Justin R When the bands are not stretched the shaft on mine wobbles all over, if this supposed to be magnetic and mine is just defective or what?
CHRISTOPHER H I've had mine for a couple of years now, and it has sustained some serious use and abuse without incident. As far as the shaft wobble, the shaft is secured to the gun with the plastic muzzle in the front and the trigger's release mechanism in the back. Every gun will have some play in it when it is not armed. If you are unsure if the amount of play you have in the shaft, I would recommend having a local dive shop check it out- safety first. Otherwise, it sounds like everything is fine; this is one of three JBL guns I own, and they have all been bulletproof.
Justin R Are you sure you are referring to the elite model? The elite model has an open end with nothing holding the spear end tight to the gun. The spear is able to list up several inches.
CHRISTOPHER H No- my apologies. My particular model is a closed-muzzle design. If yours has an open muzzle, it should still have play in it. The theory on the open muzzle design is to have less resistance on the shaft when firing, and to provide you with a better line of sight when shooting, especially on the longer guns. I still think your gun is fine, but again- the number one rule with the sport is safety first. I would recommend letting someone who is familiar with your gun take a look at it just to be safe. I'm sure you could send it back if you wanted to, but my thought is #1, its always great to connect with a local dive shop or spearfishing group just for the connection, and #2, it's much less down time to just have someone give it a quick once-over to make sure everything is as it should be vs. shipping it back. I'm not sure where you dive at, but I am on the east coast of FL where the water is warming back up and getting clear again- there's no way I would send it out with dive season around the corner.
Justin R Yeah I agree, I'm also on the east coast of FL. I dive Pompano Beach and Key Largo. I live in Boynton Beach though. I have brought it to every shop around and none of them have even seen the elite model. It seems to fire okay in the water but I was just worried about the amount of play w/ no bands attached that it may have a freak accident. Seems to be okay though, just thought I'd check to be sure though. Where do you dive?

KEVIN J Hi, I did have the JBL and unfortunately it was stolen. I didn't have your problem, but I did have another one. I couldn't get the shaft to lock back in correctly after it was fired. It was a real pain underwater. But the gun was stolen from me and I bought an AB Biller. Much better quality. I woudn't buy a JBL gun again. Biller worked perfectly.
DANNY Y No not defective, the string that connects the shaft to the gun is supposed to wrap up and over the muzzle of the gun to hold the shaft down onto the gun. It sounds to me like you are not stringing the gun up in the right way.
Louis L Does this speargun float on water?
BRIAN M It doesn't "float" with the spear in it, but if your looking in a rock and let go of the gun the spear tip will be in the sand and the butt will go vertical, but once you shoot something the gun will float..
JOSH M This gun will float after the shaft is fired. Effective range is 14 feet using standard shockline.
JAMES G The gun is slightly negative. It is close to neutrally buoyant, but if the spear shaft is not in the gun the stock will float.
TERRY J Yup, when it's loaded it'll float vertically with just the butt of the gun at the surface. When it's been shot, the whole gun floats easily.
DANNY Y The gun is near neutral bouyancy when spear shaft is in the gun, once you have fired the gun the wooden part of the gun will float above you as you remove and string the fish up. This is my experience in fresh water.
JOHN W The gun with the spear is neutral buoyancy. Perfect. Gun without spear- it floats. If you don't tether your spear, no problem. If you are under deep enough and the spear is tethered when you release it, the gun probably isn't going to get back to surface if you become separated from it.

CHRISTOPHER H Loved my JBL D7, but was looking for a little bit quieter gun for a stealthier approach. This gun did a great job. It has a bit less of a punch than the D7, but upgrading the bands fixed the issue.

Now all Woody series are featuring the new M-8 Trigger mechanism. Gun is equipped with the JBL515E Shock Line. Sometimes we miss or we shoot a large fish and the recoil can pull the gun out of your grip, which ever, the shock line will keep you in control. Guns range is14' (4.27 meters).
