The Dive Rite Primary Cave Reel has 250' (76.2 meters) of Heavy .083" (2.11 mm) #36 DuPont Fiber Braided Line, with 350 lbs (158.76 kg) Breakage Strength and a X-Large Marine Grade Stainless Steel Bolt Snap. The Reel positions the Handle on Top, which helps divers who use a handheld light to hold both the light and the reel in one hand, freeing the other hand to work the reel. The Marine Grade Stainless Steel Frame of the reel comes with a Series of Pre-Drilled Holes so divers can change positions from a Top-Mount Handle to a Side-Mount Handle or a Left-Hand Operated Reel... more

The genesis of the Primary Reel began in 1984 when North Florida cave divers needed a reel with 400' (122 meters) of line in order to reach the main line in the Devil's cave system at Ginnie Springs. Voila! The Dive Rite Primary Reel was born. The Dive Rite Primary Cave Reel has 400' (122 meters) of DuPont Fiber Braided .073" (1.86 mm) diameter #24-Line with breakage strength of 220 lbs (99.80 kg) and a X-Large Stainless Steel Bolt Snap. North Florida cave diver, Woody Jasper, first invented sidewinder-style reels around 1980. Less likely to entangle than other reels on the market, Woody's original reel was made of aluminum and a PVC spool. The side-handle style of the reel lent itself to exploration because it could easily switch from hand to hand while laying out line. Dive Rite's Sidewinder Series of Reels are designed to be Anti-Jam by using Precision Machine Tolerances between the Frame and the Spool making it nearly impossible for the line to slip between the spool and the handle... more

In the early 1980's cave divers were in need of small, Line-Cutting Devices. Since the application was strictly for Cutting Lines, they looked to other sports and adopted the Parachute Line Cutter known as a Z-Knife. The Z-knife was a Protected Blade stored away in a Pouch. Today, the Pouches have evolved, but the knife is still the same one parachutists use to cut away a chute. Sharper than a Dive Knife, the 440-Stainless Steel Protected Z-Knife is preferred for Cutting through Monofilament and Braid Line. Compact and Easy to Stow, the Z-Knife is available in a 1" (2.5 cm) Webbing Mount... more

Less likely to entangle than other reels on the market, Woody's original reel was made of aluminum and a PVC spool. The side-handle style of the reel lent itself to exploration because it could easily switch from hand to hand while laying out line. Twenty years later, sidewinder-style reels were popularized in the technical diving community when DIR enthusiasts began using them for paying out line in deep caves at high speed on a Dive Propulsion Vehicle (DPV)... more

In the early days of cave diving, reels were not available to buy off the shelf.Divers used anything they could, including empty electrical wire spools. When exploring, divers would pay out the line and if they didn't empty the spool it would be left in the cave for the next dive. Cave diving pioneer, Woody Jasper, used a medical tape spool with cover to hold that short length of safety line. Today, our 50-foot Finger Spool is most often used as a gap reel or for short distance exploration. Small and low-profile, a spool fits nicely out of the way in a pocket or clipped off to a D-ring... more

North Florida cave diver, Woody Jasper, first invented the Explorer Reel around 1980. As cave explorations were becoming longer, deeper, and more extensive a reel was needed that could help an explorer make some serious penetrations into a virgin cave system. Less likely to entangle than other reels on the market, Woody's original reel was made of aluminum and a PVC spool. The side-handle style of the reel lent itself to exploration because it could easily switch from hand to hand while laying out line. Twenty years later... more

The Cavern/Safety Reel came about as North Florida cave training agencies began establishing standards in cave training. The established standard for cavern divers was to limit penetration no farther than 130 linear feet (40 meters) from daylight. Experienced cave divers use the Cavern/Safety Reel as a Jump Reel or as a Backup for Security. Wreck Divers will use this Reel for Shooting Lift Bags. The Cavern/Safety Reel is available with 140' (42.7 meters) of Durable DuPont Fiber Braided #24-Line which has 220 lbs (99.80 kg) Breakage Strength and a Medium Marine Grade Stainless Steel Bolt Snap... more
