Shopper What are the differences between Elite and Elite t3?
Joe S The Elite T3 is a newer version and can do multiple gases of nitrox up to 100%. It has an updated menu, a new look, and a few other features. Some are the safety stop timer is adjustable, you can add a level of conservatism.
ROBERT M The only difference I am aware of is that the T3 can monitor three separate tanks (assuming each has a transmitter) whereas the elite only monitors one tank.

Shopper Will the o ring for the battery compartment on the T3 fit the Oceanic VT4?
KELLY-ANNE M You are talking about two different brands never mind two different models of computer, for the cost of a 20c o ring ensure your computer doesn't get flooded!
If you need to use the o ring at least try it in fresh water and look on-line at the battery change kits to see diameter of the o ring.
DAVID C I don't know. I suspect the technician who services my computer or Aeris could answer that question.

Aeris and Oceanic are owned by the same company and both dive computers are made by Pelagic.

I use my Aeris as a wrist mount (with the transmittor) so don't "know" if it will work as a console but I think it might be a bit large. I might think if you could get a console big enough and that wouldn't block off the depth sensor it might be OK? It also has a side button so you couldn't access that with the usual front button console design. Have you tried asking your local Aeris dealer? If you don't want the transmittor I'll have it :-)

Mauricio S Yes, you have to purchase the right console for the dimensions of the computer. Aeries also makes a console for the Elite T3 with a retractible laniard that clips to your BC.
BRENT F No, it will not fit in a console, because it has a button on the side. If you are not going to use the transmitter, then it's not the one to buy. The Atmos AI is a better choice.
VIATCHESLAV K It looks like you can remove computer from the wristband. My guess will be that it will fit into Aeris console, or any console of the same size. You still wil be able to use transmitter if you chose to.
RICHARD M I doubt it very much. Why would you want to anyway? When it comes to guages, redundency is the name of the game. Happy diving.
GEORGE J Yes, they make the pieces to turn this into a console mount. You need to buy them seperately. The transmitter still stays where it always did before. I have my computer mounted this way with a retractor.
BRENT F No, you cannot mount this in a console, there is a button on the side that you need access to. The Atmos AI would be a better choice. I have both and am very happy with each one. One is the backup for the other.

I've used this computer on many Dives and I love it. It's easy to use & read. I like the custom alarms and all the info you need at a glance. The computer interface / log book is also good. If you dive Nitrox, it's good to 100% many computers are not. I think it's a great value. I dive with an Oceanic BCD & Reg. Love them also. I can't tell you the differences between the two as I never used the Oceanic computer.

MARK K No difference. Oceanic and Aeris are both made in the same factory, different faceplates.
ANNA M I don't really know the differences between the two. I didn't really shop the Oceanic. The Aeris seemed to have all the features I wanted and we have been pleased with it. The transmitter did stop working last year on a dive trip (past the warranty period) but we sent it for service and it has been repaired for a reasonable price ($120) and seems to be fine now.
SAM R They are both great computer and basically the same because they are both made by the same company. Like Cadillac and Chevy with Oceanic being the Cadillac.
DOUGLAS K Sane computer. Aeris just costs less. Both made by pelagic pressure (Hollis).
CHRIS H They are nearly the same exact computer. The only differences are the way the data is laid out and I believe the VT3 shows a small air time remaining number in the bottom left. Algorithms are the same.
It really boils down to which one looks nicer to you. I went with the T3 but the VT3 is a very nice looking computer.
KELLY-ANNE M I'm not familiar with the vt3, I bought the Elite T3 as I was moving back home to Australia and things are stupid expensive here. When I bought the Elite about 18 months ago it was a last years/ end of run model so being sold off cheaper. I'd usually used Suunto's so I found the Elite non-intuitive. The Suunto's were switch on and go, you could tool around and eventually find your way. The elite took a lot of reading and internet searching for information, manual not good, couldn't get transmitter to connect initially, once that was sorted it's been fine. I use it for warm shallow diving, occasional nitrox. Not doing anything more challenging than that. I often dive with that and the suunto, suunto much more conservative but not enough to make a difference.
Sorry can't comment on the VT3...

Bruce H The comparable dive computer in both function and form is the Suunto Vyper Air, and at this moment they are even comparable in price, including with transmitter. The Vyper has the digital compass, which is excellent while the T3 does not. Other than that feature, they are almost the same.

SCOTTS S Unfortunately it does not have an integrated compass, but is overall a very nice computer and easy to use. I use a stand alone wrist strap compass in its stead. Hope this helps.
DAVID S It does not have a compass. I certainly haven't missed that feature, though I'm usually diving nice, warm, clear water.
I really love this computer. The customer service at Aeris is great, too. I took this to a local dive shop to have the battery and o-rings replaced. They broke it and claimed it wasn't their fault, and that since I bought it from Leisure Pro it wasn't under warranty. That was not true; Aeris sent me a replacement quickly and it has been functioning fine ever since.

WILLIAM D No it doesn't. You probable know the ones that do are about $2000.00 or more. For that price I keep my wrist compass on my same wrist. Most dives I do not use a compass anyway. It is a good unit. I bought two set ups one for my girlfriend. Had them for 4 year, no problems, changed batteries only once.

MARK S You don't set it for fresh vs. salt water.
Doing so is not at all useful, since it doesn't matter how deep you are. What matters is pressure. All dive tables are developed based on depth of seawater as a proxy for pressure, so if one were to use for example a tape measure for actual depth of freshwater the tables would not actually apply accurately.
I don't believe any computer allows such a setting, since it would not be consistent with published tables or algorithms and because it would be a potential point of failure: not resetting the computer for the current type of water could potentially pose a problem. Far better just to measure pressure (which is what computers do anyway) and report it in the universally-accepted arbitrary scale of depth of seawater.
DAVID M There is no setting for this change. I am aware of no significant difference in diving in fresh or salt water for parameters important to the dive computer.
GREG B Hello, I am not aware of any such setting or why you would need to change between Salt and Fresh. I've used this watch all of the past season ( In both Fresh water and Salt) and it worked flawlessly ! It's a great computer !

Nick G Are you able to check your gas supply in PSI while still on the surface (without getting the computer wet)?
MYRON C You can still check your air pressure even with the H2O activation turned ON. If the unit is on (ie. between dives), then it will show the PSI as it reads. If it isn't on (ie. before your first dive), then just push the A & B buttons to turn the unit on and your PSI will read (as long as you have the computer close enough to the transmitter)
CHRIS H Yes, once you turn the computer on, it will do it's quick self test and as long as you are within transmitter range, it will show your tank's pressure within a few seconds.
MICHAEL N Yes. The T3 monitors up to three different transmitters and you can check all 3 on the surface. I do recommend that you maintain a small backup SPG on your primary tank (experience!)

JIM F You open the tank valve to make sure the transmitter has a read on the tank pressure, and then manually activate the computer. The two units (transmitter and computer) need to be within three feet of each other, and close to parallel in vertical orientation (you should not be standing above the tank with computer, but rather sitting or holding the computer down level with the tank valve).
DAVID M Yes, you can. You must have the transmitter on the regulator and the regulator installed on the tank, plus the tank valve open. Turn on the wrist unit, it will startup then read the tank pressure. Sometimes it takes 10-20 seconds to 'find' the reading.
Sometimes, you may have to cycle to another screen and back to get the wrist unit to 'see' the new reading but I suspect this is more due to my lack of patience to wait.

CHAD G Yes, when the air is turned on from the tank the transmitter will start transmitting and as long as the computer is on and syned up w/ the tranmitter, at the correct frequency, you can read your gas supply. One note, make sure to hold the computer w/in 6 inches (I just hold mine right up against it) for a couples seconds after turning on to make sure it sync's up correctly. I wasn't doing that initially and couldn't figure out the problem...I also had a case where my computer picked up the frequency of another diver's transmitter on the boat and was unable to use it for the entire day (because I didn't have the manual and couldn't remember how to manually set the frequency).

DAN R No, if I am on the boat, I have to dip the computer in the water first to get it to register the PSI. in the manual it looked like there was a surface setting that would allow you to check the supply without getting the computer wet but I could never figure it out. Hope this helps- let me know if you have any other questions.

DAN R Might be my computer- I'll check it again on the next dive. It is not something that ever really bothered me too much since I just dip the computer into a rinse bucket on the boat to get it going. Either that or I just put it in the water alongside the boat while I am prepping my mask.
To answer your other question: I have never lost the signal to my own transmitter while diving with this computer. My wife has the exact same setup so I use the computer to monitor her air as well. Sometimes I will have to adjust my position or get closer while diving to pick up her PSI in buddy mode. For my own tank though, I have never had a problem.

CALVIN R Have never had a problem with losing the signal. I wear mine on a retractable on the front of my BC, so I pull it out in front of me to look at the readouts, which might make it more consistent.

Thanks for your last answer. I actually do have another concern. I will be using this dive computer for CAVE diving and am now starting to re-think it. I am wondering if the transmitter is built strong enough to not break if it hits the ceiling of a cave. That would be bad if it broke off during a cave dive. Also being on the HP port the gas would empty quite fast!
VITALY B Just connect the 1st stage with attached transmitter to the tank and open the tank valve. You will see the pressure right after that.

This computer is excellent. Easy to read and program. Only quirk is that the warning alarms are set for the more conservative profile. I want 1.4 limits so I set the computer at 1.6. Works perfectly.

RICK Z I have Lost signal a few times, but normally when hands are in front. Not an issue. I think my battery was getting weak. Changed battery and no problem.
KEVIN W Yes. When in either surface Normal or Gauge mode selecting the "S" button will cause the system to activate. This will display the tank pressure which is part of the Main display.
If you are using multiple tanks pressing and holding the "S" button for more than 2 seconds will cause a full status check of all batteries and tank pressures that are set for your use rather than as a buddy check.

KEVIN W It has not happened to me but it has to my wife who dives with the same computer. She said that a press of the S-button re-established the link. But that may have just been do to moving the computer.
According to the manual there are better and worse locations for the connection. There is a diagram on page 76 that shows what they mean.
The manual is available online in pdf format. An internet search should locate it for you.

MATT H Nope, it is a great computer. My wife works for Suunto and I have been getting heat for having the Aeris. So, I will probably sell at some point.
PRZEMYSLAW I Yes, we do it all the time after gear assembly to confirm the tank is full before entering the water.
You just press the left button and wait for the communication to be established between transmitter on the tank and the computer.
The pressure number blinks for a while and then stays solid when is read from the transmitter.
MICHAEL S Yes. You can turn on the computer by simply touching the 2 buttons at the bottom of the face. It does not have to be wet to be activated and read/display you gas info. You can go to the aeris website and read the owners manual as well which describes how to use the computer on predive checks and surface checks.
