Shopper Can it be use to find the dive boat when you are underwater?
Marilyn S The H22PX would not be capable of locating your dive boat when you are underwater. You may get a distance reading if you were a few feet away likely you would not get a depth reading if you point the transducer towards the water surface.
STANLEY S If you need this to find the dive boat you have a problem of zero visibility. A great device to check depth,before you try to look at your depth gauge at the bottom. I have a habit of wondering how deep is that spot. Brought it to Hawaii ,but on a wreck at 80 feet ,75 ft visibility,what am I to point it at? In Cozumel at 130 wanted to point it all over to an endless depth,but have to safely keep with the group in fast moving currents. So a great item.If you need it to save your life, you have no common sense. Stan

STANLEY S I think its a wonderful tech item at a very fair price ,Its ability is only linked to your sonar education and your ability to adapt it to your needs. It will not hold your hand and or read your mind, For the price and one more head project for yourself, go for it and let the rest of us know how you did,I purchased it only because I am curious how deep is the bottom under me in clear water ,like in Cozumel 150 Ft vis,I had to get out of the habit of having to go touch the spot and look at my depth gauge,Then say to my self what the hell im sucking air with nothing better to do! Your idea deserves credit!
JONATHAN F Yes and no. If you create a grid and take pin point measurments you can use a mapping program like ArcView to create your own map but it would be labor intensive.
There are sonar mapping units available that can create 3-D images but the technology is not inexpensive.
I am not aware of any hand-held units that will allow you to do this for less than a couple thousand dollars.
THOMAS P It is possible so long as you know how to create a sounding diagram as well as topography mapping. This product only gives depth at user defined points.
