Questions about this item:
Shopper I just got certified. I am a good swimmer but out of shape. Would these fins be too "big" for me? Causing cramping or would they be okay for a novice
JOHN P I feel that these fins are too large for me. I consider myself to be in decent shape with good leg muscles, but I just didn't feel they propelled me through the water. Wouldn't get these again.
GARY H This is my 2nd pair of Mares. These fins aren't too stiff. I've had stiff fins and split fins. I prefer these. I don't think these fins would wear you out.
KENNETH E We bought these fins after a guide on a dive trip took away our split fins and gave us some to wear. We gave our split fins away to the natives and ordered these as soon as we got home. They are probably the best fins made and that is attested to by the fact that they are worn by more professional divers around the world than any other fin. They are super easy to swim with and very comfortable. If you continue to dive you will probably end up with them anyway so save the money and buy them now.
KEN K First off congratulations on becoming a certified diver. And welcome to the diving
world.
This is and always has been one of the top fins in the buisness. And it all comes down to how you use them, fins are not designed for swimming their
used for ballance far more. So if you use them in that manner you'll never get
a cramp remember diving is relaxing fun sport not strenious. Take a peak
bouyancy course and learn to hover with minimal fin movement. You will be
glad you did it makes everything so much more injoyable.
Hope this helped
Ken Kirby MI - 97111
ROMAN S This is good fins for someone who likes hard kick and has strong legs, also for drysuit divers or cave divers, they good for frog kick. For recreational diving i prefer use light split fins.
Shopper 2 Questions:
R these fins neutral or negative? also, can I back-kick with them???
HEIDI M Neutral. This is my second pair in 10 years. I love them !!
DENNIS B Negative...
Sorry,,, don't know what "back-kick" is...
These are my shore diving fins... good fins.
Run large on size chart. I suggest trying them on at
scuba store before ordering on net.
EUGENE B They are positively bouyant (they float).
The back kick is up to you. They seem to work OK for me.
JAN N They are negative and you can NOT back kick with them. Great fins for long swims. Very effecient and less chance of your calfs cramping up but they are not stiff enough like the shorter and thicker technical fins to allow for a proper back kick. I love my Avanti Quattro but use other fins for Technical dives into confined spaces where I have to be able to back-kick.
MIKE N These fins are neutral if the buckle assembly is removed and replaced with bungee. You can frog kick and kick backwards with these. I use them for cave diving.
CHARLES E they are slightly negative and yes you can back kick with them.
KAREN M These are a very heavy, stiff fin, especially for a women. Even my significant found them exceptionally more difficult than our other fins. I went back to my much lighter and more powerful Mares Volo Power fins and I just love them! Use these now for back-up only.
Shopper Are these fins positively buoyant (i.e. do they float)?
KEN K No they don't they are slightly negative. But they are the best fin in the industry wonderful feel and comfort with plenty of torque yet smooth for
minimum use. Great movement with little stroke. Can't say enough good
things about this fin. You'll LOVE em !!!!
DAVID G These fins do not float.
EUGENE B I have the blue ones and they float.
CHARLES E No they will sink. they are however the best fins I have owned and I have tried quite a few. I always come back to the Mares.
KAREN M I WOULD NOT THINK SO AS THEY ARE VERY HEAVY. I WOULD ADVISE FOR STRONG SWIMMERS ONLY AS THEY ARE A VERY STIFF FIN. HAD TO GIVE THEM TO HUSBAND AS THEY TOTALLY EXHAUSTED ME. THEY DID SAME TO HIM.
Shopper What size would you recommend to use with a Deep Sea 5mm Manta boot size 11? Product code is DPSBMN
Thank you
NICK A Their size chart would recommend a large but I would buy a medium so you have more room on the band to make the release feature more functional.
CHARLES E I would recomend large
Shopper can this be used without boots?
ALLEN S Like most open-heel fins, they are veryuncomfortable without booties. The fit on bare (or sock) feet would also be poor.
KEN K Hi:
Thanks for the question, No open heel fin needs to be used without a boot or at least a low top neo sock or shoe. The foot inset is too large and the strap will
cause blisters on the heal as well as the blisters on the toes and feet due to the
movement of the feet inside the pocket because of the excess room. This is why
their designed to be worn with boot or booties.
ANDREW M i think you would find the foot pocket to big, I use them with a hard sole boot and Mares Spring straps. Great fins a all types of water
EUGENE B Wouldn't advise it. The void created by not using boots would cause significant chafing on the top of the foot.
MARGARET W Yes, if you have to. I did when I forgot my booties once in the Caribbean but they are designed to be worn with booties.
RUSSELL S No, the foot pocket is to big. If you want use it without boots get the full foot version.
Shopper For a men size10, 3-5mm boot. What size would you recommend, reg. or xl?
ALLEN S I wear a size 10 shoe and a size 9 bootie. The regular fit me fine.
JEFFERY J F i wear size 12-13 (usa) shoes. i typically wear 3mm boot and have xl quattros. they fit me well
Wojciech M What size should I get fot 8 /12 man size 3mm boot?
Alvaro F Do you feel the size is right, or would you go larger?
RUSSELL S I wear a 10 mens with a 5 mm dive boot. I'm using the regular size fin.
Shopper which are better - these or the Cressi fins? I do a lot of warm h20 diving south of Florida
KEN K Thanks for your request I once was a Mares Dealer so I may be a little
partial. But the Avanti Quattro fin has, and is today the finest fin on the
market. I have used split fins, ratchet fins, turbo's and fins of all types
of fins in my 22 years of diving. With over 12,300 Dives and I've went
through many sets of fins. I can say with total confidence this is still
the finest fin in the industry. It is an all around piece of equipment that
works well in current and calm equally well.
Best of Diving to you and Merry Christmas
Ken Kirby IDC Staff Instructor Padi 97111
GINA K I can't say if the Cressis are better. I have the Mares Avanti Quattro and I love them! I've dived all over from then including Truk where the water was 84 degrees. I've used them in water that has no current and also water with lots of current. I don't think you can go wrong with the Avanti. My 2 cents.
CHRISTIAN A The Mares Avanti Quattro are a better overall fin than the cressi, however they are both good. The Mares are one of the fastest fins out there. Don't let a scuba instructor fool you into beleiving that split fins are faster. cressi also makes a good product, probably a bit cheaper than the Mares. I use my Mares fins for diving in cold water in New England, hundreds of dives a year. I will not be owning any other fins than the Mares brand.
JAN N I do not have any experience with the Cressi fins and my friends who use Cressi only use their extremely long free diving fins (some of them have both the Cressi and Quattro with closed heals). I have used the Mares Avanti Quattro with open and closed heals (Closed for free diving in Hawaii) for over 25 years and believe they are the best allround fins there is. I use them exclusively except for technical diving where I have to be able to swim backwards in tight quarters (they are too soft for the backward swiming techique). The quattro is amazingly comfortable and effective resulting in better propulsion and less chance of cramps during long dives (as a rebreather diver i frequently spend 3-4 hours swimming on one dive). Based on my own experience with fit, design and overall great quality I would recommend the Avanti Quattro to any diver except the extreme technical cave and wreck penetration diver for the above reasons. Good luck with your choices.
RUSSELL S I use these fins in warm and cold water. I travel all over and have been very happy with these fins. They have plenty of power wben you need it.
GERALD R These are great fins. Lots of power, move you around easily in current and makes maneuvering easy. I have not used the Cressi fins, but these are the ones my Dive Instructor uses, so I tried them and like them.
JEFFERY J F haven't used any cressi fins
the mares avanti quattro are big stiff powerful fins and take corresponding kicking energy; i like them and use them about equally often as my tusa x-pert zoom split fins (the mares and tusa fins kick differently -not surprising i suppose)

Shopper what is the weight of these fins ?
LeisurePro S Each fin weighs approx. 2.5 pounds.
Shopper Doe these fins come with the abs plus buckle system?
LeisurePro S Yes, the Avanti Quatro fins come with the ABS buckle system.
Shopper What size should I get for a size 11 dive boot?
LeisurePro S I would recommend an XLarge for a man and a regular for a woman.
Shopper What size should I get if I will be wearing a size 10 Blue Reef Ultra 5mm Dive Boot?
LeisurePro S I would recommend the medium.
Shopper Is this a sutable fin for free diving? I have had ankle ligiment reconstructive surgury is it ok
LeisurePro S Good all around fin.
Shopper How long are these fins (open heel XL)? I need to know what size bag they'll fit into (a 22' or 25')?
Shopper what is the length of the small size fins?
Shopper I'm after fins that are a) easy to get on an off (please - i've had enough with difficult fins!) and b) will be efficient but also short enough for wreck diving. Long fins are a pain on wrecks and I do a lot of wreck diving. Would these be OK?
LeisurePro S Yes, They will meet the requirements you have mentioned. Enjoy you dives.
