Questions about this item:
TRAVIS A I was wondering how well this mask would do in black water. 90% of my diving is done in 0 visibility. My type of diving is very rough on equipment and was wondering if it would hold up?
DAVID H If you are diving "black water" , this is exactly what you need. You can see your dive pressure, depth, and dive profile inside the mask. You will not have to struggle to keep tabs on the important stuff.
The only things it can not do is multiple gas diving profiles and it does not have a compass in the read out. When those functions come available, that will be the TOTAL MASK.
JOSEPH S I regularly night dive and the display is very visible under the darkest of conditions. You can set the light level in the mask.
WILLIAM M I think that it would be great in "0" vis, I've used mine a couple of times and it was nice to be able to read depth and psi
KEVIN C P I'm not sure about this mask but the oceanic HUD mask is very sturdy and I've been told is used by the Navy Seals.
ERIC F The Oceanic Datamask (Aeris CompuMask is just rebranded Oceanic product) was designed specifically for Navy SEALs. I imagine that the military had stringent durability requirements.
The construction is quite solid. The only thing I've noticed are that the tiny screws around the electronics tend to rust a little bit. I've tried to be careful with my mask but have accidentally dropped it on a sidewalk, and there's still not a mark on it.
The brightness of the HUD is adjustable. At night I use the lowest setting and in the day I use the highest. At the lowest setting, it does not interfere with my vision, although if you want to see phosporescent plankton, you might have to turn off the display- it's one button press to turn the display on or off.
BRANDON G It's pretty tough. I've dropped it from five feet on the dive deck with little more than a scratch. The display is pretty bright... so you'll probably want to turn the turn the brightness down for zero viz diving.
JOSEPH K I think it would hold up fine. The electroniocs are well sealed, and water is water regardless of the clarity,so it will be just like any other mask.
DENNIS D I?ve used this mask for the last three years and recently got one for my wife. I especially enjoy the mask on night dives and the dives where visibly was less than 6?. The dive data was displayed clearly before my eyes.
JEHIEL B Hi Travis:
This kind of equipment was designed specifically for low visibility environments. You should be able to see all your computer readings perfectly no matter the environment outside your mask. You can also adjust the brightness to your liking.
However, if you feel the mask is going to get bumped from time to time; then this is not the equipment for you. The mask is rather a delicate item and it is not roughed at all. To give you an example: I dropped mine from about 3.5 feet to the floor of a diving boat, and that was the end of it. I had to get a replacement mask.
Hope the above answers your question.
Khody A Someone complained, in a review, that the HUD can't be shut off temporarily at nighttime to observe bio luminescent activity. To compensate, with your flashlight obviously off, you have to squint your right eye shut. Is this true or is there a setting being missed by the user? Also, does the company provide firmware upgrades to resolve such short comings?
Since this is the same mask, made by the same manufacturer, do they use the same silicon skirts? Do they use they same PC software? Does the mini LCD screen show the information in the same format?
ERIC F Turning the HUD on or off requires only one button press. Oceanic thought of this and built it into the mask.
ERIC S J Haven't tried shutting off the HUD, but from what I know of the mask (I have it and love it), your concern would be valid (i.e. there's no shutoff). I haven't held the two masks together side by side, but as far as I could tell when I bought the Aeris CompuMask, it's identical to the Oceanic Datamask. I liked the PC software that came with it.
ANDRE B get into settings from the ox software. the brightness can be adjusted to make night dives better. just as with a gps bottom recorder on a boat it needs to be decreased
ROSS C Khody A,
I can attest to the fact that the screen can indeed be turned off. I recently did this during a night dive. You just hit the side button and it is off so it is really easy.
I cannot speak to the software as I have a Mac and the software isn't written for it, but it is identical to the Oceanic version. This is a great mask! Used it on a live aboard and it worked fantastically.
TED H You can adjust the brightness of the HUD display so just turn it down all the way or off. I have owned both the Aeris and Oceanic, everything looks identical. I haven't been diving with the Aeris yet though nor have I checked the software so I can't answer that one.
Porschelyne M been hearing complaints of issues are those verified or just people posting bad reviews????
DOUGLAS H The mask is everything it is advertised. My only issue is the slightly added weight. For night diving it excels. I have owned it for 2 years and am completely satisfied.
RONALD P I bought my Oceanic DataMask - the same product as Oceanic and Aeris are the same company and it is the identical mask - in November, 2009. Bottomline: I absolutely love it and can't imagine diving without it.
I just returned from the Cayman Aggressor live-aboard trip where I did 27 dives in 5 and a half days. As always it worked flawlessly. My wife and I leave this Friday for a week in Roatan and then in September I will be on the Turks & Caicos Aggressor for another week of diving.
Here's what I like about it. Air-integrated, I always know my air time remaining at a hands-free glance. Depth always visible, I always know my depth on a wall dive, blue water dive, or safety stop hands-free at a glance. Backlit, I always have all my critical information available on a night dive, hands-free, without the use of my dive light.
I fashion myself as an underwater photographer and usually have both hands on my camera, lights, etc. I always have my critical information available. I have heard that it is heavy - underwater I don't notice it at all. I have heard that the back light is distracting - 1) you can, with one push of a button, turn it on and off as you want, and 2) the display is in your lower right lens and I find that I have to make a point of looking at it to see it. I have heard that you lose valuable viewing area - I have never noticed a difference, or I got used to it almost immediately. I heard that it is difficult to see when you're on the surface and setting your nitrox, etc. - I have found that by just placing my hand over the right side of the mask when on the boat takes care of that minor issue. I have heard complaints in general about wireless air-integrated computers having connection issues - since the transmitter on the mask is only about a foot away from the transmitter on the first stage, I have NEVER, EVER had any problems at all.
To me the most important factor is FIT, just make sure whatever mask you get fits properly.

Shopper Really want an air intergated computer is this a good choice for using nitrox 32
Anyone not liking this.. wrist computers would be nice but have fear of loosing it. Or it getting beat up.. Not really liking have a house drag in the sand. With hose mounted computers on beach dives... Your comments are wanted please?
ERIC F If you're worried about losing a wrist computer, you will probably still worry about the DataMask, as it's more expensive than most computers and it's one of your smaller pieces of gear- it could "walk away" if you don't keep an eye on it. On dive boats, I don't leave the mask on deck, I carry it with me, and on breaks between shore dives I keep it in sight or with me.
WAYNE P It is configurable for Nitrox up to 40%. Just remember that after a period of time (check the manual) it will revert back to AIR as a safety precaution.
Porschelyne M Does air pressure read on land?
DAVID H Once the tank valve is opened and you press the power button on the mask, the computer goes through a self check and will read the pressure. It really is a good mask for diving in limited light/visiablity. The only things that could make it better is a compass read out and if you could use it for tech diving (multiple gases). But for the non tech diving, it is the king!
BROOKE R Yes as long as the tank is turned on it will show you all the info.
Porschelyne M Thanks are you happy with the mask
BROOKE R I love the mask, it's my second one. Yes it costs too much but I feel like I get extra dice time as I can continue to look around as I surface instead of looking at my wrist computer. I have never been a fan of a black mask but I love having the info always right there.
The mistake I made on the first one I had was I should have services it sooner the screws on the battery cover got a little rusty but I ignored it and the battery flooded and destroyed the computer, OOPS!
I love it enough to buy another
Go for it ! It's only money! Lol.
Bbr
Porschelyne M I don't think people are fresh water soaking.. Causing troubles where do you send it for service?
MARK A Yes, and if I remember correctly, I would always check my tank pressure on the boat prior to the splash! The dive time and depth readings start once you are a meter (3ft) during your desent. I found the ease in which you can monitor your air supply, depth and dive time was so amazing, my first few dives I just kept glancing down to see it. I wear reading glasses -150 diopter (if that is the correct terminoligy) and had no problems with viewing the display without any aid or correction. i hope that answers your questions. I have never regreted my purchase! I do use a Citizen Aqualand Duplex as a backup for depth and dive log info and have found it easier to keep a 15 foot safety stop (even in Cozumel's current) by glancing past my wrist with my arms crossed in front of me. I was on my Fire Departments Dive Rescue team for 9 years, so your not hearing from some excitable rookie! Enjoy, whatever decision you make.
TABER W Yes it does after you push the activate button on the side. Full function activates at 3 feet. The mask works great, especially in darker waters at depth, but is very viewable in the bright carribean waters as well.
MIKE H Yes as long as you are in range of tank I am an instructor been diving for 25 years this is a great piece of equipment
RONALD R I have had to send my Oceanic HUD mask back twice already. Now they will no longer warranty it. I should have saved my money. But the Aeris mask is much cheaper, hopefully not cheaper made. I would not buy another one. Hope this helps.
JEHIEL B Yes it does. Once the transmitter is connected to the tank, and the Mask computer is on, you will have a reading right away and will be able to tell the amount of air in your tank. Keep the mask as close as possible to the transmitter while doing this.
Shopper Hey anyone know battery life of transmitter and mask. Also will air pressure
Work out of the water or just in?
RICHARD A I have had this mask for about three years and have had to change the batteries in mask and transmitter twice. It is easy to do and meant to do yourself.
Air pressure works out of water as long as tank air is on. I really like this computer
Shopper can I change settings and download the dive log with an Apple MacBook?
BRANDON G Get Parallels or VMware fusion. I always bring my Mac on vaca.
ERIC W I don't believe so. Tried to do this when I first purchased it last year and it is impossible. Wish I knew that before buying it.
DARIUSZ G I 'm sorry but I don't know, I use windows PC
Shopper Is the mask and transmitter compatable with my Oceanic OC1?
Can the mask download dive data to the Oceanic software?
I'm aware that this is the same as the Oceanic datamask, I just want to verify that there isn't a slightly different interface.
BETTY T My interface never worked.
Shopper 1 of 5 questions:#1-is there any interference or malfunctioning of any kind, when also wearing the aeris dive computer/watch also with a transmitter: #2-is there a compass function with either the watch or Mask:#3-what are the actual Cons re: the HUD functions:#4-How good is the visibility and backlighting: #5-what other equipment functions do you feel would be helpful. ????? Thank you.
ANTHONY F There is no interference whatsoever when using the Datamask and the watch. I actually dive with both and have had no issues with them. You only need one transmitter for both. Just program the transmitter number into both and they will both receive the signal. There is no compass feature in the current Datamask. There are no cons as I see it. There is a slight loss of vision in the right lower view field, but the data it gives is worth it. There are only 2 buttons on the mask so the commands are easier to maneuver than the watch. The visibility is the same as any other mask and the glow on the back light is adjustable from 0-100%. I keep mine on 75% and can see it clearly during day or night diving. A compass would be nice but not a big deal right now. I do a lot of videography so having all of that data readily available without using my hands is very helpful. I am actually very happy with the mask and the assistance it provides me. Hope this helps.
THOMAS V 1. No, the transmitters operate on different frequencies. You can set this mask to read from the same transmitter that your diver computer/watch uses.
2. Not on the mask. No idea on the watch.
3. Sometimes it can fog up. But only if your mask is fogging. If you prep your mask properly w/ anti-fog (or spit) it won't do this.
4. Great in my opinion.
5. Not sure on this one. I don't think they could cram much more into this. It's a great product. I love mine!
JANET O For the price my husband did not care for the product and returned it.
RICHARD A I've used my mask for a few years now and love it. My wife dose not like hers because the mask dose not fit her face well and it leaks. She uses her Aeris wrist computer with the same transmitter. There are no compasses on either. The visibility and back light functions on the mask work great for me but, then again. the mask fits well. I do a lot of photography so having the display in my mask leaves my hands free. I also find that I pay closer attention to my computer data because it's always visible but not intrusive. I hope this helps, Richard
BETTY T Love this mask! 2 years still working great! Works every time easy to see in all light. Very unhappy with cpu interface. Can not download my logs. The softwear never worked.
Shopper The computer can be switched between Metric or Imperial measurements?
LeisurePro S Yes, units are set by the user.
Khody A Since this is the same mask, made by the same manufacturer, do they use the same silicon skirts? Do they use they same PC software? Does the mini LCD screen show the information in the same format?
Shopper Can you change the measurements from psi to bar?
LeisurePro S Yes, units are set by the user.
Shopper How does this vary from the similar Oceanic model?
LeisurePro S These are actually the same mask-- made by the same company, just sold under different brand names.
Shopper The vision in my right eye is pretty bad--what side is the display on?
LeisurePro S Unfortunately, all of the information is presented in a small panel on the lower right hand side of the mask (you can see it in the picture as a little black box). Aeris isn't yet offering prescription lenses for this mask and any external magnifiers won't help read the internal display :(

Whats in the box:Computer (mask), Transmitter, PC Interface Cable, Software, Protective Case, MicroNet Towel, Buff Pre-Cleaner, Sea Gold Anti-Fog, Owner's Manual The CompuMask is not just about having a computer in your mask it is about the many practical benefits provided by truly "Hands-Free" diving. The CompuMask contains a miniature liquid crystal display (LCD) panel, proprietary Digital Optic System, microprocessor, depth transducer, wireless cylinder pressure receiver, diver replaceable battery, and controlling software. The miniature LCD allows you to keep your eyes focused on the dive while presenting critical dive data including: current depth, elapsed dive time, cylinder pressure, and dive time remaining. The Digital Optic System provides a clear, highly magnified image of the LCD, which is viewable regardless of environmental conditions and may be seen clearly by the vast majority of people, regardless of vision. The CompuMask HUD PDC is a sophisticated Personal Dive Computer featuring AERIS' wireless air integration technology. A transmitter threaded into the first stage high-pressure port continuously sends cylinder pressure data to the mask. Frequencies are individually coded to allow multiple divers to swim side by side without interference with other units. Because the transmitter and display module are independent and separately powered units, the mask may also be easily used as a standalone, non-air integrated dive computer. The CompuMask HUD provides accurate depth and time with an amazing 1-second sampling rate for subsequent PC download and analysis. Dive Time is displayed in seconds and minutes. Custom audible alarms include Elapsed Dive Time, Countdown Timer and (3) Independent Max Depth Alarms. The CompuMask HUD is the first Free Diving Computer to calculate and track Nitrogen Tissue Loading, allowing you to switch between SCUBA divers and Free Dives on the same dive day. You're at 80' (24.4 meters) with 1300 psi (90 bars) remaining in your cylinder - how long before you need to begin an ascent to a shallower depth? Aeris patented Air Time Remaining feature calculates your current depth, breathing rate, cylinder pressure, ascent time, and decompression status to tell you exactly how much time you can remain underwater. The CompuMask HUD's primary dive mode always displays approximate Air Time Remaining in 10 minute increments. Dive Time Remaining, like Air Time Remaining provides a 'real' number in minutes, considering Air Time Remaining, Nitrogen and Oxygen absorption, and automatically displays whichever allows less time. The 'Turn-Around' Pressure Alarm is a unique patent-pending feature that allows you to pre-program an audible reminder when you reach 1000 to 3000 psi in 250 psi increments (69 to 207 bars in 17 bars increments). This helps ensure that you return to your exit point with plenty of air. Take the AERIS challenge: When shopping for a new dive computer, compare the displays. When it comes to viewing critical information, which would you rather see at 100' (30 meters)? The CompuMask HUD features a variety of system and user-customized audible alarms, alerting you to situations that pose a potential danger, or simply serve as a convenient reminder. Have you ever had difficulty hearing your computer's audible alarm? Perhaps that little beep signifying a potentially dangerous situation was timed perfectly with your exhaust bubbles rushing past your ears. Or maybe it seemed insignificant as that huge manta ray soared overhead. You won't miss the CompuMask HUD's audible alarm. Once triggered, the alarm will sound continuously for 10 seconds. We know what you're thinking. "That's nice, I'll definitely hear the alarm, but isn't that going to annoy me and everyone else in the water?" We thought of that too. The alarm's job is to get your attention so that you look at the computer. Once it does that, simply press the button and it will stop. You're a responsible diver and the CompuMask HUD treats you that way. The CompuMask HUD acts simply as an 'Air' computer until you tell it otherwise, whether that is this weekend or 2 years down the road. When the Conservative Factor is set to On", the no-decompression limit times are reduced to values equivalent to those that would be available at the next higher 3000' (915 meter) altitude. Our tissue loading bar graphs provide complete control of your margin of safety for each dive. Want to be a bit more cautious? Make it a personal rule to never enter into the caution zone; or stay one or more pixel away. Now you can even program several of our PDCs to do it for you with our patent pending Nitrogen Bar Graph Alarm; set it once and let the CompuMask HUD alert you when your bar graph reaches that level. An audible and visual alarm reminds you as you approach your programmed no decompression safety stops depth and an automatic timer counts down to zero. As in any other dive mode, you still have access to other pieces of information, and there is no penalty should you choose to disregard the safety stop. Speed through menu items and set modes easily and quickly with AERIS' FastSet Menu and intuitive button operation. The CompuMask HUD features time of day on the surface as well as underwater for quick reference. Time and date stamp also helps you to easily identify specific dives in Log Mode or PC download memory. These are just some of the functional features of the CompuMask HUD Computer others are Alphanumeric Display, Automatic Altitude Compensation, Diver-Replaceable Batteries, Battery Hot Swap, 24-Hour Fly Countdown and Calculated De-saturation Time, Depth-Dependent Ascent Rate, Adjustable OceanGlo Backlighting, 24 Dive On-Unit Log Book, History Mode, Gauge Mode, and Split Set Mode Access. Computer comes with a Owner's Manual and is covered by Aeris 24 month limited warranty. Due to MFG restrictions, this can be sold to the USA and Caribbean only.
