Questions about this item:
Brian C How many cubic feet is the tank? How much does it weigh? How does its size compare to the old steel 72s? Can you get the tank with Genesis brand K valves, which are my favorite for carrying?
WILLIAM W Brian C,
Faber Blue Steel Low Pressure 2400 psi +10
85 cu ft
7 inch outer diameter
Triple Finish
26 inch long without valve
31 pounds empty
0 Buoyancy empty with valve
-6.7 buoyancy full
I recently went to a side mount configeration with a Hollis BCD/Rig.
I started with steel 100s and they were too heavy, the Rig didn't provide enough buoyancy to get my head out of the water. The 85s are perfect. I love them.
Hope this helps in your quest.
Bill W
TOM K The one I purchased was a 108 cubic foot size - Faber makes several sizes. I purchased the low pressure only after my DSAT course as its capable to overpressure the tank slightly and increase the effective CF size. I've never used a steel 72 - so I can't address the size - but you can look at the Blue Steel web page for the tank measurements and weight. The low pressure 108 is 41lbs empty.
BTW - I searched for months for my steel tanks - and didn't find a price near what I got at LeisurePro - just a shameless plug, as with the free shipping it was a great deal.
STEVEN J If you compare these to alum 80's well there is no compairison. As doubles with on a hot day with a long walk and a beach entry, keep your 72's. Off a boat as doubles the extra air is nice. As singles with a BC perfect!!!
Brian C 1. How many cubic feet of air does the tank hold at basic fill (2400 lbs.) and 10% (2640 lbs.) overfill?
2. What are the dimensions of the tank in inches?
3. How much does the tank weigh?
4. Is it available with Genesis K valves?
Brian C Steven,
You never answered my questions:
How many cubic feet of air does the tank hold?
How much does it weigh?
What are its physical dimensions?
Is it larger of smaller than the old steel 72s?
Can it be purchased with Genesis brand K valves, which are great for carrying tanks?
Brian
Richard H 8" diameter, from bottom of tank to top of tank where valve starts is 27'. what is the cf?
Richard H And it is a 2400 psi tank
Shopper Do these tanks come with a new hydro/vip?
MICHAEL S yes current hydro but you need get vip from where you fill air from.
RYAN F No. You don't need a hydro with a new tank but you will need to take it to a shop and get a vip or 02 cleaned. AWESOME tanks btw!
Shopper What is the the buoyancy of the Faber Tanks?
LeisurePro S They range from -3.7(empty)/-8.45(full) for the 72 liter to -7.22(empty)/-16.22(full) for the 120 liter.
Shopper Is the rated pressure 2400 lbs, and does it have 10% over rating
LeisurePro S Yes these are rated for the 10% overfill. 2400 psi working pressure, 2640 psi fill pressure.
Shopper What type of valves are on these tanks? Are they DIN/Yolk Convertable?
LeisurePro S This tank comes standard with a DIN style valve. Any DIN to yoke converter will work on this tank (ie product OMSYA).
Shopper for recreational diving what is recomended high or low pressure tanks
LeisurePro S Either HP or LP will work, but more people seem to prefer low pressure tanks. They are easier to blend gases in (if you are doing mixed air diving), but also, more filll stations are able accomodate low pressure tanks. It can be difficult to get a HP fill at some more remote fill stations.

Whats in the box:Faber Tank, Din/K type Valve, Tank Boot. If you are not using steel cylinders, try to use one and you will soon realize what you have been missing. Faber can offer you the most comprehensive range of cylinders for Scuba Diving. Every year we produce and sell around the world 100.000 cylinders for scuba diving (out of 600.000 in totals). No other manufacturer in the world can match our capabilities and the breadth of our range. Faber Tanks and valves are nitrox ready. Cylinders come equipped with a DIN/K type valve that easily converts back and forth depending on the type of First-Stage Regulator to be used in conjunction with the cylinder increasing the versatility of the tank. Steel cylinders are heavier then the same capacity aluminum cylinder. This characteristic has many advantages. The heavier construction allows the diver to remove lead weight from their weight belt or integrated weight system of the BCD, allowing the diver to better distribute weight by moving it to the rear of the BCD a great advantage when wearing a back inflation style (Wing) BCD. Aluminum cylinders as we breathe the weight of air from them create positive buoyancy at or near the end of a dive. The steel cylinder with its negative buoyancy throughout the dive allows you to shed the excess lead that is required to keep you properly trimmed while you dive an aluminum cylinder. Faber LP cylinders have a round bottom and come equipped with a cylinder boot.

The steel cylinders are manufactured at Worthington Cylinder's state of the art facility in Tilbury, Canada. The cylinders are manufactured using the Deep Draw and Ironing (DDI) process. Cylinders start from a circular plate of chrome-moly steel. Multiple draws on a hydraulic press transform the plate into an open ended shell. The shell is then closed, the neck is formed and the threads are machined. The DDI process produces the most consistence wall thickness resulting in the lightest weight, most efficient cylinders... more
