Ron P Terry, Well, Yes and No. The valve that came with the tank is a convertable K valve. It has a Yoke Insert that can be removed for a DIN First Stage. However, this is a standard 80 cuft AL tank, DOT certified for a maximum of 3000 psi. It cannot be filled to 3500 psi. Hope this helps,

VITO A Jaime, Sorry to take so long to answer your. question. It is clear-coated brushed aluminum. The reason I went with this over a painted tank is, I think it will look better for a longer period of time. The painted tanks get chipped from being lifted into the back of my truck, boat, etc. I did it only for personal taste. Hope this helps.

Frank L Brushed has a different finish than sanded. Sanded is just the Bare Aluminum. Brushed will have lines from the manufacturing. Shot blast will have dimples from being shot blast.

STEVEN M I'm not sure what you mean? At one time I had 5 of their tanks. Purple, Red, Blue, 2 Yellow, & Pink. The Catalina tanks are excellent. We dove in quarries in upstate Ohio and we took all of our own gear with us. They hold up great. Hope that helps.

ALAN L There are a number of viewpoints. In industrial situations any hyperoxic gas mix may be treated as pure oxygen, others suggest that 23.5% oxygen is the limit. For scuba purposes it is generally recommended that any mix with greater than 50% oxygen is treated as pure oxygen and that any equipment which may be exposed to a mixture with greater than 40% oxygen be oxygen compatible and made oxygen clean prior to use. When considering which pieces of equipment may be exposed to high percentages of oxygen remember that pure oxygen may be pumped into your cylinder during nitrox fills. Thus cylinders, pillar valves and hoses used for gas transfer should all be prepared for oxygen service. Regulators and ancillary equipment which may come into contact with the mixture from the cylinder should be prepared to work with the percentage of oxygen in the final mix. For mixes with less than 40% oxygen it is not regarded as essential to have this equipment made oxygen clean, however, it is up to you. It won't hurt to have it done, after all isn't everything we do in preparing for a dive about being safe rather than sorry.Use the tank for one or the other or have it cleaned,before going back to nitrox.

ALAN C Equipment intended for Nitrox use must be specially cleaned before being placed into service in order to prevent fire or explosion caused by the higher oxygen content in Nitrox. Nitrox with its higher oxygen content can explode when it comes into contact with oils or other contaminates under pressure. Once the equipment is specially cleaned it is marked for Nitrox use. If you then use the Nitrox ready equipment with standard air mix later, it must be specially cleaned again before being used again for Nitrox use. Because of this, most people dedicate their Nitrox equipment for "Nitrox Use Only" once properly cleaned and marked. Best practice is to not switch back and forth. Doing so puts you and others at serious risk.

JOHN S Hey There, You can either use it for air OR nitrox. Once it is O2 cleaned, you can't use it for air and then back to nitrox. They come cleaned for nitrox, and I would think that most tanks are nitrox ready. The issue is the corrosion that the additional o2 can lead to. This tank is nitrox ready! I have a couple of these, and there are no issues. After the initial inspection, (VIP) you can have it filled nitrox and throw a sticker on it to designate it as such. You can't mix reg air and nitrox mainly due to safety issues, and o2 corrosion. Bottom times and surface intervals are much diff for each mixture. Hope this helps!

STEVEN M Because of the purity of the oxygen required in a nitrox mix you really can't go back and forth without a lot of hassle. From what I understand it's one or the other for a given tank. Hope this helps. Check your enriched air course book. I'm sure it explains it in there.

ANTONY M The life of an aluminum tank will depend on how well it is taken care of. most shops in our area will not fill any tanks that are pre 1988 this is because the alloy that was used at that time by every tank manufaturer except Catalina. Catalina has always used 6061 aluminum. All manufactures are now using 6061. I personally have two 1976 tanks that have passed hydro and Visual Eddie current testing i still use them but very seldom. that said 20 to 30 years should be the max service life for an aluminum tank as it will have been overpressured during hydro six times as long as you take care of them they will last this long. Exposure to salt water and not being cleaned will shorten the life span of the tanks.

TOM M I have had my two tanks serviced every year and they need to be pressured tested after 5-years, I have not asked about how long they last - but mine still look brand new.

SHAWN B Your lifetime! Will outlast the k-valve. Be sure to have both your tank and k-valve inspected anually.

JONATHAN H I don't know exactly how long they're supposed to last but I bought mine five years ago and just had it hydro-tested. The test revealed that it is as good as new and ready for many more years of diving. As long as you keep water out of it and service it regularly it should last a VERY long time.

JASON M I have had this tank since 2007 and it has worked fine for me. My only complain is the valve isn't real comfortable to carry. Friend of mine bought another, more expensive, tank and his is alot easier to carry. OTherwise it holds air and has pasted inspection every year.

JACOB B Tanks are required by law to be hydrostatically tested and visually tested every 5 years. Most people, myself included, feel it is a good idea to have them visually inspected every year when you take the rest of your gear in for maintenance and service. As to the life of the tank, as long as you maintain it properly through inspections and changing of o-rings on the valve, the tank will last many many years. I have been using the same tanks for close to 10 years and I do not see any reason I cant use them for many more. If I were a dive operator my tanks may see a shorter life span just due to use and abuse but as a personal user I can take good care of mine. I hope that answers your question. Chance.

MARTIN S What are the 'Australian' standards?...the tank is hydro-tested at the time of manufacture and then has to be retested every 5 years. You have to get it visually inspected when you receive the tank and then once every year after that.

ACEY J Yes! I used to run a field and used scuba tanks just for that purpose. The downside is that most HP paintball tanks are rated for 4500 Psi where scuba tanks are 3000 Psi. Also, you'll need more than one tank to consistently get full fills. Using a cascade method I used four tanks to fill numerous tanks over a day.

ANTONY M the Pro valve is a a yoke valve with an insert. remove the insert and it is a din valve. i own 3 of them The pro valve is a K-valve.

JACK A This tank has a K-Valve not a DIN valve. Are you using this to fill a PCP air gun? If so you can buy fill adapters to fit the K-Valve.

EMMETT T A DIN Valve is the one with the yoke as opposed to the thread in connection. Most recreational divers use the DIN valve. The Catalina tanks I bought and the one pictured here have the DIN valves. Good Luck.

LeisurePro S This really depends on personal preference and what type of diving you are doing. Steel tanks are generally high pressure tanks and have larger fill pressures, but are heavier and more expensive than aluminum. Steel tanks will last virtually forever if well maintained, but since they are high pressure, often require DIN valves. Aluminum tanks are lightweight, cheaper, and more commonly used by the recreational diver. They generally have smaller fills, but only by a few hundred psi.
