Questions about this item:
Shopper it has been said that this product doesn't come with trim pockets however someone asked and was told that it can with pouches for the tank strap which are used as trim pockets, which of these two answers is correct?
JACK M My Mares Pegasus (bought three years ago) has the integrated weigh pocket system on the hips plus two small weight pockets that mount on the tank strap. I put three pounds in each of these two pouches.
JOHN M I did not receive any pouches with my BCD. I believe that you can purchase them if needed.
I thought that them might have been included but they definitely were not.
DOUGLAS R Leisure pro needs to answer this, because i don't know what it comes with now..
back in 2009 when i bought mine it came with 2 pouches to put on the tank straps for trim weights, and i can tell you, you WILL NEED them...
MATE G It has weight pockets on the sides but no trim pockets on the back.
GEORGE A you can purchase trim pouches seperatly, however i own this bc for warm water and never liked the bouancy trim pouches or not i,d pass on it.
GEORGE H I've had this BCD for a few years, now. Live in Kona Hawaii. Use it a lot.
Mine came with The Mares "MRS" Weight System, the red handles you see in the photos. Mine also came with 2 pockets that can be put on the tank strap, for weights. It is an excellent, durable, minimalist bcd.
Michael C can I add a second tank strap?
JACK M There is a second tank strap slot location above the standard location. The second tank strap may be beneficial to keep the tank stable if you use aluminum tanks that get bouyant att he end of a dive. The two tank strap weight pouches are a nice feature.
JOHN M There are slots in the backpack that could be used for a second tank strap.
CARLOS A yes u can, why i dont know but u can ( u dont need it) pegasus feels safe just w/ one tank strap
DOUGLAS R yes you can, there is a upper & lower slot for the tank strap ...but i do not see any reason you would need it ...
STEVEN W I don't really don'y know I would contact Mares Sports to get a correct answer if I was to quest I would say no
George S I,am 5'8" , 175 lbs with 34" waist and 40" chest. At home dive with 7mm wet suit and sometimes dry suit. Also use 3mm on vacation. What size would you reccomend?
GEORGE H Hi! I'm George H. We are close to the same size. I'm 5'9/185/34/42.
I have a LARGE and use a 3 to 5 mil/suit, mostly in Kona.
BCD is very adjustable and I like the crotch strap. Never thought I would.
I think, for you, I would start with a LARGE, mainly due to your 7mil habitat.
ICHUN L Definitely the Large. I am 5'8", 200lbs, 34" waist (not sure about the chest). I wear 7mm wetsuit + 3mm vest. I wear large and there is still some room to adjust for larger or smaller size.
Matthew F Today I went to the dive shop to try this on and I had one concern. The weight integration is great but the way you pull out the weights has me worries that over time it will break. Has anyone had this problem?
AL P Wife and I both wear this BC and have had no problems at all. The integrated weights work well.
C/O I I have made 18 dives in this BCD, and have not encountered any problems with the integrated weight system. It's a wonderfully minimalistic piece of equipment that's great for traveling and has a surprisingly high lift capability for it's size. I've taken it down to 148 feet and it performed superbly; on par with more expensive models. However, its small size and profile make it perfect for wreck diving and fitting into small spaces. Good luck, stay wet, and, above all, stay safe.
KEITH L I've had this BCD for a while and I love it. have not had any problems at all with the weight integration, which seems pretty sturdy to me. Good luck deciding!
PETER N I have not had any issues with them. They are very extremely robust, diving w/ a wetsuit, i have 8 lbs in each pocket. Looking @ the way that the clip system is designed, it does look like you can replace the clips if they ever break.
Hope that helps.
WILLIAM C I haven't had any issues.
NOBLE E I have had this bcd for 2 years now with aggressive use.. several hundred dives and never had good aftercare to it, it is just as good as the day I bought it. No complaints at all. It is also one of my most comfortable bcds.
YURI S After 3 years it works good.
MARIO C Hi Mathew,
I have been using this jacket now for about 3 years and I have not had an problem with it. Great jacket for the price. Definitely recommend this product.
JOSHUA S Matt,
I'm a former owner of this and I can assure you the construction of this will not break. Unless your ditching your weights each one of your dives which would become costly because you'd have to go back down to get them I wouldn't worry about the breakage. Also they make replacement weight pouches for cheap costs .. i think they are 25$ for a replacement one.
ELI R I had the BC for about two years. No problems so far, though I usually don't take the weights out after each dive.
Matthew F Does this BCD not having a cummerbund make a difference to if it did have one?
ANTHONY N No. but the parachute straps hold it in place better. the parachute straps keep the BC from riding up when air is inside. this means that it feels more natural and less cumbersome
CHARLES G I don't think it needs one. It's perfectly comfortable with the waist strap and chest strap. I personally use the crotch straps too, but some people remove those.
ANDREW M As a larger guy (6'3", 240lbs) I wondered this about the BCD myself prior to purchase. My previous BCD had a cummerbund and I don't regret purchasing the Mares Pegasus. I really love this one and have had no difficulties with it not having a cummerbund. The integrated weight system is fantastic.
KATHLEEN M I don't think so. My husband and I both have this BCD and we have no complaints about them.
Shopper I am 6'5" but I weigh about 170 pounds. I have a waist of 32.. What size should I get!?
Thank you
TODD N Id go with a medium. Im 6', 170, 32" and a medium is just a bit big on me. Great BC!
KEVIN H Go off the size of your waste because there is no rear adjustment to the bcd. It works great on keeping you horizontal will diving the back inflates around the tank keeping it solid in the middle of your back eliminating the side roll as it slides to side. Over all I woul give it 4 out of 5 starts. I have 3 bcds and it makes diving easier
David k Well we got a XL and my son is 6'2" 230 lbs with a 36" waist. I would think a Large would work they do adjust also
GEORGE H I can only say that I'm 5'-9", 34" waist/pants, 180 lbs, big chest. I have this BCD in a large and IT IS VERY ADJUSTABLE. I usually wear a 3 to 5 mil' suit in Hawaii, but I can cinch it down to fit fine without a suit.
Hope that helps! It's a great BC.
Shopper I'm 5'11 and 190- Would you recommend a large?
LAUREL M I'm not sure this will help as I'm 5'4" and 140. I bought a small and it fits perfectly once a few adjustments were made. I would think a large would fit this gentleman since the Pegasus is a back inflatable and not a vest type. Sorry I could be more helpful.
Laurel
AL P It might be close. I'm 6'1" 220.
CHARLES G Depends on your build. I'm 200 and 6'0" and average (not beer-belly, but not six-pack abs either). The large on me is adjusted all the way down. So if you are average or thinner, you probably want the medium. If you are a little "fluffy", you might want the large. Seems like the medium is a better pick in my opinion, since I am a little larger than you and right at the minimum strapping on the large size.
JUSTIN G 5'11" and 200 lbs. the large fits fine!
MARK P A medium is just right for me, I' the same 5'11" about 165. unless you want the weights to be lower.
C/O I I'm 5'6" and 170 lbs. I bought a medium size and tightened all the belts up as far as they go. I think that Mares is very liberal in their sizing, but I guess that may be due to the differences in wet suits. At 190, I think the medium might fit well.
JENNIFER P YEAP MEDIUM WOULD FIT BUT TIGHTLY... LARGE WILL BE PERFECT
THOMAS L Im 5'8" 210, I got the large and it fits great. Snug enough to stay in place, but loose enough to allow for full mobility for those tight spots.
TIMOTHY S I'm 6ft3" and 210 and a xl fit's perfect, so a large should be perfect,
PAUL R probably, they are quite adjustable
Gianluca P I m 6.0 Ft tall and 210 LB which size do you suggest XL?
TODD N I've been very happy with this BCD. I'm 6' and 170 and a medium is almost too big. XL might be too big for you.
SERGEI T My answer is-dont buy it.Try to find something better.
GEORGE H Hi, I'm 5'9" and 180+, big in chest, smaller waist and Large fits me fine. You're quite a bit bigger, than me, the BC is very adjustable, but I'd go for the XL. Good Luck!
DARIO B I am 6'2" amd 220 lb, and the XL fits perfectly well to me, Shoudl be ok to him too.
BH K Hello.
Does this Mares Pegasus BCD have trim weight pockets on rear side?
and I'd like to know how you pack this BCD for travel.
This Pegasus BCD looks light weight and ideal for travel,
but I think it won't be easy to pack in gear bag because it has hard-back.
so, please tell me about how to pack Mares pegasus in small space.
THANK YOU. Merry Christmas. :)
ROGER K The Pegasus does not have trim pockets on the back. As far a travel, it will pack easier than jacket style as it is a back inflate. I have always found that I have to use checked baggage no matter what I take. So my BCD always goes in checked baggage with my fins. All other life support and camera equipment goes carry on. So it really depends on the size you need, and other gear you may take with you.
DAVID I It does not have the back weight pockets just the two quick release ones on the side. As far as packing, I haven't had it on a trip yet. However it should compress down into an carry-on size bag depending on the size you order.
Hope this helps. Merry Christmas!
David
JONATHAN L Correction, 2 weight pockets.
JONATHAN L No, but it comes with a weight pouch you can place on the tank strap.
STUART W Does not have rear trim pockets, would require external pockets (hang on tank strap).
Small space is a relative thing. My wife and I are able to fit all of our gear in to one Aconia travel dive bag, stay under the domestic airline 50 lb limit. Personally, I am not comfortable with the idea of a BCD without a hard-back, consider the perceived added safety well worth the hassle of ONE extra bag for the both of us.
YURI S Hi,
Pegasus has two small pockets on tank band.
Maximum capacity about 2-3 pound each.
I used Pegasus a for vacation a lot.
Just put BCD in the Aqualung case. This case is big enough for all gear.
Merry X-mass, Hanuka and Kwanza.
Shopper Hello, sorry I ask again.. I'm 5'7' tall, 137lb, and usualy were 31'' waist pants. I use 3mm, 5mm wet suit, and 6.5mm semi dry suit.
Which size should I choose among Small and Medium ?
LEVENTE S Well, I'm 6,2' tall and 203lb and I use Large. But I went and try it in a store before order. I suggest the same.
ANTHONY N i'm about your size, and i use a small.
JOHN P I would go with a Small. I am 5'10, 180lbs and I use the Medium with either a 3mm or 5mm wetsuit. It fits me perfectly when cinched all the way down (the straps). I'm almost certain I could use a Small- it would be a snug fit, though.
ILICH S i would say go with a medium, you can always adjust the fix.
CHRIS S Medium...I bought a large and I lost some weight and feel that I'm out of luck unless I can sell my BC to someone and get a new one. These are great BC's...enjoy!
NICK U Hello, I am 5'11" 165 lb 32" waist and have a Pegasus size Large and fits me really well with either a 5mm or 7mm suit. However I want to caution you that the weight pokets are not very stable. Diving in Vancouver over the summmer one pocket came loose and went to the bottom never to be found. I shot up to the surface, fortunately I had just began the dive. It could have resulted in a disaster. I had 8lb in the pocket. With lesser weight usually 4-5 lb never had a problem. It cannot hold more then that, the clip is too shallow the pocket slides right off. If you need bigger weights wear a belt. Either size you choose LP has an excellent return policy, you can exchange w/out hassle for the right size.
MATTHEW A definatly small i wear medium im 5'10 200
Shopper Hello, I'm 5'7' tall and 137lb. I use 3mm, 5mm wet suit, and 6.5mm semi dry suit.
Which size should I choose among S and M ?
VP0386175 J Hi, i'm roughly about the same size and i found the M too big.
DANE L Definitely small. I had this BCD in medium and it was big on me. I am 5'11 155 with a 3mm.
DOUGLAS R i think a medium would be best...i am 5'8" & 190 lb & wear a large, it is plenty big on me...the bc has so much adjustment on it, that it would be almost impossible to be too small but could be too big...
Shopper I'm 5'11, 165lb with 32" waist, planning to use it in warm water without wetsuit.
If I go with the Medium, would the waist band be too big for me, considering Medium is 34-45 waist?
VP0386175 J I'm abt a 31 waist and I found the small size too big for me. Note that I did not use the crotch though.
JOSEPH L Best thing for you to do is to go to a dive shop that has you size & try it on. Only way to be sure.
MARK M It will fin a 32 inch waist but will not be snug. If it was me I would choose it.
SERGEI T Dont buy it.Very hard to opperate with it.In emergency case if you need take out yours weight belt you will have big problem.
NICK V Hi, I'm 5'10" weighing 170 and in good shape with a 32" waist.
I've been using this BCD in warm water with a thin wetsuit. While the medium sized BCD fits, it's on the large size for my body and I would have chosen a small I think. At least for fitting purposes. Currently I have to tighten all straps to their extremes.
COREY T i think med will work fine, there is no velcro ,just a buckle on this travel BC
GEORGE H I'm 5'10,180ish, with a 44 inch chest and I wear 34"/waist pants (which are a little loose, in the waist). I have a large Pegasus, but I dive it in Kona with a 5mil wetsuit.
The waistband is almost infinitely adjustable, along with the shoulder and chest straps. Also, while it sounds strange, the crotch strap is great and I always use it. Point being, if I went to warmer water, with no suit, the bcd would adjust fine for that, as well.
The narrow waistband and crotch strap makeup for no wide cummerbund and I like the stability/weight better.
Especially for your stated use, I think your decision and sizing are right-on.
This bcd is a marvel of rugged, simplicity.
Shopper I'm 1.8m height, waist 34in and weight 75kg, I dive in tropical water I am not sure what the size i shall consider? I am looking for replacement for my 10years old rusty jacket BCD.
JON C I would probably go with a medium considering your weight and waist.
GEORGE H Hi! I've had this BC since 2009. Use it mainly in Hawaii with a 3mm wetsuit.
I'm 5 feet 10 inches tall, so we are close to the same height. I weigh 180 pounds and have a 34 inch waist, 44 inch chest. I bought a large and it cinches-up well, on me, with and without the wetsuit.
I wasn't sure about the crotch strap, at first, but I really like it. I'm still not completely sold on integrated weights, vs a weight belt, but they work well.
PEGASUS is an excellent, minimalist, no frills BCD and I highly recommend it.
Good luck!
Shopper I'm 5'10" and weigh 175 pounds. I normally dive with either a 5mm or 3mm wetsuit but sometimes with a dry suit this winter. What's the proper size?
LeisurePro S I would recommend the large.
Shopper What is the difference between Cordura and 1000 denier material?
LeisurePro S Corudra is a texturized material and ballistic nylon (the stuff of denier counts) is filamentous. Here is a forum explaining more of the differences.
Shopper Is this 100% ready to dive straight from the box?
LeisurePro S Yes, this BCD is ready for diving right from the box.
Shopper IDoes this BCD have trim weight?
GEORGE H Mine also came with 2 pockets for threading onto the tank strap.
LeisurePro S No, there are no trim weight pockets on this BCD. There are just the two MRS pockets and the two attached side expandable zippered pockets for various accessories.
Shopper Does it have two tank straps?
LeisurePro S This comes with a single tank strap.
Shopper How much does the Pegasus weigh?
LeisurePro S The Pegasus weighs 8.3 pounds.
Shopper What is the lift of this BCD?
LeisurePro S Around 42 pounds.
Shopper Does this BC comes with the inflator hose?
LeisurePro S Yes, LP hose is included with BCD.
Shopper I'm looking to buy my first BC. I like this one and love the price. what are the pros cons to the wing type over the vest type BC or is it personal preference?
LeisurePro S It mostly comes down to personal preference, but most people tend to think that jacket style BCDs are most stable on the surface and all around feel more "protective" while others like the free-ness and streamline qualities of rear inflation BCDs. Wings and backplates are a whole other field for those divers really getting into technical diving and personal customization. If you check out some scuba forums, particularly Scubaboard.com, you will find a plethora of opinions and user comments on all styles.
Shopper does this bc have a lower rear dump valve?
Shopper Regarding the integrated weight system, what is the weight configuration, i.e, are there two releasable and two non-releasable pockets (e.g., in the back), or just two releasable pockets? What is the maximum weight per pocket?
LeisurePro S There are the two releasable MRS pockets on the sides and well as two side expandable zippered pockets. The MRS (Mechanical Release System) pockets have an 18 lb capacity in sizes XSmall & Small and a 26 lb capacity in sizes Medium through XLarge. The zippered pockets don't have particular weight specifications.
Shopper Does the Mares Pegasus have a cummerbund...what is the purpose of the cummerbund....
LeisurePro S No cummerbund, Purpose is to increase comfort and stability
