Comments about Bare Elastek Coldwater 7 mm Hood:

Frequent NC coast wreck diver. First dive with hood in early March. Temp was 52 on 60' dive. Head was very comfortable. Did not really notice cold (except my hands which were like ice cubes!) Very pleased with hood. Fit was comfortable. Would love recommendaiton on similar quality gloves.

Pros:
- The elastic material is great. This hood is very easy to don/doff if you have short hair like myself.
- I like the 3mm around the neck area. It makes my head/neck feel less rigid than in a solid 5mm hood. The 7mm on the skull kept me warm.
- I've had problems in the past with my hood popping out of the neck of my wetsuit. No problem here, the bib is plenty long.

Cons:
- Because the hood is partially 3mm, it does have its limitations. I dove to 100ft in 50 degree water and was comfortable, but on the ascent dives the my neck was beginning to noticeably chill a bit. However, this hood will do wonderfully for the SoCal water I'll be diving in the winter months. If you're routinely diving in water 50 or lower, this is not the hood for you.

Bottom Line:
I picked this up at a LDS sale for the winter water here in SoCal. For this purpose it's great. It fits well, stays warm, and Bare makes reliable stuff. If you're diving northern waters, I'd get something more robust.

The Elastek made it very stretchable, but I felt like my hair was getting pulled out as I was slipping it onto my head. I also didn't like the bibb. Too much material to tuck in to my wetsuit. I returned the product and exchanged it for the zippered kind.
