Questions about this item:
Shopper Anyone been successful in making this somewhat bouyant?
TERRY H I havnt tried, but was thinking along the lines of a shallow wing type structure on the muzzle. Or some type of buoyant material inside the hollow tubing. I knew what I was buying when I got it, and with some customizing, mine is already heavier than the OEM gun. But a little buoyancy towards the muzzle would be nice. I use a float and line in order to keep track of a dropped gun, and use a snap clip to my weight belt or torpedo float if I need both hands at the surface. I would also be intrested in what other users have to say.
Genarose C I have been trying for a while. I tried dowel rods, sealants, spray foam, Styrofoam but none of these seems to work because they made the gun to buoyant and makes the gun loose accuracy. Another big problem I found is that filling the barrel with stuff traps alot of water and will possibly damage the gun. This gun is great. Its really fast , powerful, and accurate. You can even upgrade it and put an open muzzle and use two bands then you can stone some bigger fish. I've given up on trying to make it float. I just stick my arm through the bands after the shot.
Chad K In the description and features it informs you can add an additional band. Where is the room to add another band or does one have to get a muzzle upgrade?
DERRIK H It can hold two 9/16 bands or one 5/8, the power will be about the same though.
MARCO A this gun comes with a 5/8 diameter sling, if you wanted an additional sling you would have to use 9/16 slings...
Chad K Thanks both for the input.
@Terry - Please post your thoughts after trying both bands
TERRY H I know it looks tight, but an identical JBL #424 band will slide in around the existing one. Just use plenty of dish soap for lubrication. Be sure not to try prying on the muzzle slots as it can break. The new band comes with simple instructions, but basically you start by inserting the wishbone into oneside of the muzzle and work it around until you can get the wishbone into the other side. Then its a matter of straightening it out to line up for the spearshaft. But I cant over emphasize the importance of dish soap for lube, or you will be fighting it. Going to try mine out with the two bands in about a week. I would like hearing from others who have done this also.
JAMEL B The muzzle end has room for 2 bands. I always use with both bands
Chad K So they're just stacked in there side by side? Is one band shorter?
JAMEL B Yes. They fit in the same spot just like any speargun i have had. There is no need for one band to be shorter. The catches on a spear are about 3 inches apart and the bands are always the same length. The blue bands are extra thick and fit snug in the muzzel end. 2 normal bands have more room, but that is of no importance. More important is the type of spear shaft you use forbthe type of fishing you will do. The larger shaft diameter with interchangable tips is something to think about. For bigger game you will want a "slip tip".
Shopper is any smaller ones? like 27"
RANDY K JBL makes a 27" gun in the carbine series.
Shopper What is the tru-glide rail?
LeisurePro S The tru-glide rail is a piece that sits on top of the gun in which the shaft rests. It really helps increase accuracy by ensuring that the shaft fires straight.
Shopper Does this gun come with tru-gide rail?
LeisurePro S Yes, all lightning models come with the tru-glide rail.
Shopper how long is the flopper (speartip) on this speargun? and also can a regular spearpoint be attached (what size too)?
LeisurePro S Flopper is 2 3/4". fixed point only.
Shopper is this a 2 or 1 piece shaft?
LeisurePro S This comes with a one piece shaft.
Shopper hi, can i get all the specs for this gun please?
LeisurePro S Overall length is 50" with a 1inch barrel. The 9/32" shaft is 48 inches and the reach (gun, shaft and shockline combined) is 21feet. The gun takes only one sling, a 424 and does not float.
Shopper what is the diference vs 24 regular explorer?
LeisurePro S The explorer 24 lightning comes with a single band and no spear tip. The regular explorer 24 comes with two bands (for more power) and comes with a spear tip attached. Both have the same reach (length of gun, shock line and shaft combined).

Whats in the box:Spear Gun, Shaft JBL748SB, One Slings JBL126, Shock Line JBL515L If you're looking for a spear gun that's big on performance while still leaving a little green in your wallet, the Explorer is perfect. Made with a corrosion resistant hardened 17-4 stainless steel trigger and shaft, JBL748SB shaft has a pointed tip and wing, cast aluminum, two-piece handle, and combined with a 1" (2.5 cm) aerospace alloy barrel for quick target acquisition and fatal results. Guns overall length is 50" (127 cm). Same parallel power source and low profile design make the Explorer perfect for cagy fish when the shot window is a split second. Lightning models feature Tru-Glide rail and 48" (122 cm) 9/32" (7.11 mm) shaft. These guns are all about speed and accuracy. To increase power and additional 5/8" O.D. (16 mm) JBL424 sling can be added. The sling is a unique latex formulation and dip manufacturing process that delivers radical modulus strength. The power curve increases as bands are stretched for optimum performance. Special anti-oxidants help protect against harmful U.V. rays, prolonging sling life. The slings wishbone is 302 stainless wires that provide superior strength and durability. Gun is equipped with the JBL515L Shock Line. Sometimes we miss or we shoot a large fish and the recoil can pull the gun out of your grip, which ever the shock line will keep you in control. Guns range is 21' (6.4 meters). At the end of the day it's not the flash, but the fish count that really matters, and nothing stacks them up like the Explorer. Click below for more information
