Questions about this item:
Chris B Hi everyone,
I'm 6'3" and weigh 250lbs. I'm a little concerned about sizing as the XL says >176 lbs - that's a long way from 250. Will an XL actually fit me?
Thanks for your time
JOHN I My son is 6' and 234 lbs. The BCD is a little loose through the sholders but OK.
I am 6'4" and 280 lbs. The BCD is a bit snug on me but OK.
I think the XL should be a good fit for you.
John Ingraham
WEBSTER M I ordered 2 sizes (Med.& Large) and tried them both out. I sent the med. back for a credit. I am 5'-9" and 180 lb. The "Large" fit me the best. Leisure Pro is great about taking anything back like this that doesn't fit. The only downside of this BC is that it is heavy.
DAVID J I'm not sure. I'm about 200 and it fit OK. I think you might benefit from trying it on.
Clare B Hi, will the weight integrated pockets for this BCD also work with the Mares Dragonfly airtrim? Thanks
GEORGE H I am not sure, but I think they are interchangeable. Perhaps a call to Mares might provide the definitive answer.
AMY M I have two mares BC's. one integrated one not. They both use the same weight pockets - mares BC's seem to have interchangeable pockets- pretty standard.
JEREMY K it depends on when your dragonfly was made. if it is an early model no cause it dose not have the big clips.
JOHN K Hello
I wish I had an answer for you but honestly don't know. I bought 2 BCs ...,this one and one for my wife and those weight pockets were the same on both
JD
MITCH B I don't know the answer to that question. That said, I would not recommend the Dragon Airtrim BC. It is heavy, bulky and creates resistance through the water.
Alessandro M What is the most difference between Mares Dragon and Mares Hybrid ?
GUSTAVO G I have both (Hybrid Pro Tec). The Dragon Airtrim has the Airtrim inflator, which is very easy to use except that to deflate when horizontal one has to bend slightly up. The Hybrid has a standard inflator, which some people will prefer.
Rei C I ordered this BC from you guys about a month ago and have no idea how to rinse the insides w/ fresh water. I've been using my mouth to flush water through it? I really don't like doing this but I haven't found anywhere how to rinse it properly. I'm sure people buying this are curious too. Thanks
Frank L You can remove the over expansion valve on the back and put water in that way.
Shopper Can you use an air 2 w/ ( I have an atomic air 2 second stage originally used on my dive rite unit) this or how does the octopus situation work with this BCD?
SEAN F No, you would not be able to use the atomic SS1 or any other manufacturer's safe second stage inflator with any BCD that is equiped with the "Air Trim". That's the only negative about BC's with air trim (in my opinion.) I wrestled with that myself a couple of weeks before I went ahead with the "Air Trim". The trade off is you don't have to lift your left arm while decending or ascending which is nice or feel around for the inflator while submerged. One minor issue that takes some getting use to with the Dragon Air Trim is that either dump valve you use dumps A LOT of air QUICKLY and if you dump air before you submerge it sounds like someone is ripping off some serious gas (which you can blame on your dive buddy) but after four or five dives you should be use to it and can obtain neutral bouyancy quickly. If less clutter and one less hose is a priority to you than I wouldn't purchase an "Air Trim" because you will have to hook an "Octo" to your First Stage. Hope this helps in your decision.
AUSTIN H I run a seperate octo on this bc. You could try the threads to see if it fits, but you would to run two low pressure lines to connect the air source on the octo as well as the airtrim inflator on this BC. I have and love this BC, but if you want the air 2 inflator\octo, maybe not right for you.
TOM M I'm not sure I understand your question---but if your are talking about your regulator setup it's the same except your air line (inflater) goes to the left front of the BCD where you control inflation and deflation by the control on the left front of the BCD. Your octopus, computer and main regulator are not affected. Hope this helps (I like this BCD) you never have to look for your inflator hose as its attached to the BCD (left front by your waist).
ANDRES A sorry, you can't use an Atomic SS1 with this BC, it doesn't have a corrugated hose.
Andres
JAMES M You cannot use a BC integrated octo with this BCD. You either need to use a standard octo or spare air.
Wael A I am concerned about the size of the BCD
I am male 5'11 waist size 34 chest size 42, moslty using a wetsuit.
Should I go for a medium or Large?
JOSHUA W If you want to be able to use a nice thick wetsuit, get a large. I am the same size and tightens up enough for warm water skins and loosens up enough for a 7mm suit. I'm selling mine if you are interested. Text me 865-603-7403. Only used a few times. Baby on the way so I can't afford it anymore.
NICHOLAS S I am the same measurements as you and I went with a large. I felt that the medium was too short
Shopper ??? is airtrim is different from regular Dragon BC?
STEVE S I have been diving with my Mares airtrim BC for four years and I love it. This BC is different in that it puts control of BC inflation and venting at the touch of your hand in a very natural position. You can vent air at any body angle, no more messing with a traditional BC inflator deflator hose. Once you dive with this type of air control you won't want to go back! The only other BC manufacturer that makes this type of system is Seaquest, both my kids have these, but I have been very happy with the Mares.
GREGORY G The Dragon does differ from the air trim in that it has a conventional, manual hose for oral inflation like most BCs. The Airtrim doesn't have this hose, but a small emergency oral inflation hose tucked into the left pocket. Hopefully, you'll never have to use it as I'm not sure how easy it would be to operate under stressful conditions; if you get the Airtrim, I would suggest practicing with the manual inflator while diving so you know what to do should you really need to use it. Aside from that, I really like my Dragon Airtrim since it doesn't have a standard manual inflate hose getting in the way and finding the inflate/deflate trim control is easier than locating a standard inflate on the hose. The other reason I like my Airtrim is that it has a large amount of buoyancy compared to other BCs, although the standard Dragon is most likely the same in that department but I haven't checked. This is particularly helpful when diving with a drysuit. Hope my comments help you decide which one you prefer.
MIKE C Yes the airtrim allows you to be in any position when adding or releasing air from your bc. the bc is quite large esspecially when inflated while at the surface it takes a little getting used to but overall i am happy with it. hope this answers ur question
DOUGLAS B yes,
The air trim do not have the "inflate deflated tube" locate in your shoulder.
in the lower left side of the BC you will find a valve to do this job so , you can deflate the BC practicaly in any position. in the regular BC you need to raise the tube upwards to deflate.
hope that that it answer your question
JEFFERY T The biggest difference between the two is the ergonomic inflator/deflator that is permanently attached to the left side of the BC. There is no elevating it over your head, just reach to the large buttons and push.
MIKE C Yes. There is an integrated air release system on your left side that allows you to release air without the old "holding the tube above your head". There are two release points, one on your shoulder and another on your lower back. Whichever one is higher will be the release point for the air.
ANDRES A It is the same BC, but without the power inflator hose, it uses a pneumatic mechanism to inflate and deflate, and is very comfortable. I recommend it.
Shopper I'm a male.
I'm 173cm. 61kg. 29"waist and 33" chest.
Which size is right for me?
AUSTIN H I suspect that you would want a small.
Google Mares BCD size chart, they wont let me post a link on here because they are afraid you will learn that there are other dive stores in the world.
Seems silly, but there it is.
I am 6'0 Tall with 32" waist & 40" chest and the medium fits me fine. The waist belt is about as snug as it will go with me. Great BCD. Had mine for 5 years now with no problems whatsoever.
I am however diligent about filling it with freshwater after dives and connecting it back up to the cylinder so you can open the air powered valves and rinse the insides of them also. So know that the air valves require a bit more maintenance than normal. But again, no problems with mine and I feel that the extra cleanup work is worth it.
SHARON B The BCD fit true to size chart.
GREGORY G Hi... It kinda depends on if you are going to wear a wetsuit or drysuit. Leisure Pro does have a great gaurantee should your BC doesn't fit correctly, they will arrange an exchange at no additional cost. Since the BC is a top of the line piece of equipment, you might want to consider being able to fit into it a few years down the road. I would guess the size for you would be a small with a thin wetsuit, but if you're going to diving in a drysuit, you might consider a medium. It might be best to call Mares directly with your question, as they would be the best source for your question. As far as the Mares Dragon is concerned, I love it! Feel free to get back to me if you have further questions and safe diving!
Shopper What factors are most important in sizing?
LeisurePro S The most important factors to match are chest and waist, I would start with the size you fit the best in those parameters.
Shopper What is the dry weight of this unit?
LeisurePro S A large is 8.4 pounds.
Shopper Were is the manual inflator located at
LeisurePro S The oral inflator is stored in one of the side zippered pockets where it can be pulled out easily and used if need be. Everything one this bc is "tucked away" to make it more streamlined.

Whats in the box:BCD, 2 Quick Release Weight Pockets, LP Quick Disconnect Hose Mares' new Jacket Style Dragon Bladder design is tightly tailored to reduce drag, placing much of the air cell around the tank. The air cell is contoured to greatly minimize the feeling of the bladder underneath your arms, and gives comfortable surface flotation. All that ergonomics and still has a lift of 44 lbs (20 kg) size lg. Innovative Protective buoyancy Cover Material: Superior combination of 3D Alutex net adds protection, abrasion resistant, with a smooth shield fabric covering. The Air Cell is made of durable (420) Cordura denier. The Mechanical Release System (MRS Plus), Mares evolution of the first mechanical weight system introduced to the market, incorporating a newly designed buckle system, one pull movement to release your weights. Ergonomically shaped pockets to form to your waist, with large, zippered opening allows for easier insertion of weights. Max load of 13 lbs (6 kg) with most sizes. Inside Velcro to section the pocket in case you don't use the full capacity. The Dragon has two rear trim weight pockets holding up to10 lbs (4.5 kg) total. These pockets are positioned in the lower part of the BCD for better upright body efficiency at the surface, and a more streamlined profile. Back Protection System (BPS Plus) patented dual position lumbar capability. Heavily padded in either position, you can double the padding for increased lumbar support or extend the length of the padding depending on body shape for ultimate pre-dive comfort. Smart D-ring position with large AISI 304 Stainless Steel rings, 2 bent: 2 upper and 2 lower that are positioned intelligently within your downward vision also functioning as leverage while inserting the weight pockets. Comfort is paramount with the Dragon with its independent harness which allows the air bladder to inflate away from the diver eliminating the crushing effect of BCD's that have fixed harnesses. Elastic cummerbund secures the BCD in place and adjusts for wetsuit compression at depth. QAS-Quick Adjust System, change the length of the cummerbund for a better customized fit. A neoprene padded collar and internal plush lining also adds comfort. For perfect buoyancy underwater, the first and only pneumatic system (patented) that revolutionizes and simplifies buoyancy control during the dive, making it precise and immediate in any position and under any condition. It features a single intuitive and ergonomic control to inflate and deflate the BC. Two oversized buttons, which are easy to operate and allows for easy and accurate buoyancy control. The exclusive "Twin Exhaust Valve" technology, patented by the Mares research laboratories, allows the Airtrim deflation button to simultaneously control both of the pneumatic exhaust valves: that way, it's possible to deflate the BC simply by pressing a single button, without worrying about your position in the water. With adjustable chest strap, two angled zippered pockets, rugged carry handle, dual position hose clip for your gauges, shaped shoulder straps adapt better to alleviate pressure on the shoulders, safety whistle and lots of lift 44 lbs (20 kg) in the large size makes this one great BCD. Dragon comes in four sizes and has a 24 month limited warranty.
