LANCE R I'm over 50 now and strictly a recreational diver. I don't plan on becoming a deep dark techy. This is a inexpensive,simple, easy to read Nitrox computer with conservative algerithim and has a backlight. It will be my primary with my Aeris as backup.

JIM N No, it is not possible to set this computer to Celsius & then Feet. You select either Metric or Imperial which has C paired with Meters, Bar.

ISAAC R Yes. There's a audible alarm that's easy to hear underwater when the ascent rate exceeds 12 m/min (39 ft/min). The computer screen will also flash the word "STOP" until the ascent rate falls below 12 m/min.

KIRSTIN B I don't think so. I had a puck wrist computer before I purchased my gear. When I bought a Mares regulator, the package came with a puck in the console. So now I have one and a backup. Does that make me a motherpucker?

BETTY S I have never made a comparison. It does give you the ability to customize how conservative you want to be so you may be able to pick a setting that is very close to the dive table if you wanted.
KAREN H I'm sorry, I have no idea. It is fairly conservative on the second dive. I usually have to come up sooner on the second dive, dive a little shallower than the rest of the group, or do deco time but I really like the computer.

However, remember this assumes you are diving at that exact depth the whole time; it will adjust as your depth changes. I've had it a couple of years and never had any issues of not being able to stay as long as anyone else or the computer locking me out and I usually have longer dives than other divers.
SHAWN L It is not close to the tables. The computer uses a a system that adjusts constantly due to depth. Unlike a table that uses only the deepest depth for a dive. You can do multiple dive planning, but you can also just use the remaining deco time to see when you must be done for the day or the dive.
Shopper Does this have a deep stop function as well as the safety stop?
MARIA D Yes, both. Deep stop will kick in if you exceeded the safety limits.

Shopper Will the Mares Puck PC download software work on Windows 7 and above? I have couple of links that says it doesn't. Is it true? If it works, do not need to install any patches, updates, etc., or just use as is?
LELAND J It's the basic program from the Mares site, and while it's a bit confusing to get the program up and running, the essentials are there for a digital record of your dives. I have Windows 7 and have no problems.
Shopper is't possible to replace the battery by yourself?
PHILIP C I haven't replaced the battery yet, so I cannot say one way or the other. However, I believe that one of the selling points when I purchased mine was "simplicity," which included changing the battery.
MARIA D I bought this computer recently and haven't had to change the battery yet. The instructions do tell you that it might be best to let a dealer do it, but they do spell out how you can do it and It doesn't sound any more complicated than for any other computer if you have done it before.

KAREN H Yes it does. If you want to switch back and forth from air to nitrox, just use 21% "nitrox" when using air.
JOHN C yes, for the price it is worth it. On the surface the digital read out is a little difficult to see but underwater it was fine (25% larger).

Shopper How do you engage the backlight? If its by pressing the red button, how do you turn the backlight on without going through the menu options?

The backlight is enabled by holding the button for 4 seconds. Then I think the backlight illuminates any time you press the button until you hold it for 4 seconds again to disable it. Not 100% sure about that second part because its been a year since I dove last. I do like the Puck. It does everything I need.

CECELIA T Press and hold the button for 4 seconds and the light will come on. Once on, it will stay lit while you cycle through the menus. Otherwise, it will turn off after 4 seconds.
JAMES D Yes, hold the red button for a few seconds and the backlight comes on, but only for a few seconds (I'd think to just read the information and then go off to save battery time). No, it didn't make me scroll through the menu. Good luck!

MIKE D I bought mine specifically because it was a wrist model, but I think that it can be used in a console that is compatible with its size. You can contact the mfg and ask them, I did as to another question about mine. I bet if you ask Bret at Leisure Pro he can tell you. They all at LP have been very helpful and knowledgeable

JENNY H Yes. Keeps track of all dives and surface intervals. Good little computer for the bucks.
HARVEY C I don't free dive, but I just had a look at the manual (downloadable from the Mares website). You would use the "Bottom Time" mode for free diving, but that locks out the SCUBA modes for 24 hours. To enable the SCUBA modes the same day you must erase the nitrogen tissue memory. So it might be OK if you're only diving for one day, and if you do SCUBA first and free dive after. But I'm not recommending you do that. (In fact, I think all free divers are crazy).
DANIEL J , it will monitor your dive time and limits.including scent and descent rates. So as long as your within your decompression limits yes it will

CHARLES J It's not that sophisticated. It does make a great back up computer for basic open water scuba diving but I believe you'd need a more complex algorithm matrix but not sure if there's such a computer available.
Shopper Can this be used as a freediving computer?
SHAWN L Because the unit turns on at 4 feet and it details depth, and time and it holds a log book you should be able to use it to determine freedive depths and times. I do not think it was designed for freediving but it should give you the info you wish.
I have been very happy with my Puck. But it is only used for scuba with me. It is light weight, not too large and the one button system is great!

AVNI A It's a diving compuet, but it has a built in watch feature. But because of its huge size, you can't use it as a wrist watch.
CECELIA T Yes - from the main screen press the button 3 times to get to TIME. It will display time, date and temperature. It does not include daylight savings, so that will need to be adjusted for accordingly from the WATCHSET setting (the next one past TIME). If the computer is out of the water and automatically turns off, then simply press the button to turn it back on and get to the main screen.
WILFRED T Yes, it is capable of showing time in 12 hrs or 24 hrs. However it's a bit bulky for me to use it as a daily watch. It's a durable dive computer.
HARVEY C No. I'd like it if the Puck display could be set to stay on in "wristwatch" mode indefinitely. Although it's much bigger than a real wristwatch, I'd be tempted to wear it during the dive day.
If you want a real wristwatch + computer, I think you'll have to pay more and live with a more difficult user interface. The one-button interface on the Puck is really brilliant-- extremely easy to learn and use.
I just carry the Puck as a backup. Most of my diving is week-long liveaboard trips, and I really don't want to miss dives (or sacrifice safety) if something happens to my primary computer.

DAVID P It displays the time, but I wouldn't use it as a watch on dry land. It's way too big for my liking as a watch, and doesn't have any features you'd usually expect in a watch other than displaying the time (eg, no stopwatch). It is a superb dive computer, and I have been completely pleased with mine, but if you're looking for something that can double as a watch, I'd look elsewhere.

LEONARDO T You need to switch it on first by pressing its only button. If you are at the surface and don't press any buttons for 10 minutes, it will switch itself off. Once you are below 1.2m, the computer enters dive mode automatically. So you do need to make sure you turn it on before the dive, but then it figures out automatically when you actually started your dive. After a dive, the computer will remain on displaying the minimum recommended time before flying, so for repetitive dives you don't need to worry about turning it on again.

ANDREW F No it does not. The only way to transfer data is to a computer connected to the puck via a cable sold separately. As of now, this puck can not wireless transfer data.
STANLEY D There is no transmitter to your tank, if thats what you mean. That would be a much higher priced item. But if you want a simple dive computer it has been great. Does nitrox too. If you want the computer adapter it is extra. this allows you to down load the dive profiles on computer.....which is fun but the program is just so so. I'd buy it again for basic use, Im still using mine!
RITA R No, it doesn't. But it is a great basic computer with good display. I really like it. I use it as a back up computer for cave diving, transmitters don't work in caves anyway.
SCOTT B Pau, I purchased the Mares Puck Wrist Comp three years ago and a transmitter was not included. Assuming you are hoping to transfer your dive information from the Puck to your personal computer, you'll need a separate cable.
Note, the Puck is a great dive computer that's easy to use and the settings are adjustable, depending on the style of diving you enjoy (i.e, conservative or aggressive to enjoy more bottom time).

FRANK J Yes it can. You must access the SET DATA option, cycle through until you get to the C (Celsius) - M (Meter) display, then hold down the button until the display flashes. Once flashing you can click the button once more and it should toggle between the Imperial and Metric modes. I've had mine for only 6 months but i wish I'd have bough it earlier. mode. DANIEL Z Yes. Within the setup function...hit the big red button and scroll through the various menu's. At SetDive (I believe), hold it down for a couple of seconds and go into the SetDive submenu. You can set temperature to Celsius or Fahrenheit. You can also set depth to meters or feet.
STEVE D Not that I am aware of, but then never had to worry about it. I don't recall seeing anything in the manual about this.
HEATH M Yes, it reads in both F and C. You have to use the red select button to choose the setting you want. This computer is so easy to use and I don't use the computer link so don't waste your money on it.
robert m how do you shut it off?
TERRY F After a few minutes of no activity it shuts off to save the battery. When you are diving at depth (3ft. or more) it will stay on untill you surface. Hope this helped, happy diving!!

I did cycle through all my system functions and maybe there is a feature that does an automatic shutdown. I'll look tonight and send another reply. LARRY E The Mares puck shuts off automatically when not in use after a several minutes. What I like best about this feature is it seem that the Puck does not drain the batteries when it is off, but another computer I have I have to remove the battery.

SHAWN L It should shut off in just a few minutes of being on and out of the water. Touching the one button starts it up again. Never had a problem with mine and have even changed the battery once.
BRYAN T It will turn off on it's own after you quit diving and time passes. It does the AC flight countdown but this does not drain it much. I have had mine for almost two years and over a hundred dives an it is going strong.

SAMUEL W The unit automatically powers down after a period of inactivity so long as you are not underwater. The only way it will power down underwater is if the battery were to run out!
Thus, if you later review your dive logs you don't need to worry about powering it down. It will do so on its own.

KAREN H I bought the sealife 1200 and love it. I am technically challenged and I can use it. I have let "real" photographers use it and they love it and the pictures are great!. I bought the package with 1 strobe and it comes with a wide angle lens for $ 799. The wide angle really takes some nice pictures.

The Mission Puck 2 Console has a maximum depth display of 492' (150 meter), a memory capacity of 38 hours, runs on a user replaceable 3 Volt CR2450 lithium battery, power indicator, back lighting for low light conditions, has a plan mode display, can be used in both imperial or metric units, fresh or seawater settings, residual nitrogen reset, option to exclude audible alarms and uncontrolled ascents", has an ascent rate indicators and is altitude adjustable. The Puck also has a watch, date and temperature functions. The Puck has an optional USB interface for logging dives on your PC, SKU: MRSPCNMW PC Interface. The Puck knows that not all of us who dive are young and in peak condition, it address this with precautionary program settings that allow individual adjustment to more conservative dive profiles if needed. When you do multi-level, multiple dives during a single day or multiple dives over several days you can choose different setting levels in order to adjust your computer to a more conservative dive profile.
