Questions about this item:
j m So. I was trying the instructions, taking it apart, etc. It is a real bear to take apart, and so far I have only managed to put it back together lopsided... Am I making this harder than it needs to be, or is it just that hard to do? The instruction sheet is really minimal. THANKS
JOHN C Don't know what you mean by lopsided. The easiest thing would be for me to send pictures, but this response box won't allow that.
To open the Ikelite, push the small white tab toward the bulb portion of the light and while holding it in that position, slide the C-shaped locking ring upward about 1/4". (Not easy to do) The bulb portion of the light should easily slide out. There are two black battery holder parts. One has a small black post in the center. That battery holder is the BOTTOM holder and goes in the case first, BLACK POST DOWN. Next place the flashlight case in front of you, base down on the table with the black locking ring (C-shaped) to your left and in the open position. Now place the TOP black battery holder in the case with the small black round post facing up. The post should be to your right and away from you. (This is just to see how the batteries will be inserted). Now look at the tiny marks on the TOP battery holder to see the position of the + and - marks. Now, remove the TOP battery holder and place the batteries in the correct way corresponding to the + and - marks. Replace the TOP battery holder with the small round black post to your right and away from you. (If the black post is in the wrong position, the light won't close). Be sure that the C-shaped black locking ring is still in the unlocked position and to your left. Place the bulb holder portion in place with the on/off switch to your right. Press the bulb portion gently down until it seats completely, then slide the C-shaped locking ring to the right untill it "clicks". Hope this helps.
I've added larger + and - marks with a silver permanant marker. Also found that rechargeable batteries jam in this Ikelite. They are slightly larger in diameter than non-rechargeables. Tried a different brand of batteries, same problem. I have an older Ikelite that rechargeables fit in, so I think they molded the new cases slightly smaller. Bummer.
j m John - I apologize for my delay in responding to your kind assistance. Your explanation was spot-on. After a couple of tries, it works very well. I did find that the tiny metal contact plates fall out very easily, and have gotten adept at putting them back in. Thanks for your help.
PAUL L Yes it is difficult to figure out basis any other u/w light I've ever owned before. Trick is to push white tab on top forward and pull up on black plastic collar at same time. This will release the front end. Good luck.
My subsequent problem was that on first dive with this light was down at only about 55 feet when I heard a pop from my chest area. First thought was problem with bcd inflator. Looked down to see that batteries and front end had all popped out and were lying on the coral below. Only had the case hanging on to clip on bcd D ring.
Have returned to Ikelite and awaiting new light or refund.
j m That's an interesting problem - - I had tried to research this light prior to purchase, and always hope to find problems...
j m Does this light have a loop or such to hook a retractable line to?
DAVID B Yes. It also has a wrist strap.
WARREN Q The light has a lanyard loop on the lower back side. It's too small for a clip, so you will have to use a split ring to clip on to. Warren
THOMAS S It comes with a rubber lanyard that can installed thru an opening provided in the hard plastic flashlight case. I have had the lanyard split after it has aged so I would not place alt of trust in it. I recommend installing some parachute-type cord thru the flashlight case opening, instead.
j m Thanks - I appreciate the detailed answer. It sounds like a good light; my current light is a 'flashlight' style and size, so a smaller one will be nice.
JAMES S Yes, it has a small eye on the butt end for attaching a lanyard.
ROBERT N yes, there is a hole in the case at the rear (bottom) to insert (and loop) a lanyard that can be connected to a retractable...
nice light - battery insertion is a bit screwie...
JERRY W Yes. The molded plastic comes out about a 1/4 of an inch and has a whole in itt to attach to. I have 3 of these lights and they are great
MARY B Yes, a 4" loop and a 1" tether to hook onto
PETER G Yes, the same loop the wrist strap goes through
VERY GOOD unit - ample brightness
Divemaster in Lembeh used it, so I got one and love it.
Shopper Is the light intensity adjustable or is it just ON and OFF?
THOMAS B It's just on and off. Really good light and very bright. I use it as a primary. and my back ups are the ikelights like this PCm but with less lumins. One set of batteries lasts me all week with a couple of night dives and some wreck penetrations.
JEFFREY M It has 3 modes: On, Off, and Explode. The unit leaked, filling with salt water. As i opened it to find out why it wasn't working, it exploded, spewing battery acid on my face and clothes.
Leisure Pro didn't help me but Ikelite did replace the unit. Can't wait to try it again!
CHERYL D The light is on or off. It is not adjustable
JAMES O It is only ON/OFF.
DALE F It is just on or off. That being said, my sister and I each have one and LOVE them! They are small enough to carry in one hand with the ability to use a second tool. My sister uses it with her camera setup. Also, if it is too bright, eg night, etc, you can easily partialy cover the lens with your fingers. We used ours with Mandarine fish that are notoriously shy of lights.
STAN H No adjustment, just on and off.
Shopper What are the dimensions of this light?
LeisurePro S This light is 2x4 inches.

Whats in the box:Light and Instruction Manual Ikelite's 2nd Generation LED lights contain sophisticated circuitry and heat sink technology to ensure that they stay bright throughout its lifetime. Other lower cost lights run unregulated, reducing overall light output with extended use and limiting the lifespan of the LED. A specially designed lens concentrates these exceptionally bright LEDs to form a powerful and penetrating spot beam. Many divers prefer the natural looking light of white LEDs. Ikelite selected the highest quality 5-watt 205 lumens white LEDs for maximum brightness and durability. Ikelite's highly efficient drivers yield an LED lifespan of 50 - 100 times the life of standard incandescent lamps, making replacement bulbs virtually obsolete. LED lights burn 2 1/2 to 3 times longer (5 hour burn time) on a set of 4 "AA" alkaline/Ni-MH batteries than their halogen counterparts. Less frequent battery replacements help both your pocketbook and the environment. These LEDs maintain their maximum brightness level much longer and without the low-battery "dimming "effects of traditional lights. The PCm LEDs run cool and can be used for extended periods of time above water-making them the perfect choice for every adventure. When the batteries are drained, the LED lights continue to emit a lower intensity output for hours or even days-long after incandescent lights have quit. This extended illumination period can make all the difference in an emergency situation. Light is rated to the depth of 300' (90 meters). Light measures 2" x 4" (50 x 101 mm) and comes with an Instruction Manual.
