Questions about this item:
Shopper Do you have the same computer?
RICHARD V Yes, I recently purchased this unit, replacing a Uwatec Galileo Sol. It is a great computer, I love the visibility and the colors....obviously it takes a bit to get used to. So far so good! If you have further questions, just ask!
Mike S Can 2 Transmitters be viewed from the same computer during a single dive?
DAVID C Hi , theres a model of Mares Dive omputer that allows you to add up to 3 transmitters to your dive computer. You can check your manual under the getting started section.
Regards
TIMOTHY S I have never attempted it myself, however the manual, up to three transmitters can be viewed on one Icon HD unit.
Wilson A What kind of battery does the computer use? I would like to know for a future battery replacement.
MARK F The computer has a built-in rechargable battery. I believe it is lithium ion, but I'm not sure.
In any case, the battery must be replaced by the factory or a Mares dealer.
Hope H How well does the compass work? Is it affected by tilt? Has anyone compared this in use to the Galileo - how are the displays of either one affected by angle of point of view in the water? Thanks!
TIM M Hope H,
I have not used the compass a whole bunch but it works very well. It is not affected by tilt from what I have observed. This computer compares very well to the Scubapro Galileo. A couple of my friends have the Galileo so I can tell you they are very similar in function.
I believe the Icon HD is easier to read as it is not effected by the off center fade that the Galileo suffers from in the display department. The Icon is always bright and easy to ready at any angle. If there is a minus is that eats battery power quickly but since you can easily charge every night after a day of diving, that has never been a negative for me.
MARK W The compass worked very well while diving in Australia. I tend to use the compass like any other floating compass, when I used the Icon, I automatically held it fairly level. I did find it easier to use than the 'old style' floating compass. I did not compare the Icon to the Galileo. I had no problems reading the displays on the Icon while underwater. I was thrilled when Mares finally added the hose-less function. That was my only piece of information while diving: the cpg readings. Now they are delivered to the Icon. I found this feature especially helpful during night dives: I did not have to find my cpg and point a dive light on it to monitor tank pressures. My dive partners commented that he/she could read my info during the dive.
Mark
SEAN F Actually I was so disappointed with the icon that I gave it to my girlfriend and she doesn't like it much either. I use the cobalt by atomic aquatics and it works like a charm. One of the reasons for my dissatisfaction was the air integration was promised and promised and by the time it was really available I lost interest and moved
David O The Icon HD compass works great and it is very accurate. The Galileo and the HD work the same. You must have them fairly level for an accurate reading. It is exactly the same as using an oil bath compass with rotating compass card. If you tilt any compass more than 20 degrees, it will be inaccurate. The Mares HD compass displays on the entire color screen and has worked great for me, even in limited viz. I also have an oil compass on my gauge console as a back-up. I purchased my regulator/gauge console way before the Icon HD was developed. The air integration is a great asset and the unit will record everything about your dive. Make sure your Icon HD is fully charged before each day of diving. Good luck.
DAVID K W I can't compare to the Galileo. My sense of it is that they seem to be using a magnetometer comparable to what you see in a modern smartphone. Which is to say, it works adequately well, and has a similar tilt-envelope. If I were using a compass extensively for navigation, I would still prefer the real thing.
Fred F How do I turn my computer HD ICON in a air integrated? Just buy the transmitter?
Please let me know ASAP.
Thank you,
Fred Fogel
Rio de Janeiro - Brazil
David R If you purchased the version without the transmitter a while back, you'll need to send in your computer for an upgrade to the one with the transmitter.
Marc N I haven't used my Icon HD in about 2 years and when I plug it in to charge, nothing occurs. I occasionally get the green light to come on for a second and then nothing again. So I am thinkning that I need to replace the battery. However, when I call the Mares authorized dealers near my location, they seem to be puzzled at which battery it takes. Do you know which battery is needed for the Mares Icon HD and do you sell it?
Thanks!
Monica s Your battery is rechargeable, it does need to be charged to at least 20% capacity before it turns on, so try to leave it for a while and if your still having trouble you may have to send it in for a technician to check it out.
Justin R Is this computer good with planned deco diving and multiple gas mixes?
MARK F Yes.
The computer has a good planning mode.
It also can handle up to three different gasses and you can switch gases during the dive.
Whats in the box:Computer, Transmitter, Digital Online Class, Padded Bag and Owners Manual Incredible Color, High Definition Dive Computer Introducing the all-new Icon HD to the market, Mares is bringing state-of-the-art consumer electronics technology to the underwater world. Flat screen televisions, cell phones, PDAs, notebook computers, all use an LCD display, the same technology that Mares is using for the Icon HD screen. ICON HD is a True full-color mineral glass display computer. Its screen is made using LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) with TFT (Thin Film Transistor) technology. The new Mares Icon HD uses Mares-Wienke RGBM (Reduced Gradient Bubbles Model) algorithm. The RGBM takes into account the phenomenon of micro-bubbles in order to prevent their formation. In over 10,000 real dives monitored by Dr. Bruce Wienke in the Los Alamos laboratories, the formation of micro-bubbles has been studied and evaluated in order to better understand the mechanism behind how micro-bubbles are formed during a dive. Today it is the most evolved algorithm for reducing the formation of micro-bubbles without compromising dive times. An intuitive software, the use of large characters, and the contrast created by using different colors, makes the on screen information easy to read, immediate and clear. During the dive besides the standard navigation mode EXTEND, divers can switch to a second dive mode PROFILE. ICON HD processes and shows the full dive curve in real time. The computer's memory allows the storage of images and photos, including digital maps of diving spots. The easy excess push buttons allow the diver to operate the computer in all conditions, even when wearing thick gloves. Navigating through the computer programs is extremely simple and very intuitive. The Icon has a maximum depth display of 492' (150 meter), a memory capacity of 100 hours, runs on a user replaceable rechargeable lithium battery, power indicator, has a plan mode display, can be used in both imperial or metric units, fresh or seawater settings, residual nitrogen reset, option to exclude audible alarms and uncontrolled ascents", has an ascent rate indicators, and is altitude adjustable. A gas switch function allows divers to use up to three different gas mixtures during a single dive. The computer calculates the decompression schedule accordingly, so that you can take full advantage of decompressing with high oxygen concentration mixes. Integrated interface: a reprogrammable processor with a rewritable chip for software upgrades. The dive computer software is upgradeable. As Mares continues to introduce new features and functions to its computers, you can benefit from these improvements without needing to buy a new product: simply download the new software release from the Mares website and install it into your existing computer using the dedicated interface. The Icon HD knows that not all of us who dive are young and in peak condition, it address this with precautionary program settings that allow individual adjustment to more conservative dive profiles if needed. When you do multi-level, multiple dives during a single day or multiple dives over several days you can choose different setting levels in order to adjust your computer to a more conservative dive profile. The Icon also has a digital compass function for navigation. The compass mode can be activated both on the surface and during a dive. Both on the surface and during the dive, divers can also make use of the sighting function so that the compass will show the selected direction. Air Integrated computerized monitoring of tank pressure is used to determine a bottom time which depends not only on your depth, but also on your actual gas consumption, increasing your dive safety. In addition, the gas consumption (referred to the surface) is displayed on the computer for more control over your dive. The computer does this via a HP Transmitter attached to your first stage regulator HP port by sampling the pressure drop over time and giving you the rate of consumption in minutes remaining. If the time remaining is greater than the no-decompression limit for your depth it will display the shorter time allowed. The combination with icon's high definition color display brings tank pressure information to a new level. Detailed numerical information is accompanied by intuitive, at-a-glance color coding. Blue and green means the pressure is above the mid tank warning, red means the pressure is below the reserve, orange and yellow for values in-between. The thresholds are set by the user for maximum customization. The Icon HD comes with a PC interface for logging dives on your PC; the computer is also software upgradeable over the internet. This feature makes it possible to download the latest software developments as Mares creates them, without the need to buy a new computer unit. Icon also has a watch, date and temperature functions. Smart, easy to use and upgradeable the Icon HD can do it all. A user info screen allows you to save your personal information, such as full name telephone number, blood type, any allergies and any other important information you want to have with you. Special characteristics: nitrox mode with 3 different oxygen mixes, integrated interface, rechargeable lithium batteries, map function, pictures function. Icon HD comes with a free padded bag, User Manual and has a 24 month limited warranty. Get the Mares iDiversDiary App for iPhone and iPad at iTunes. Over 300 dive/wreck maps are now avilable to downloadfor FREE from Mares. Find them here
