the units on the Atom 2.0.
