Big fish need specialized equipment. When you are out for big game you can't expect to control a large fish by hanging onto your gun while the fish begins tosound after you have shot it. You can lose your gun and unless you can hold yourbreath for 10 or 15 minutes at a time well let's not go there!

The use of a float system is required for large animal spear fishing. Once you have shot the fish either your gun is attached to a surface float with a line, or the line on your guns reel will pay out until the reel is empty. At that point the line and float take over and you are no longer attached to the line, spear and float. All you need to do is surface and once the fish stops fighting you can pull in the float and your prize
