My name is Rob, thank you for taking the time to review my questions. This BC seems almost perfect for me, but I do have a few questions. I have loved my Sherwood Magnum non weight integrated BC, but sold it a year ago as I was going to be unable to dive due to a knee surgery.
I can no longer find the non weight integrated for sale, but heard that this Genesis is made by Sherwood, and it sure looks like my old Magnum.
Really only 2 questions. One, is it positive or negative buoyant? And two, will it accept the Sherwood BCD octo?

not too sure about the buoyancy of the bc.. it does come with a lpi that fits it, i stil use the aqualung one i had before and it fits, i must say this bcd is sturdy exept for the back plate which is crap i use it now whith a cracked backplate just make the top safetystrap keep it tight to the tank , there isnt even a way to change it because it is not with screws but has been sewed (as in thresad and needle)
its a pity cuz the rest of the bc is perfect (exept for deflator valve that looses air here and then....)
BRENDA L To answer your first question, I would have to say it is neutrally buoyant. As far as answering your second question, most of the power inflater hoses are universal and fit several BCDs But I can't answer that question for sure. It would probably be best to contact the manufacturer of the octo to make sure.

Don`t buy it! I own a small dive operation in Cozumel, Mexico. I bought 4 of them for rentals when they were on sale. The tank holder on the back is made of hard plastic. Three of the four BCDs that I bought broke! The plastic tank holder snaps in half. The first time it happened I was wearing it thank goodness. My tank flopped around wildly the whole dive. The Genesis Cobra is defective. I sent the first one back and Genesis repaired it. It took a long time to turn around. The second and third ones that broke I had my boat captain buy aluminum plates and he drilled holes into the hard plastic to screw down the plates to hold it together. Every 6 months or so I have to have him fix it again. Don`t buy this BCD
Get a Sherwood. The Sherwood BCD have sturdier backpacks. I own a few of those too.

DAVID W I am not sure how much this will help you but here goes: I bought this BCD in size 2XL in June, 2010. I am 6 ft tall, weigh 280 lbs and have a 54 inch chest. It fit me with room to spare, so I would say it is a little on the large size. Great piece of equipment for the money. I have used it at Cocos Island (easy diving), the Galapagos (in and out of zodiacs without a ladder) and Truk (wreck diving), so it will get the job done no matter the dive conditions. I even use it spearfishing because it is so durable, even though it is not really a spearfishing rig.
ANTE H Hi,
the main thing is your bust to waist measures. While this BC has some adjustable straps, you need a comfortable fit that is not too roomy. I think medium would be ok but best bet is to try a BC somewhere local or friend's to get a better idea.

Dave B Can I simply put 2 5lb soft weights (lead shot bags) (one each pocket) for weight ?....They look big enough to fit and less is more where I hunt for game. Thanks
JOSE B Yes you could i only uses 2pounds on each pokect but it depend if u uses steel or aluminun tanks
BRENDA L Yes. The 5 lb. lead shot pouches will fit.
MARK H The simple answer is yes. I believe this is how the BC was designed. the side pockets are huge and the zipper is massive. Makes it easy to open, even fully geared up and down on the hunt. Also, there are two trim weight pockets, one on each side of the tank bracket up by your shoulders. I am sure these will only hold small weights. Not much use to me. All and All, a great BC for the price.
BRIAN G Should fit just fine. I hunt as well but strictly with a weight belt
only and steal tank after trying integrated weights. Great BC for
hunting tough and D rings!
JAMES W Yeah the pockets are big enough to put a few weights in them, but the only problem i have found with it is that the pockets are towards more of the front so you basically do nose dives! I would prefer if it had pockets on the back side as well so you stand verticle in the water, but this vest keeps you horizontal even if you try, you use so much energy trying to stand up with the weights trying to pull your front down.

ALISON D I don?t know. I put it on the bathroom scale and it didn?t register. I am guessing around 5 to 6 pounds.
GEORGE M W My bath room scale says 4.6 lbs, that seems about right. I have used the BCD on 20+dives and am quite pleased with it , definitely a good buy for the price.
JAYME M The genesis BC is about 8-10 pounds. It isn't cumbersome when you transport it to the boat or shore, and easy to place on a tank even with the trim weight pockets filled. Hope this helps.

For my size, what is the lift capacity of the BCD?
Also, How much does this BCD weigh? would you recommend taking it on vacation?

ROBERT K There is a sizing chart available. It is not weight integrated so you will need to use a separate weight belt. My guess would be a Medium if you are wearing a thick wetsuit or drysuit perhaps a large
ALISON D You would wear a medium. I don?t konw the lift capacity of the BCD but it doesn?t weight a lot so it is OK for vacation.
