Comments about Zeagle Diver Tool Kit with EMT Scissors & Knife with Slate:

The Zeagle Tool Kit rises from the whole public safety niche Zeagle hoped to export into standard recreational diving. You can see the original rapid diver that subseatactical sells now that Zeagle turned into the rapid diver system under their brand name - taking a small amount of the good engineering and making an expensive consumer version... (My thoughts are - why not go ahead and spring for the actual thing? ) In any case - this was the tool kit to accompany their whole recreational public safety crossover. The unit comes with a couple of versions:
Knife alone, shears alone, knife and shears in toolkit, and knife, shears, and on the back - slate.

I bought the most expensive one with the slate. All I can say is I would be ashamed to put my name on this product. The knife is a solid piece of metal with a small tip that has a serrated edge and a cutting edge with a small notch for cutting lines. It is sharp and slim - making it fit well in a slim sheath - but that in itself may be also a reason not to purchase it. It is uncomfortable to hold and I keep wondering when the end will poke through the sheath.

The shears are simple EMT like shears that have a flare for aiding in cutting things off your body. They are made in china and honestly nothing special there. I would rate them average but I'm not a shear expert so maybe there is something I'm missing. The tool kit holder is actually not a bad design - compact and even including a place to hold a pencil.

So what don't I like about it - lets start with the slate. If you can call this a slate - All I have to say is SHAME ON YOU ZEAGLE. They have a poorly cut oval plastic piece on the back that contrary to the pictures is not even fastened on the toolkit! It is loosely held in by two elastic bands. Let's just be real - if you were using this for public safety - you are simply going to flip the thing over and show them some pre-written sign.

In any case - this thing can literally slide off accidentally without much effort. (If you really want this slate - convince your friend to buy it - go to a dive site right after him and pick up his slate off the reef when it falls off) The slate is also pretty thin and can bend pretty easily compared to most slates.

This would be a rocking unit if you could attach it on the back of a real slate with a compass rather than use this literal piece of junk slate they have slid on and charged you $10. I could have had my 5 year old cut this better.

That being said - I could see a place for this unit without the slate. If you're considering buying this so you don't have to buy a slate - think twice. Spend a few bucks and get a slate that will last. The unit is a descent without the slate. I'm giving it two stars just because someone at corporate had to see this before it was put this garbage into production and made the decision - "no go with the cheapest piece of junk slate we can produce to make a buck."
