Questions about this item:
YANG A Does i need to buy anothrer cam bands to set up a full functional system?
i have read the message:"New single wings with cam slots ", Does that means I do not need to buy cam bands?
GARY K You will need to purchase two cam bands. I recommend the stainless steel buckle as they are indestructible.
VADIM S Hi Yang,
You will need two cam bands. I bought two XS Scuba Standard Cam Bands. The worked well.
Regards,
Vadim
RODNEY C This is jus a wing. It does not come with cam bands. You will need a set in order to attache a tank. It does not require special cam bands so any make/model for a single tank will do.
ASHLEY M Yes, you need to buy cam bands. I bought 2 following the photo with the wing appearing to have 2 slots, however after attaching the wing to the backplate, it only allows room to thread 1 cam band through the top slot.
Also, there are no bolts that come with either wing or backplate to physically attach the 2 together. "Single tank adapter" bolts are necessary to screw the 2 pieces together for a secure fit.
Joe S Cam bands do not come with this. they are separate.
GEOFFREY S I bought the HTS II harness Tech. System which came with 2 cam bands. The wing attached to the harness via the slots on the wing. Thus, the wing does not come with cam bands, the harness did.
SETH W You need to buy cam bands (2) - this is just the wing. You also need a backplate and harness obviously.
JESPER S You WILL need to buy cambands, they do not ship with the wing. I believe this is true for most, if not all, wings.
ANDREW G You still need cam bands but if you are using the elite 2 harness you have to do the waist band backwards to use the bottom one its such a pain to redo the harness I just use the top cam
GREG G Nice wing but it is just the wing. You will need to purchase cam bands and depending on your setup you may also need a single tank adapter. You will be happy with the wing...my third one.
Shopper Will this wing work with a Dive Rite Transpac?
Joe S Yes as long as the transpac you are using has 11" center holes for a backplate and harness. I believe it does.
BILAL ABBAS Z I'm sorry I haven't used a Transpac so I can't comment on it. But i'm guessing if the holes fit then it should, don't see any reason why not. Hope it helps.
Willis T Does the wing come with "Wing bolt and nuts" to secure it to the back plate or are they optional?
Willis
Willis T Hello Every one! THANK YOU for all you advise. I have purchase this S Wing 25lbs. I am very satisfied with it. Once again thank you everyone :-)
Willis
VP437351 T With these wings you do not need nuts and bolts. When you secure the wing and plate to a tank with two cambands, the whole rigg is very secure and stable, even though thos setup does not require an STA.
SEAN C No - does not come with any "nuts and bolts"
Frank L They do not come with the wing nut. Usually the bands would come with those, or your single tank adapter.
Shopper Good morning
Do I need a back plate to secure it to the Hollis solo harness?
Thanking everyone in advance
Willis
Willis T Thank you for your answers They are very helpful.
RODNEY C The Hollis solo harness will not work standalone. It will need to be threaded through a back plate, so no, it won't work. You'll need to have the back plate, the solo harness threaded through, and then attach the wing using book screws first and then finally securing with cam bands that thread through the wing and also through the back plate. The one thing you won't need in that setup is a single tank adapter. It's not necessary but it's nice to have as it set the tank a bit further from your back. I dive the very same system as described above and it works well.
CHARLIE L You're gonna need a backplate or something like that to mount it on - unless you get a transpac-style "backpack" harness and mount it on that. Its just a wing, so you need a complete harness system and cam bands to complete the setup.
KONSTANTIN V Good day.
I dont think that wings can be used without backplate.
I use this wing with dive rite backplate and dive rite harness.
BETH K Yes, you will need a back plate and some sort of harness as well.
DAVID C Hi Willis,
Yes you definitely need a back plate. You cannot use the harness with the wing without a backplate.
Best regards,
Angie
marc f Does the the s25 fit a a HP 100 steel tank and does it have enough lift for me. Drysuit with usually about 16 pounds of weight?
ANDREW F I have dived with steel HP80s and AL80s in a 3 mm wetsuit with single tank adapter, no weights and extra equipment. Am 63 kg.
My guess is you would probably want to err on the side of caution and go for the S40. That may be over kill, but I can't tell for certain.
BILAL ABBAS Z I use the S38 with a HP 100 steel tank with 3mm wetsuit for tropical water with 8 pounds of weight and it gives me just the right lift. I have a feeling that the S25 might be ok with the drysuit because of its own lift. Can't say the same for tropical waters.
KARLTON K The Hollis S25 wing has been perfect for me. I have used it in all conditions from a rashguard to a drysuit in very cold water with hp steel 100s and have found that it has plenty of lift for me. Basically it is capable of floating any tank on a stainless steel backplate meaning i can take it off in the water and not worry about it sinking. Its fairly long and skinny so I would not probably use it with any tanks shorter than a hp100 or lp 85.
MOHAMMED K A Greetings,
I believe it would fit that tank size without problems, about the lift capacity being enough I am not sure since I dive warm waters with little weight (if I had to guess I'd say yes enough), however I suggest you get your answer from the source: Mr. Nick Hollis himself by emailing him at nhollis(AT)hollisgear(DOT)com .
Happy diving and be safe.
CHARLIE L I would add that the Abyss is pretty light (to me) and very compact. Its mostly metal. Youll want to change the mouthpeice to a long bite or something more ergonomic (much better for me, anyway) -- then youve got a reg that just won't quit and will be incomparably comfortable.
CHARLIE L Fit- absolutely (youll need cam bands though) Lift - I'd say, almost definitely, yes. Ive been diving this bladder spearfishing with a stainless steel backplate (that adds 6 lbs) and no wet suit, no dry suit (just a rash guard) with a single steel 100 and it was fine. So, with that set up, I would be a lot more negatively bouyant than your set up would be - especially if you lost the 16lb weights. A friend of mine borrowed it for some cavern diving last weekend, and dove a 7mm wet suit, transpac, a steel 72 and about 12lbs of weight and she had no trouble either.
With a dry suit, and possibly no extra weights, I cant imagine this thing would have any trouble at all floating a steel 100. Hollis does make a 38lb wing, but to me thats overkill- it would be just 7 lbs less than my 45lb wing i use for double steel 100s with deco bottles and a can light.
Hope that gives some perspective. The only time ive ever had trouble with a 25# bladder (an old dive rite) was with a steel 120 on my back, 2 40cf aluminum deco bottles, a can light, reels, all on a little tranpac and i had just a 3mm wetsuit. I was weighted like a lead wrecking ball. And event that rig was okay until compression from depth became a factor.
But otherwise, this bladder is great -- its fantastic for bouyancy control and stability... by far the best ive ever used.
CHARLIE L No worries, glad i could help and do a bit of "gear talk". I got the Higland cam bands to go with it. I would NOT recommend those - I would go with something much simpler like the XS ones, or the old dive rite cam bands.
marc f I have another question. Are a second stage and octo the same quality? Would the Mares abyss 22 second stage be the exact same thing as the abyss 22 octo?
CHARLIE L Funny you ask. I actually dive with a Mares abyss - i think its a 22- octopus as my primary reg on a 7ft hose (I have developed a frankenstein rig.) Its a killer reg! Dunno if there is a difference with the normal primary, besides mine has the yellow purge button and the regular Abyss has a black one. After 2 years of constant use and rather abusive treatment (diving in the south pacific) it hasnt had any problems (even without any service, which, i know, is very bad). It has developed a bit of a "whistle" lately so im finally gonna get it checked out, but it still works great if a bit noisy.
Its not an adjustable reg, no pre-dive mode or venturi switch or anything fancy, but it is one rugged beast of a reg. For over a year it survived weekly saltwater dives, coral sand, and less than ideal storage conditions with no trouble whatsoever.
Sounds like we may have similar rigs!
marc f OK so it's not crazy. I have the proton ice extreme reg right now. I was thinking of making my proton ice extreme 2nd stage my octo and then buying the abyss extreme octopus then putting a long hose on and using it as my primary.
CHARLIE L Not crazy in my opinion at all. My abyss octo is rugged, simple, small, ultra comfortable, and RELIABLE - so i use it as a primary. I bought it on a whim as a back up when i was overseas and couldnt get my scubpro regs serviced. Ended up liking it so much it became my primary reg. It's great in currents as well because of the purge valve set up - does not free flow very easily, and just the feel of the reg - it feels so much more secure than any other reg. Ive done deco and overhead diving with it - it's got my 100% confidence.
Shopper what is the measurement (length width and height) of the wing?is this great for travel?
Vuja V Beautifully compact and just great for travel.
ANDREW Y S25: 17-inch X 25-inch. Yes, it is a great travel wing.
MARCIN O Hi,
The measurement of the empty wing:
Lenght: 68 cm
Width: 48 cm
Height: 5 cm (inflator)
I bought it mostly for travel and it's great !
ANDREW C Not sure exactly on measurement but I have the 25# wing and it's VERY compact and excellent for travel with a backplate.
Shopper Does this wing come with cam bands [tank band]?
YANG A Seems I Must buy two "Hollis Delrin Cam Band". do that ok?
YANG A That means,i must buy two cam band for the system?
LeisurePro S Cam band are not included.
