Comments about Sea-Doo RS2 Sea Scooter:

I was cautious about purchasing a Sea-Doo sea scooter since there have been issues with the earlier product lines (such as seal leaks for one). Then began to hear about the new RS line and read reviews and it looks like Sea-Doo made a concerted effort to come out with a better product. It is well made, uses a Li-Ion battery (besides better run time- about 80 minutes- can be shipped on an airline), added user friendly features (3 speeds, dual push button controls where either can be used thus minimizing thumb fatigue, and an LED read out for battery status). Also, to charge the battery simply unscrew a water proof port and insert charging probe thus no need to crack open housing etc.

On paper it looked good so lets put it to the test. I flew down to Cayman Islands and put it in as check on luggage (kept in OEM box which meets the 62" L+W+H requirement ) and due to Li-Ion battery and weight (boxed: 24 lbs) was no problem. My son and I took it out and ran it hard (keeping it in 2nd and 3rd speeds most of the time) and performed very well and came to surface with 2 of the 3 LEDs still on...only after we were back on the boat did the LEDs finally read with only one on....so still plenty of juice. Very manueverable and reasonably quiet (we also were testing out a BladeFish 5000 which was extremely noisy as compared to the RS2). Dove with it several more times and same results with battery life (takes about 4 hours to recharge from 1 LED light on). I have now mounted a GoPro mount on the nose and that will be for my next dive trip. The only down side I see is when the Li-Ion battery needs replacing (manufacturer does not indicate life of battery e.g. life cycle duration) the battery is expensive.
