Questions about this item:
Shopper It is 80 cf, what is the H20 cubic inch conversion? Using a scale that requires the cubic inch conversion. Can you help me out?
ALAN C The Water Capacity of this tank is 678 cubic inches according to the manufacturer. Water can not be compressed.
Air Capacity (compressed to 3000 PSI) is 77.4 cubic feet or 133,747.2 cubic inches.
Miyuki S Volume is defined by the internal dimensions of the tank measured in cubic inches of water. Capacity is defined by the amount of breathing gas the scuba tank will hold at its maximum rated service pressure.
For this tank:
Volume (water) is 80 Cubic Feet = 138240 Cubic Inches
Capacity (gas) @3000PSI is 77.4 Cubic Feet = 133747.2 Cubic Inches
TERRY R IS THIS TANK DIN COMPATABLE AND RATED TO 3500PSI?
ANTONY M The Pro valve is din compatable by removing the plug however the tank is a standard aluminum 80cuft tank rated at 3000psi
Ron P Terry,
Well, Yes and No. The valve that came with the tank is a convertable K valve. It has a Yoke Insert that can be removed for a DIN First Stage.
However, this is a standard 80 cuft AL tank, DOT certified for a maximum of 3000 psi. It cannot be filled to 3500 psi.
Hope this helps,
JENNIFER P I know it has a din valve but not sure on the psi rating..
Hope this helps...
Jaime T Is the no pint sanded a brushed aluminum or different? please explain if different.
Thank You
Jaime
VITO A Jaime,
Sorry to take so long to answer your. question. It is clear-coated brushed aluminum. The reason I went with this over a painted tank is, I think it will look better for a longer period of time. The painted tanks get chipped from being lifted into the back of my truck, boat, etc. I did it only for personal taste. Hope this helps.
Frank L Brushed has a different finish than sanded. Sanded is just the Bare Aluminum. Brushed will have lines from the manufacturing. Shot blast will have dimples from being shot blast.
GARY A I have a painted model. I do not have a no paint tank. Sorry.
BRUCE L Not sure, I ordered the shot Blast and it has a sanded finish
Shopper I'm trying to decide what to get. Why did you pick this one?
DENNIS H Bought two in 2008 because it looked like a good value. Two of our boys go out a couple of times a year and have never had any problems.
== = I chose that type of tank because I had steel tanks that had a rust problem and couldnt find anyone to tumble them, the aluminums dont have this issueI also picked the bare alumium instead of other colors hoping it can be more visable in silty conditions. I hope this has been of help, Kevin
KRISTINE M I bout it for price and color. I have had no complaints about it yet. Matter of fact I bought two of them.
STEVEN M I'm not sure what you mean? At one time I had 5 of their tanks. Purple, Red, Blue, 2 Yellow, & Pink. The Catalina tanks are excellent. We dove in quarries in upstate Ohio and we took all of our own gear with us. They hold up great. Hope that helps.
STEVE E It was a good tank at a good price. I have a half a dozen of them.
MARVIN S Good size and color for my wife.
Shopper Can I use this tank with both air and nitrox, for example today I use air and tomorrow nitrox, and so on. Or if I start using it with air it will stop being nitrox compatible? I know that nitrox compatible tanks have a sticker or a mark on them that tells a diver they are for nitrox, but can they also be used with air, and If so then why not all tanks are nitrox ready?
ALAN L There are a number of viewpoints. In industrial situations any hyperoxic gas mix may be treated as pure oxygen, others suggest that 23.5% oxygen is the limit. For scuba purposes it is generally recommended that any mix with greater than 50% oxygen is treated as pure oxygen and that any equipment which may be exposed to a mixture with greater than 40% oxygen be oxygen compatible and made oxygen clean prior to use.
When considering which pieces of equipment may be exposed to high percentages of oxygen remember that pure oxygen may be pumped into your cylinder during nitrox fills. Thus cylinders, pillar valves and hoses used for gas transfer should all be prepared for oxygen service.
Regulators and ancillary equipment which may come into contact with the mixture from the cylinder should be prepared to work with the percentage of oxygen in the final mix. For mixes with less than 40% oxygen it is not regarded as essential to have this equipment made oxygen clean, however, it is up to you. It won't hurt to have it done, after all isn't everything
we do in preparing for a dive about being safe rather than sorry.Use the tank
for one or the other or have it cleaned, before going back to nitrox.
ALAN C Equipment intended for Nitrox use must be specially cleaned before being placed into service in order to prevent fire or explosion caused by the higher oxygen content in Nitrox. Nitrox with its higher oxygen content can explode when it comes into contact with oils or other contaminates under pressure. Once the equipment is specially cleaned it is marked for Nitrox use. If you then use the Nitrox ready equipment with standard air mix later, it must be specially cleaned again before being used again for Nitrox use. Because of this, most people dedicate their Nitrox equipment for "Nitrox Use Only" once properly cleaned and marked. Best practice is to not switch back and forth. Doing so puts you and others at serious risk.
JOHN S Hey There,
You can either use it for air OR nitrox. Once it is O2 cleaned, you can't use it for air and then back to nitrox. They come cleaned for nitrox, and I would think that most tanks are nitrox ready. The issue is the corrosion that the additional o2 can lead to. This tank is nitrox ready! I have a couple of these, and there are no issues. After the initial inspection, (VIP) you can have it filled nitrox and throw a sticker on it to designate it as such. You can't mix reg air and nitrox mainly due to safety issues, and o2 corrosion. Bottom times and surface intervals are much diff for each mixture. Hope this helps!
STEVEN M Because of the purity of the oxygen required in a nitrox mix you really can't go back and forth without a lot of hassle. From what I understand it's one or the other for a given tank. Hope this helps. Check your enriched air course book. I'm sure it explains it in there.
Jason P What is the expected service life of aluminum tanks?
ANTONY M The life of an aluminum tank will depend on how well it is taken care of. most shops in our area will not fill any tanks that are pre 1988 this is because the alloy that was used at that time by every tank manufaturer except Catalina. Catalina has always used 6061 aluminum. All manufactures are now using 6061. I personally have two 1976 tanks that have passed hydro and Visual Eddie current testing i still use them but very seldom. that said 20 to 30 years should be the max service life for an aluminum tank as it will have been overpressured during hydro six times as long as you take care of them they will last this long. Exposure to salt water and not being cleaned will shorten the life span of the tanks.
TOM M I have had my two tanks serviced every year and they need to be pressured tested after 5-years, I have not asked about how long they last - but mine still look brand new.
SHAWN B Your lifetime! Will outlast the k-valve. Be sure to have both your tank and k-valve inspected anually.
JONATHAN H I don't know exactly how long they're supposed to last but I bought mine five years ago and just had it hydro-tested. The test revealed that it is as good as new and ready for many more years of diving. As long as you keep water out of it and service it regularly it should last a VERY long time.
JASON M I have had this tank since 2007 and it has worked fine for me. My only complain is the valve isn't real comfortable to carry. Friend of mine bought another, more expensive, tank and his is alot easier to carry. OTherwise it holds air and has pasted inspection every year.
JACOB B Tanks are required by law to be hydrostatically tested and visually tested every 5 years. Most people, myself included, feel it is a good idea to have them visually inspected every year when you take the rest of your gear in for maintenance and service. As to the life of the tank, as long as you maintain it properly through inspections and changing of o-rings on the valve, the tank will last many many years. I have been using the same tanks for close to 10 years and I do not see any reason I cant use them for many more. If I were a dive operator my tanks may see a shorter life span just due to use and abuse but as a personal user I can take good care of mine. I hope that answers your question.
Chance.
Shopper hi, does this tank meet the australian standards?
MARTIN S What are the 'Australian' standards?...the tank is hydro-tested at the time of manufacture and then has to be retested every 5 years. You have to get it visually inspected when you receive the tank and then once every year after that.
Monica s There is a way that it can be, if you would like to email me directly I can send you the info monicas@leisurepro.com
bobby j Can this tank be used with a air fill station paintball scuba yoke adapter?
Brett H Very well put Acey.
ACEY J Yes! I used to run a field and used scuba tanks just for that purpose. The downside is that most HP paintball tanks are rated for 4500 Psi where scuba tanks are 3000 Psi. Also, you'll need more than one tank to consistently get full fills. Using a cascade method I used four tanks to fill numerous tanks over a day.
Shopper How much i can stay under that the water with this?
SCOTT A Hi, THIS IS A GREAT PURCHASE!! THE VALVE CAN BE USED AS A YOKE OR DIN REGULATOR. DEPENDING ON YOUR ACTUAL DEPTH DEPENDS ON YOUR BOTTOM TIME WITH THIS EQUIPMENT. IT IS 3000 LBS OF PRESSURE IN 80 CUBIC FOOT CYLINDER. I CURRENTLY OWN 25 OF THESE CYLINDERS.
Shopper What is the difference between a PRO valve and a DIN valve ?(I need the DIN)
ANTONY M the Pro valve is a a yoke valve with an insert. remove the insert and it is a din valve. i own 3 of them The pro valve is a K-valve.
JACK A This tank has a K-Valve not a DIN valve. Are you using this to fill a PCP air gun? If so you can buy fill adapters to fit the K-Valve.
EMMETT T A DIN Valve is the one with the yoke as opposed to the thread in connection. Most recreational divers use the DIN valve. The Catalina tanks I bought and the one pictured here have the DIN valves. Good Luck.
Shopper What color tank is in the picture?
noel b I currently live in Venezuela .. and want to know if when you do the shipping of the cylinder is empty ...no air inside ... thanks
LeisurePro S The electric blue option is pictured.
Shopper When comparing an aluminum tank to steel what factors should I consider before deciding which one to buy?
LeisurePro S This really depends on personal preference and what type of diving you are doing. Steel tanks are generally high pressure tanks and have larger fill pressures, but are heavier and more expensive than aluminum. Steel tanks will last virtually forever if well maintained, but since they are high pressure, often require DIN valves. Aluminum tanks are lightweight, cheaper, and more commonly used by the recreational diver. They generally have smaller fills, but only by a few hundred psi.
Shopper What is the difference between the 'shot blast' and 'sanded no paint' options?
LeisurePro S Neither the 'shot blast' and 'sanded no paint' have paint. The 'sanded no paint' has a surface that has been sanded giving the tank a brushed finish. The Shot Blast has a bead blasted finish and is a more even looking finish.
Shopper What pressure are these tanks rated?
LeisurePro S This tank is rated to 3000 psi (200 bar).
Shopper What type of boot from your store will fit this tank?
LeisurePro S Here is a tank boot that will fit this tank.
Shopper Do they need a vis or hydro test or are they ready to go when I get them?
LeisurePro S We cannot ship a closed tank, so you will need to get a HV test done when you recieve the tank. The tank is gaurenteed to pass, or it is eligiable for a full exchange.
Shopper Can these tanks take regular air and nitrox, or are they just nitrox only?
LeisurePro S For use with either air or nitrox.
Shopper You have available the colour "Clear" ....is this shot blasted or fully brushed with a coat of clear lacquer?? secondly ...can you confirm the valve will fit the standard yoke fitting..
LeisurePro S It is a clear lacquer. And, yes, this will fit standard yoke fittings. K-valve is just the technical name of this feature.
Shopper are these tanks hydro and visual ready?
LeisurePro S Tanks are current but visual inspections are required to be done prior to filling only and cannot ship that way. We guarantee the tank will pass or it will be replaced.
Shopper Are these tanks stamped with both DOT and TC (transport canada) #'s. They need to be TC stamped to be filled up here.
Shopper how long can you stay under water with this tank
LeisurePro S How long a diver can stay down depends on many things such as the specific person, water temp, depth etc. This is the most popular size scuba tank and yeilds many divers dives of 30-45 mins.
Shopper how many cubic liters is this tank?
Whats in the box:80 Aluminum Tank, Convertible Pro Valve The Staple cylinder in the diving industry is the 80 Cubic Foot Aluminum Tank. This cylinder is used by more divers' dive operators and retail dive stores than any other type of cylinder available. With K Pro Valve, the K Pro Valve is one of the highest flow cylinder valves available today and is also a convertible valve. Whether you dive Yoke or DIN regulators this valve will work for both. Valve has easily removed 200 bar DIN insert to convert the valve for use with DIN regulators. Valve has a heavy duty deign with a smooth operating mechanism and multi-ported burst disc plug for added safety. Aluminum cylinders unlike steel cylinders don't rust, they oxidize. The oxidization of aluminum forms a protective coat that hinders the continuation of corrosion making aluminum cylinders less likely to be condemned due to excessive corrosion. When shipped the tanks valves will be removed and the tank will require re-inspection before being filled. All Catalina cylinders are nitrox Ready.

Do you own painted cylinders that are all scratched up from your diving activities? If you are looking for a cylinder that won't show wear than you are looking for a shot blast finish cylinder. Shot blast actually will give you a better air fill since it does not have a painted finish that acts like a thermos bottle. Any paint or coating over a cylinder insulates the cylinder and will hold temperature longer than a non-finished cylinder. Great size for multiple diver use when being used as a stage bottle for deep diving activities, and is also a great primary youth cylinder... more

Catalina's Neutrally Buoyant 80 cu ft (10.3 liter) Aluminum Cylinder has a working pressure of 3300 psi (228 bars) and is negatively buoyant when full -5.9 lbs (-2.68 kg) and is nearly neutral when empty -0.2 lbs (-0.09 kg). The advantage of a cylinder that is near neutral buoyancy at the end of a dive is that you can shed a pound or two from your weight belt or BCD pockets. Dimensionally the cylinder is the same as the standard 80 cu ft 3000 psi (11.1 liter) tank, but does not have the positive buoyancy of +4.1 lbs (+1.86 kg) when empty. The Neutrally Buoyant 80 cu ft (10... more
