Shopper which are better - these or the Cressi fins? I do a lot of warm h20 diving south of Florida
KEN K Thanks for your request I once was a Mares Dealer so I may be a little
partial. But the Avanti Quattro fin has, and is today the finest fin on the
market. I have used split fins, ratchet fins, turbo's and fins of all types
of fins in my 22 years of diving. With over 12,300 Dives and I've went
through many sets of fins. I can say with total confidence this is still
the finest fin in the industry. It is an all around piece of equipment that
works well in current and calm equally well.
Best of Diving to you and Merry Christmas

GINA K I can't say if the Cressis are better. I have the Mares Avanti Quattro and I love them! I've dived all over from then including Truk where the water was 84 degrees. I've used them in water that has no current and also water with lots of current. I don't think you can go wrong with the Avanti. My 2 cents.
CHRISTIAN A The Mares Avanti Quattro are a better overall fin than the cressi, however they are both good. The Mares are one of the fastest fins out there. Don't let a scuba instructor fool you into beleiving that split fins are faster. cressi also makes a good product, probably a bit cheaper than the Mares. I use my Mares fins for diving in cold water in New England, hundreds of dives a year. I will not be owning any other fins than the Mares brand.
JAN N I do not have any experience with the Cressi fins and my friends who use Cressi only use their extremely long free diving fins (some of them have both the Cressi and Quattro with closed heals). I have used the Mares Avanti Quattro with open and closed heals (Closed for free diving in Hawaii) for over 25 years and believe they are the best allround fins there is. I use them exclusively except for technical diving where I have to be able to swim backwards in tight quarters (they are too soft for the backward swiming techique). The quattro is amazingly comfortable and effective resulting in better propulsion and less chance of cramps during long dives (as a rebreather diver i frequently spend 3-4 hours swimming on one dive). Based on my own experience with fit, design and overall great quality I would recommend the Avanti Quattro to any diver except the extreme technical cave and wreck penetration diver for the above reasons. Good luck with your choices.
RUSSELL S I use these fins in warm and cold water. I travel all over and have been very happy with these fins. They have plenty of power wben you need it.
GERALD R These are great fins. Lots of power, move you around easily in current and makes maneuvering easy. I have not used the Cressi fins, but these are the ones my Dive Instructor uses, so I tried them and like them.
JEFFERY J F haven't used any cressi fins
the mares avanti quattro are big stiff powerful fins and take corresponding kicking energy; i like them and use them about equally often as my tusa x-pert zoom split fins (the mares and tusa fins kick differently -not surprising i suppose)
