STEPHEN B it is more comfortable than a 3 mm neoprene hood; it also dries quickly in the carribean. the disadvantage is that the skirt is short and pulls out of the jumpsuit; allowing leakage on my neck. I like in water 80 degrees or warmer, but below that I prefer a neoprene hood with longer skirt.
Bob L Sent this one back as the fit over the forehead was loose. The replacement was slightly better.
Bob L Seemed like a good idea and had good reviews. It worked alright but I was not that impressed. I used it with a beanie over it. I couldnt really tell any difference when I went with just the beanie.

Joe S LavaCore is an Oceanic brand. The sizing should be the same, but if you are finding a discrepancy in the size charts, definitely go with the chart from Lavacore.
Frank L This is the current Lavacore Hood. Our size chart we currently have posted is exactly the same as Lavacore's size chart for hoods.
WILLIAM J The best indicator of the correct size for yourself is the hat size. I wear a 7 1/4" hat and ordered a large, and it fit perfectly. I hope this helped you. This is a warm and easy wearing hood.
ED G I love this hood( the socks also). I thought that I needed the medium size based on the charts, but I exchanged for a large which was perfect. The opposite proved true for the socks. I dive both these products on a regular basis as a volunteer at the Denver aquarium and they have held up well.
ED S I was a bit confused as well, I wear a 7.25 to 7.50 hat, I bought both a large and an extra large, the large seemed to fit best. Hoe this fits helps...and by the way, it's a great hood.

ROBERT Z Sizing runs true to size. Hood fit well and does not pull on your face like most hoods do, and it does keep you warmer. I like Lavacore so much I just bought my wife a full Lavacore skin!
LISA L great hood for extra warmth. i have a small head and wear a women's size 2-4 and the small fit perfect.
ED G I found this to run a little small. In a tri lam hood before this I wore a large. In the Lava Core I am more comfortable in an extra large. Hope this helps.

My head circumference is about 22".
I am 5'7" and 140lbs
It stretches, feels snug and comfy.
Seems to be very durable.
Other sellers have these in cool colors and patterns.

Steve N How do you recommend to size this hood? Some hoods I wear a large and others a medium...kinda depends on the manufacturer. Any advice toward getting the right size?
JAMES C I went with the large hood, just becaasue I don't like the feeling of the hood squeezing my head. I just poked a couple of holes in the top to let the air that gets trapped in there on your decent.
GABRIEL D I use a size medium lavacore hood and it fits properly worn alone or under a neoprene hood. My hat size is 7 1/2 and my Pinnacle 5mm hood is also a medium. Lavacore will stretch so better a bit small than too large.
DENISE R Hi Steve. I bought a large and the diameter of my head just above my eyebrows is 22 inches and it fits comfortably outside of the water. I have not tried it in the water yet, but I didn't want something that was so tights that it constricted my neck or would be annoying. So, compare and contrast that measurement to your own. With LeisurePro's great and easy return policy, just order two or three sizes and try them on, return the ones that don't fit.
Another bit of advice, the coating on Lavacore deflects water. I wore my Lavacore inside a 3 mm shortie. At first I was cursing it because I could not descend in the water. I thought the problem was that it was NOT buoyancy neutral. Wrong. It is buoyancy neutral as it claims, but I had to pull the Lavacore back from my skin to allow the water to enter the suit and push out any trapped air. Then I had no problem descending. It is different from a traditional wetsuit, but I love it. Can't wait to go diving in it again.
Shopper How would the thickness of this hood be described or compared? For example,2 mm or 1.5 mm?
STEVE R I would say it is closer to a 1.5mm. It's thin and comfortable.
MARNIE A To me the lavacore products are equivalent to a 3-5mm. I get cold extremely quick. I use the lavacore socks, hood, long sleeve top and long pants. I am NEVER cold. The true plus of lavacore products are that you do not need to add more weight, as you will not become positively buoyant
JIM M I'd say somewhere in-between, maybe 2mm. I only say that because I have a 3/2 wetsuit and this hood is more similar in thickness to the 2mm parts of the suit like the arms. It's perfect for the warmer so. Cal. and Baja waters I dove in.
