Comments about Spare Air Spare-Air 3000 3.0 Kit, for Nitrox:

Bottom Line, you should not dive without a redundant air source. No one I have dived with (nor have I) strictly followed the rule that your buddy should be an arms length away. So, if your air fails and you don't have a tank-banger or rattle, then you have a true emergency.

This helps to address that issue. The company and manual make it very clear that this is a stop-gap. It will provide you with roughly 50 breaths, enough to complete an emergency ascent without safety-stop, or enough time to get your buddy's attention in order to share air and abort a dive.

This product is not for everyone. For Self-Reliant and SOLO divers, this is NOT a redundant air source. We still need pony bottles, but even then, this is a great emergency piece. It is not a great source for cave, wreck, or divers below 90 feet (29 meters) due to its very limited capacity.

It is best for the open to advanced open water diver, without overhead obstructions or divers who are not going deeper than 90 feet. However, as I said before, it can always provide crucial air to anyone looking or needing to make an emergency ascent (and will probably need to deal with the friendly chamber folks anyway).
