Questions about this item:
Michael W So I'm a bit confused. I wear a size 10 shoe, and wear a drysuit with integrated boots. I purchased these in the regular size and couldn't even come close to getting the boots squarely into the fin. The "stern" of the fin only came to a little more than past my arch. I had a good three inches of space in the toe of the fin, and I just couldn't get any more boot into the foot pocket. The size chart indicates I bought the right size, but my arches were aching post dive. Should I go up one size, or should I just exchange these for a different fin altogether?
JOHN M Hi Michael, I have a size 12 foot, with a regular zip up dive boot. I bought an X/large fin, Plenty of room. The only issue I have with these fins is their quick on and off clips. Mine for some reason likes to loosen up on its own, and you get that feeling of a loose fin, I don?t like that. Where I dive, the Guide has the same quick on and off clips and loves it. hope this helps.
SCOTT S Michael,
I am not diving with a drysuit but I would recommend going up a size. I am enjoying this fin but ensuring the boot fits is the essential thing for a good experience.
RALPH B Get a different fin!
MIGUEL C hello, if you have to buy a XL, I also I have 10 and buy a XL, to enjoy
JOHN K Michael, my shoe size is 9.5 and I use a size 9 ankle boot with my Mares X-Stream Open Heel Fins in size Regular. They fit great and no problems. They are such good fins I would try a larger size with your integrated boots before going to another fin.
ANDREW K I would classify these find as reef and wreck warm water fins....
I love them, perfect for my 7mm and 3mm boots
Past that I'd suggest a different fin for dry suit use
Shopper I am a beginner diver and buying my first pair of fins and Im having difficulty trying to find a fin that fits my foot. I know a ware the smallest size fins but my foot is really narrow and so Im trying to find a fin that will work well with narrow feet. Any recommendations?
GARY M S I have these fins and really like them. the strap set up is really easy to release even with gloves on. I have just the opposite issue because I have a wide foot. I found the biggest thing is to try them on with what ever boot you are going to use. Some of the heavier boots will fill up the fin with no problem. Lesiure Pro has a great return policy and there is no risk at trying something, they take it back with no questions asked.
MIGUEL C uses neoprene boots, you will be easier to use.
these fins will be very soft
LINDA H I really like my Mares fins. I am a woman, advanced diver and wear a size 10 medium shoe. I bought a medium originally and it was too big so I exchanged for a small which fits well with hard soled booties. I do really like the fins...they are easy to fin and comfortable.
EMERICH H Hi there,
This fins are fantastic. You should not have any problem with them. My wife have a pretty narrow foot also since X-mas she is been using those fins and she loves them. They are super comfortable
EUGENE W The Mares X-Stream should work for your feet. It is very snug and the adjustable strap makes it easy to give you a tight fit. It's also a very high quality performance fin.
MARIO M Mares X-stream are great fins.... You need to use boots. they are not design to use it with bare feet.
COREY P This is a great fin, I have a medium width foot and it fits great with booties. With booties, your narrow foot should be fine, get the small size. When your bootie is wet it will fit differently than when dry. Demo fins as much as you can.
Shopper are this blades positive, neutral, negative blades?
EUGENE W They are neutral.
MIGUEL C going very well, if would recommend. are neutral.
GEORGE E positive & absolutely wonderful !!
MARIO M slightly negatives.
LINDA H I like these fins a lot...they are easy to propel in the water and lightweight.
TARA B Can the straps for these be changed out to accommodate the spring straps?
KANDACE H I do not know. I did not like these fins at all and returned them. I replaced them with a pair of Mares Volo Power open heels fins which I did put on the spring straps. And, the spring straps are great. I did buy the Mares spring straps.
TARA B Thanks for the feedback, Kandace. I ordered these fins yesterday. I plan to try them out at the local pool and see what I think. I have loved my Apollo Bio Fins but they are a bit heavy when traveling. I hope that these fins give me the same amount of thrust with as little effort as the Bio Fins do!
COLBI W I personally did not change out the straps or try to but I have read many people have. The straps it has are very easy to take off and put on which I really like. I have had no trouble with them at all, but I know many people prefer other types.
EUGENE W Definitely. I actually use the spring straps and they work nicely with the fins. The straps are difficult to put on. I had to take them to a dive shop to have them placed on. Well worth the investment.
TARA B Thanks, Eugene. I feel confident enough now to place the order as I like the convenience of the spring strap too much to give it up.
TARA B I will try them first without making the change. Thanks for the answer.
GEORGE E I hesitate to answer your question because I have not converted mine..they are so easy toget on and off it seemed unecessary...I usually switch but these fins are just fine as is.
LESLIE O yes they can. just take the fins and the springs to your local dive shop. they'll do it for yea. but you can do it yourself. just make sure you have the right springs
TARA B I will have to check to see what kind I have on my Apollo Biofins. Thanks for the answer to my question!
ANDREW K Yes, they are same as the other mares fins, just talk to customer service, sales, make sure they give you correct straps unless they are universal? I don't use those I like what the manufacturer provided with these
TARA B I changed my straps on the Apollo BioFins and really like the convenience of not having to release the strap. I love just pulling the strap away and that's that. Also I never have to adjust the straps during a dive. They always fit!
Corey R I have a question about size because I've seen conflicting information online from another retailer. The XL they have rated from size 12-15. Now I'm a size 13 and width 2E/EE, I wear TUSA size 12 boots which fit snug and also size 13s (more room). Would these fins fit me?
ANATTE L i believe that the XLs would fit you. My boyfriend is a size 15 and he bought the XLs and at the time he was told that they fit between 12-15. I think a L will be too small on you.
They're a wonderful fin. Hope this helps.
LEON P I'm 12-wide and they fit me well, snug but not overly-tight. I'd say they would be a little tight on 13-wide, but should fit.
Corey R Thanks for your reply Leon, what type of boots do you use? My TUSA 5mm have a large sole. Perhaps a less aggressive sole might work?
LEON P I have 3-4 different boots (for different temperatures and types of diving), all worked well with these fins. Thicker, cold-water boots are are tighter fit, but the harder sole on those takes some of the pressure, so I don't feel it much. Hope that makes sense?
BUSH R Have a set but naive not used them yet, sorry I'm not much help
HOWARD M Hi Corey,
I have a size ten foot and got the REGULAR size for the Mares X-Stream Open Heel Fins. They fit perfectly with a boot.
RONAN P best way to test fins is to try them on with your boots on ( you have to consider to if your boots is 7 mm or 3 mm) . even that you have to test them in water. relying on size by internet suggestion wont be of much help. ive used these fins and it makes you kick differently because of its design. it takes time to get used to.
Corey R By the way the boots are 5mm
Cavan H I wear a size 11 eee will they accomodate for a wide foot? is extra large the answer or will my foot be swimming inside
CYNTHIA W I'm Women size 8, fin a little wide but with a boot fits fine. I bought a small
fins great in strong current
hope this helps
DANA H My husband wears a 11.5 or 12 shoes. His scuba boots are 3mm size 45/46. He got the size 'R' fins and they fit great.
MICHAEL S I'm not really sure. I am 5'9" 160 lbs with normal width feet but I have never had a problem getting my drysuit boot into the fin but going one size up may not be a bad idea. But as for the fin itself, it is the absolute best fin i have ever used! I used to use an older set of Mares fins and these at least doubled my propolsion through the water. You will love them!!! Hope this helps.
SUZANNE G I have a size 12 foot and the fin fit fine with my booty on. It was easy to get the fins on and off when getting in and out of the water. I definitely recommend these fins.
JERRY J W I wear a 10 1/2 EE and the extra large feels fine to me.
Jerry
JORGE M I'm also 11 wide. XL are perfect! I really libre my fins. Just Vane back from a 4 day live aboard and they rocked!!!!!
BRIAN R I wear a 10 1/2 did not buy XL and have more than enough room. There is plenty of adjustment in the strap and yes the pocket is wider than the boot I wear. I have a very agressive sole on the bootie and there is still room left
Shopper Do they have good thrust? Are they easy to move around in? I do not want to be doing a lot of work.
LEON P Thrust is well above average. Kick is slightly limited on one-side (there's a rigid stop on one side of the fin, so it goes up, easier than down - which is positive for most divers).
They are not the easiest to kick, this requires medium-to-strong muscles. If you want easy, relaxed kicking - look elsewhere. This is the fin that will generate plenty of thrust when you need it, but strong muscle must be applied.
KANDACE H I did NOT like these fins at all. I tried out a pair of the fins at a local dive shop before I left on my trip. The fins were difficult to move in the water. To make sure I asked one of the dive master to try out the fins. She did not like them either, and had the same complaints. So I returned the fins.
GEORGE E Mares X-STREAM OPEN HEEL FIN has wonderful thrust with little expediture of energy.and maneuvering is great...the fins are easy to get on but even easier to remove ...this is a major plus as I have limited flexibility..I TOTALLY AGREE diving should be as work free as possible and I count my X_STREAMS a real asset..
JACOB D They have very good thrust, I am very happy with them. I find it very easy to move around in the water with them
SEBASTIAN C These x-stream are really good. Great thrust and yes, I would say they are easy to move around....Overall I am really happy with them.
BRIAN R Love the Fin
Easy on and off, no suction problem in the foot pocket.
Light weight
Good snap to the kick from the hinge
Good smoth thrust
JORGE M These have worked wonders for me. Nice thrust, soft feel. Love them!
LINDA H These fins are very comfortable and have good thrust. I was very happy with them...even when there was a current to swim against.
DANA H Yes, every easy to move around in. FAST! I love these fins. They are the best ones I've tried. Very light. I've worn them diving and snorkeling and didn't have any leg fatigue.
SEAN B It's all a balance. They're not as 'easy' as some splits; nor are they as 'hard' as some of the larger more technical ones. Techies probably will find them falling short, Some using the natures wing may find them not as 'easy'. Great 'all around' for recreational. Not small or light for travel.
CAROLE A A Hi this is Michael A,The down thrust is great.A nice up movement, very little effort. Light for travel. Nice comfortable fit.Open heel is the only way to go.The clips are very easy to use, simple and quick, adjust nicely.Mares did it right.Yes, about as easy to get around in, as you can get.
ALLEN A These fins provide WONDERFUL thrust with little to no effort. On the physics side of things, they actually "store" energy by flexing slightly on each stroke and release at the end of each stroke. I would certainly recommend these to anyone who wants a great fin at a great price.
ANDREW K All I can say is awesome! All I have to be compared are my Volo Power, these are much much nicer.....
I'm 6'0, 250lbs. And these new fins are smooth, comfortable and seem efficient compared to the volo power.
Stay safe and enjoy!
COREY P Best find ever tried by me great thrust light weight vented technology in the but really works I use daily one note dont crush our bend in your bag take care they will last hope this helps
NICHOLAS S I have been using these fins for a year now and find them to be excellent. Very little effort to push through the water.
RICK R I really like the X-Stream fin. I purchased them due to a number of positive reviews that I read relative to speed, thrust and maneuverability. They work well both under the water when diving and at the surface while snorkeling. Check out www.scubadiving.com under the gear section, then search for x-stream to access some articles.
TRACEY T These are the most amazing fins - I love them. I can't believe I am writing this about fins as I never thought different fins would make that much difference. I have gone diving with them quite a bit and I found they have excellent thrust and are super easy to move around in. They are also very comfortable. I used to sometimes get foot cramps in my old fins but never these. I am really happy I got them and have made diving even more enjoyable.
PATTI B They work great. We originally had the Apollo Bio fins and these Mares put those to shame. Less weight, easier to move around in the water. One caveat, they tend to be a little buoyant compared to the neutral Bio fins.
Shopper What is the weight of these fins?
TRACEY T I was amazed how light they are - much lighter than my Blades. They are great for travel.
LeisurePro S I have a shipping weight of 4 pounds.

Whats in the box:Pair of Fins X-stream comfort, X-ceptional efficiency The X-stream performance, comfort and lightweight design are the incredible result of sixty passionate years at the service of diving. The X-stream is truly a leap into the future, and changes forever how we envision the creation of a fin. More than 2 years of resources, experiments and testing and four Mares patents all concentrated in one unique product. The Optimized Pivoting Blade system (OPB) allows the blade to maintain an optimal angle throughout the kicking cycle, whereas traditional fins achieve this only during a small portion of the cycle, OPB produces a constant thrust, which minimizes fatigue and produces fluid movement through the water. The ergonomically designed foot pocket delivers maximum power and evenly distributes pressure over the foot to minimize fatigue. The foot pocket interior features internal ribbing that improves fit, eliminates foot suction and prevents foot pocket flexing, while transmitting more power to the blade. X-Streme uses Mares patented design ABS Plus Buckles (Adjustable Binding System). It only takes one quick movement to easily open or close these buckles, even when wearing thick neoprene gloves. The double button release prevents the buckles from accidentally opening making them the most user friendly system on the market. The Super-Channel is designed for the diver who wants the perfect blend of power and efficiency in one fin. The new blade design with a large central Super-channel and two traditional lateral channels provide excellent thrust while maintaining hi-efficiency and minimizing leg fatigue. The blade uses Tri-Material Construction, constructed of Techno-Polymers and Thermoplastic rubber for extended durability. Fin comes in four colors and three sizes, has an overall length between 23" to 25.2" (60 to 64 cm) depending on size and weights 2.9 lbs (1.34 kg); fins come with a 24 month limited warranty.
