Michael J How long is the "tether" from the gun to the shaft?
Also would you suggest this for CA "rockfish" hunting? I'm going to be doing alot tight rock hunting and need a durable gun / shaft.
I'm a first time speargun purchaser so need something simple but reliable that won't bust my bank.

DMITRY G Shock line on this gun has around 12 feet length (it is range).
For a first speargun I'd recommend to buy any European style gun in the same range of the price ($200), because they are much lightweight and have positive buoyancy in discharge condition, also simple and reliable.
BENNIE S This is simply the best Bang for Your Buck. Shoots like a canon and is really accurate really dependable. I have abused one for the last 20+ Years and it has served me well. I have 5 of them so if I get a dull tip or anything like a big fish on one I just take another one and let the guys on the boat deal with it. GREAT GUN
PHILLIP S I replaced the original tether with a coiled tether, the original one was about 12 feet. As for hunting rock fish in ca, is the reason I purchased since my dive has been using on for over 4 years and I was impressed by its performance in CA waters

GEOFFREY W Honestly I am not a fan of the 'cord' tether for all my guns. I have the telephone bungy cord replacement. They are reasonably priced and worth the hassle of having to deal with wrapping the cord everytime. I suggest over sizing it to the next size up to minimize the loss of some force.
I have three 38-specials and use them exclusivly for Rock, Ling, Cabizon and the occasional Greenling (my white whale).
My guns have been beat up on the rocks and are stillholding strong. I currently use two where one I modified with the next level of bands for additinoal strength and length, the third is still in its wrapper as a backup. My oldest is over five years old and is my old faithful that I take out first.
I say buy and be happy.

DUSTIN M No manual came with mine but any local dive shop will be able to help you out with it. You shouldnt need to disassemble it any time soon, they come put together and the bands last a fair amount of time.
ROBERT S Yes, there was a small manual, but you don't really need it. Usage is quite straight forward. Maintenance is just wash it down after use. YouTube has a few good instructional videos on how to use the speargun.

RICK H Adel, I purchcased this spear gun from Leasure Pro I think a year or two ago. I don't remember if it came with a maual. Using the spear gun is pretty straight forward you cock it by placing the handle end of the spear gun on your hip and pull back the bands one at a time until they hook into the grooves in the spear. Always use the safety switch. Depending on how much power and distance you need you can cock two or three bands. Hope this helps.
ANNA G Hi. I bought this for a boyfriend of mine that has since passed away. I can tell you that he loved this speargun and was very pleased with it. He picked it out and used it several times with much success and always traveled with it to use it. I'm not sure if it comes with a manual, if it doesn't you may be able to watch a video on YouTube that shows you. I'm sorry I can't better answer your question, hope this helps.

TODD V WITH THREE FRESH BANDS EFFECTIVE PENETRATION RANGE IS APPROXIMATELY 8 FEET. THINNER FISH SUCH AS RED SNAPPER, TRIGGERFISH, SHEEPSHEAD ARE APPROPRIATE. A LEGAL FORK LENGTH AMBERJACK IS TOO LARGE UNLESS AT POINT BLANK RANGE. NICE GUN FOR ITS SIZE.

I like this gun but i use it specifically for close range. With all 3 bands it's good for 20-25'. I shoot snapper, grouper, trigger.
BARRY A Maximum distance is about 15 feet, on a smaller fish. The farther a fish is away from the gun, the lower the penetration power left in the spear. If you shoot a large fish (6' long), you will need to be within 4 or 5 feet, and be ready to go for a ride, unless you actually hit the fish in the brain and "stone" it.
BEN P I measured 12 feet from wherever your trigger hand is, about 9.5 feet from the tip of the gun. Not sure of the max fish size, but it's gonna be big enough to handle anything you can handle while diving. The gun seems to shoot very straight and fast and is easy enough to arm while underwater. If your in the Tacoma, WA area your welcome to check mine out.
