Questions about this item:
Shopper Why Did You Choose This?
CHRISTOPHER A Who wants to deal with buckling and unbuckling regular straps? These work great, however they are not as snug fitting as the stock straps that came with my fins.
DANIEL B. S Had a friend who had a pair and I used his, liked them, purchased me a pair July 2007 and still using them
JAMES C Best price! Quick & easy to put on & off fins!
Rafi K Is this straps fits my Mares Avanti Quatro perfectly?
(I read that it does not fit the Vollo....is this true?)
Thanks
CHRISTOPHER S I liked the XS scuba.spring straps. Leisure Pro sells them. I use them on the Mares Avanti Quatro for my cave diving. They Work great. I returned the Blue Reefs because of the plastic heel guard. I'v been diving 12 years. The Advanti Quatro are open heel fins and the Volo are closed heel fins. So there are no straps on the closed heel fins.
Rafi K H? Christopher and thanks for answering
I ended up buying the
EZ Spring Fin Strap - Recreational Diver
Do you know if ther are good for my Mares Avanti Quatro?
THanks
CHRISTOPHER A That is not true. These will fit the Mares Volo fins and the Mares Volo Power fin
VITALIY S I have this straps for 3 years now and they work perfect, I use them with mares vollo, I put rubber rings that I made once I put the straps on find just for extra security,
Shopper Will these straps fit Oceanic Viper fins?
Rafi K Which type of fins? Avanti ?
NATHAN B Sorry, I don't own Oceanic Viper fins, so I couldn't tell you. You might check with a dive shop.
JEFF S great.... makes it easy... i dive at a local aqaurium and you don't have the space to spread out like on a boat ( small cat walks).. makes it extremely easy and fast... had them for two years.. used them 40 times.. still work great. no rust.. great investmenet..
MICHELE H Leisure pro should be able to answer the question, I put them on Mares fins
Brian N Will these work w/ the Atomic Aquatics Split Fins?
MARK B Great Things
I really like the Spring Strap. The are a lot easier to take on and off on the dive boat or in the water.
Bad Things
The springs broke after about 18 months and only about 10 dives. I tried to fix the springs but you can't. The metal in them is too brittle.
I bought another pair though just because they are so much easier to get on and off.
Good luck with your decision!
L W Please answer to this question instead of the ones below. LP login seem to have failed me.
Followup on my question the type of stainless steel. Can somebody hold a magnet onto the springs to find out if it sticks to it?
A spring that sticks to magnet will rust. Maybe they used different type of stainless steel throught its mfg period?
LOUIS W I can't say if they are made of something other than stainless steel. I can tell you that I've been diving these spring straps for about 4 years in both salt and fresh water and i have not seen any signs of rust.
You are correct about different alloys of stainless beign more or less prone to rust.
CATHY S I was very happy with the Steel Pro Fin Spring Strap. They made it very easy to get my fins on and off especially during large waves coming in when you have to get back on a boat or any other difficult area. I'm a 120lb woman so for us girls they were nice!!
JORDAN G A magnet does not attract to or stick to the springs, buckles or the fastner hardware. However after a season of heavy diving >50 dives the springs did show rust and did fail after a 10-12 months of heavy use. The price is right so I bought another set and am now spraying them with silicone after they dry from the fresh water rinse. Also use garden hose washers to secure the buckles to the post on the fin.
L W Thanks. I guess it might be made of 3XX stainless steel, but not top tier ones that might be used for piping that carries corrosive materials.
KEN P A magnet does not stick to the springs.
They also have not showed any sign of rusting, I have 2 sets and they seldom get rinsed after use.
EUGENE S Magnet will stick to any steel. Makes no difference if it's stainless or not.
L W Stainless steel with sufficient nickel content are much more corrosion resistant. It also causes the steel to becomes austenitic, thus having minimal interaction to magnets.
JAMES C I purchased these last year and used them almost every weekend and noticed no rust. I haven't held a magnet to them though but for this price they work great for me!
SHARIF E The only thing that i can tell you is to not buy these. I dove with them perhaps 20 times and I was down 80 feet and it broke. I had to MacGyver something 80 feet down in order to not lose my fin and in order to not have to swim with one fin.
Try another spring strap
ALLAN K my fins are in storage, but i don't have any rust on mine. I saw them yesterday.
Shopper Please answer to this question instead of the one below. That one won't notify me.
Followup on my question the type of stainless steel. Can somebody hold a magnet onto the springs to find out if it sticks to it?
A spring that sticks to magnet will rust. Maybe they used different type of stainless steel throught its mfg period?
CHRISTOPHER A Just tested the straps. The spring is magnetic. The bracket that attaches the spring to the fin is not. I have dove about 30+ dives fith mine. All but 2 of those in fresh water. No rust or deterioration can be seen, including under the moulded rubber parts. I have had no problems with these straps nor has my dive buddy who also purchased them. Good luck and happy diving!
MICHAEL P I'm not home with my straps at the moment, but the magnet test is not always obvious. All stainless is not 100% non-magnetic. The type of stainless used for fasteners (nut/bolts) for instance, will stick weakly to a magnet. It's also the case that stainless steel is not rustproof, just rust-resistant especially when exposed to air. I believe the slightly magnetic tool steels and springs probably fit in that category, are slightly less rust-resistant than the softer stainless alloys. I use the straps and they tarnish slightly, but don't rust at all in the manner of carbon steel.
CHRIS W Mine rusted and broke
CHUCK H When holding a magnet to the spring it would not 'stick'. The stainless steel is not magnetic.
Spring straps are the way to go for easy and speedy putting on and taking off fins...especially when doing boat dives. They stay in place, and keep the foot snug and secure. They're one of favored pieces of dive equipment...wouldn't leave home without them.
Shopper Followup on my question the type of stainless steel. Can somebody hold a magnet onto the springs to find out if it sticks to it?
A spring that sticks to magnet will rust.
MATT M I just put a magnet on mine and it does not have enough pull to actually stick but it does pull toward them a little. I have had mine for over a year and have used them in salt and fresh water and still do not have any rust on them. I would recommend these straps.
DANIEL B. S I put a magnet to my springs and it didn't stick. I purchased my straps in July 2007, now it's March 2012 and I have no rust on my Blue Reef Sainless steel Pro Fin spring straps. To give you a bit of history, since I purchased these I have average 27 dives a year, 1/3 being salt water, 2/3 fresh water, like I said, I have no rust. I like them as it does make it easir to get fins on and off.
STEPHEN B never tried a magnet. I have used this type of spring straps in both fresh and salt water, rubbing against the rocks in different caves, for many years; no rust yet.
CHRIS L I tried this and the magnet does NOT stick. The magnetic effect is not 100% eliminated, but would best be described as "ever so slightly". No rust issues at all with these springs.
MICHAEL S I have used these fin straps for several years and don't have a bit of rust or discoloration on them. They have been used exclusively in salt water. They are stainless steel but a magnet does not stick to them. Not certain what that has to do with their toughness.
L W are these 3xx or 4xx stainless? Looks like lots of talk about it rusting.
GILBERT M I don't know anythin about rusting? My springs are easy to grab even with my gloves on. I rinse well when we are finished and no rust. I would recommend this item to you.
DAN S I have not had any rust issues, but I do rinse my gear after every dive trip.
JIM W I would not buy these again. The springs rusted and the last time I used them the spring just snapped in half. Left me in the middle of a dive with my fin strap hanging. Also, the connector would not stay snug on my fin. I had to wrap duct tape around the post to keep the strap fastened on.
DARREN L I've got about 400 dives on these and haven't seen a bit or rust. These are fantastic!
JOHN W I tend to dry my equipment when I finish diving and I store it in a dry location. I will say that they do seem to be a tight fit and not a comfortable as I thought they would be.
JOHN R I have several sets of these in my family and do not have a rusting issue. As with any stainless product it needs to be rinsed after use in salt water. I do not rinse after every dive but at the end of the day i rinse and have no signs of rust. For 19.95 these are a bargain.
snuggles L Am I correct in assuming that the price is for the pair?
GILBERT M Yes, the straps are sturdy and easy to grab. I would recommend these spring straps to others.
BRUCE P Yes, The amount is for both of the straps, these work well.
F. ALLAN V The price was for a pair...
Shopper Will these fit scubrapro jet fins? If not, do you have universal spring straps for them? I?d rather not spend 70 bucks on that...
Dawnya H Will these fit atomic aquatic fins?
GUY F Yes these straps fit atomic aquatic fins but they need a garden hose washer around the post on the fin after the strap has been installed. This keeps the strap from ever slipping off of the fin when not on your foot. I have been using mine for several years and am very happy with them. I ordered several different brands before keeping the Blue Reefs.
MICHELE H I don't know, but I had to return mine as they did not fir on my Mares Volo's
MARK B These fit. I like them. Unfortunately the spring broke on one fin after very little use. Springs are brittle and rusted. I was told to replace these with stainless steel springs.
Shopper Will these fit on Apollo Biofins?
LeisurePro S Yes, the blue reef straps will fit the Apollo bio fins.
Shopper Will these fit Cressi Frog's fins?
LeisurePro S Yes, these should fit the Frog fins.
Shopper Will these fit tusa xpert zoom fins?
LeisurePro S Check out these fins straps for the best fit.
Shopper Will the spring fin straps fit the Vyper series of fins?
LeisurePro S I would check out XSSFUSS, which is a pair of universal spring straps that come with several clip options to fit your specific fin.
Shopper Will these could I fit to my Scubapro Twin Jet fins?
LeisurePro S Check out product AQUEZT, which are spring straps made just for the Twin Jet fins.
Shopper may I use them with my Mares Quattro fins ?
Shopper How exactly do I measure to get a prpoer fit? From the tip of the male clips, perhaps behind the clips? Snug, tight, just touching the heal?
LeisurePro S From the center of the fin pin around your heal to the other side pin center.
