Questions about this item:
Michele D There are very few reviews on this BC. 4 in total including yours. I would like to know about the tank positioning. There were 2 complaints about the tank hitting the back of the head even after repositioning. Is this true. And I don't under the word "unstable" when turning from side to side. What does that mean. Did the BC shift because of the weight of the tank or something like that?
NANCY C Hi Michele..... I love my Bcd. With bcd you have to make sure u r correctly weighted. The straps on the bcd that goes across can be tighten to your body figure with no problem. With all equipment you have to get use to it and know all it's features. I find it very easy to travel with as a carryon bag and also easy to maintain. The best in travel bcd. I would put my heavy weights on the top weight pocket that's attach to the strap to tank and the lighter ones on the side pockets. I hope I answered your questions.
KEES E I had no issues with the tank hitting me in the head. My balance issue is that with a single strap, and a small pad on the BC proper, i experienced some tank roll. What I mean is that when I moved side to side underwater, the tank wobbled, causing some instability.
MAX W I would agree with the com plaints about the tank positioning being high. I have mine maxed out as tight as the adjustment strap goes (making the BC ride as high as possible) and still have occasional issues bumping my head on the valve. It would be an easy fix to simply shorten the strap a bit.
I have not had any issues with the tank shifting at all (I've dropped it once in ~35 dives)
ROBERT M Michele,
I love this BCD. There are many new lightweight travel BCD's available, but I live in remote alaska and cannot put my hands on them. The dealer up here was trying to get them in stock, but could not. i went solely on the few reviews I could find and Brett H's from LP's recommendation and made the decision to get it.
No extra pockets for stuff.
It does have limitations due to it's size, but I learned in the Navy with a horse collar. I have had other BDC's over the years, but this is the best to date.
It has some adjustments to customize the fit. I have heard it tends to roll, inherent with the wing design as flotation is in the back? I got used to it by securing jacket and slowly rolling so I don't even notice. Also, perhaps those others put weight in tank pockets, maybe too much? Therefore, increasing the roll. These weight pockets can be rotated towards the BCD limiting profile.
I like the wights in the front pocket for diving, but while sitting on the surface waiting fr a buddy, and holding a heavy camera, I was quite uncomfortable, but breaking out my snorkel would have fixed that! Ha!
It is important to wet the tank strap as the tank will slide when walking if the strap is dry. I simply took a wet rag and got it wet .... easy.
I was able to put the tank strap high enough that it did not hit me in the head, even when I did a pike surface dive.
Other BCD's have a second strap near the bottom to give additional securing, but I would think that may limit my movement when photographing.
Hope this helps,
Bob
Michele D Thanks! I travel a lot and I already have an Oceanic Chute II. Great for diving. Love it. Great for diving in cool to cold water but a bit heavy when travelling and with all these travel restrictions. So I am looking into buying a lighter BC, even though I don't want to. The airline weight restrictions are getting harder for me to meet.
Again thanks for opnion. I really appreciate it.
