Questions about this item:
Kareem M Can you analyze the gas mix through a BCD connection with this device or only through the tank? Thanks!
DOUGLAS B The analyzer works on the tank valve assembly.
DOUGLAS B The analyzer is used
KEVIN F This is hard to answer definitively not knowing the configuration of your BC, but in theory, yes, as long as you can get the tank mix to exhaust on the sensor, you should be able analyze your mix. However if the mix does not flow directly from the tank to the analyzer, you could be introducing error in the reading due to leakage or infiltration. I would recommend you place the sensor directly on the tank valve face rather than attempting to analyze it through your BCD.
ALDO C Tank only, this is the best way, save time and effort before you hook up
RANDY K You can analyze the gas mix anywhere you can get flowing gas. BCD port, free flowing reg, but I can't see why you would. I have always taken my readings from the tank before accepting the tank for diving.
DAVID U There is no connection for a BCD hose - the picture here doesn't show a small, half-round nozzle that goes on this and it is held against the tank valve.
LARRY F its just an open flow to a hole in the head, you will blow alot of air analyzing thru your BC I would think. But as long as your flowing the mix into the sensor it should read it.
Kareem M Thanks Dalelynn & Craig!
TIMOTHY D You should always analyze the tank.
Kareem M If you're in an ideal situation ie on shore, in a dive shop etc... I your on a boat heading to a destination you have too many elements to deal with to get an accurate reading direct from a tank. Thanks
DALELYNN S From the tank unless you can bleed air into the unit another way. It is made to accomplish this from the tank.
CRAIG V Although I've never done it, it seems logical that as long as you are passing gas through the BCD hose it would give you an accurate reading. So .... YES
Shopper what is the little green bulb located where you get your air sample that we can see on the pictures on the company website. I don't have it on mine. Is it something I should have?
KEN G Yes you do need it. It controls the air flow to the analyzer.
JAMES W At the base of the unit depicted on the website a white cover is visible (lower right). The white cover should be removed, and the green bulb (with a central pinhole) inserted into the hole. I believe the purpose of the cover is to extend the life of the sensor while the unit is in transit.
The green bulb is then placed in the opening of the tank and the tank valve cracked to sample the contents.
GRETCHEN C Awesome, 3 years and have not changed the battery or sensor. Get it
Shopper anyone knows how long is the sensor life on this unit?
EDMOND J Mine is still good after 4 years. I think the factory suggests 4 years. Now your mileage may vary since lifetime will depend to some degree on your use. I use mine for two to 3 dive trips each year which is pretty light usage. If you are running a dive shop and using it for nitrox checkouts, I would expect your lifetime to be much shorter.
Having said all that, I am very happy with the analyzer and would recommend it heartily.
JAMES G H The manufacturer gives the sensor life as "4-5 years in air." This is in the user's manual, under specifications or technical data. The manufacturer gives a 36 month graduated warranty on the sensor. If the sensor no longer works within 1 year of purchase, the warranty is for full replacement. It is prorated at 2 years and 3 years--information in the manual. I have used this for several years (since 2009) and have had no problems. Two suggestions to protect your investment: 1) buy and use the "sensor protector" to protect the sensor and ensure its life while it is stored or not in use; and (2) keep it in a protective case of some sort--like a Pelican box or Otter Box or similar. I have been satisfied with this instrument. It's readings are always comparable to other devices on the boat (I compare sometimes to get an idea).
Shopper To calibrate this unit, do you need a tank of regular air or does it just use atmospheric air?
JAMES S Atmospheric air...adjust according to humidity unit comes with a chart
WILLIAM H I always use compressed air from a tank to calibrate the anlayzer prior to measuring the nitrox mix. You need to purge the passage fully to get an accurate reading.
I also recommend buying the option plug to seal off the sensor when not in use. This will greatly extend the life of the sensor element which is expensive to replace.
I hope this helps!
DALELYNN S As is indicated in the documentation and the little chart that comes with it you can use ambient air. That said if the relative humidity and temperature are high you need to compensate for the difference. A difference that can push the reading to another percentage level, therefore an important step. As compressed SCUBA air from a good shop is dry it suggest that if the relative humidity and temperature are high then use the dry scuba air to help mitigate errors
LISA S All you need to calibrate is regular atmospheric air. Don't need a tank. Hope this helps!
PAVEL M just the air
there is a spheric cap on oxygen sensor,do not remove when testing,
just stick it into valve and open valve barely.
unit stays on for 80 sec.,then shuts off automaticly.
O2 sensor will last about 3 y., $100 @ L-pro
9v battery lasts about 1 y.
over all very good analyzer
MARC M It is ideal to use a tank of air, but you can use ambient air as well. On trips that I have been on, often there is a tank of air in the nitrox station for you to use to calibarate. The manual says that you can use either a known air source or ambient air. There is slight variablity in more humid air, but not so much that your mix will be skewed.
SUSAN S I always use a tank of air to calibrate this unit. It comes with a chart to calibrate without an air tank however, you have to know the air temperature and the humidity. I find if you you use the tank of air to calibrate each time, you get very accurate readings with this unit. I take this with me around the world.
PAUL B Atmospheric air. You also need to know the relative humidity, but that's not as critical. The unit will stabilize within a few seconds, and you adjust the tenth of a percent with the calibration wheel on the side, next to the display.
It works well. The blends I've tested were accurate, and therefore my dive computer settings were accurate.
Shopper Does the storage box uner accessories come with the pick and pluck foam?
LeisurePro S The box comes without foam. Here is the foam insert that fits the 1050.
Shopper What does a replacement sensor cost? Can I change the sensor myself?
LeisurePro S Yes, it is an easy do-it-yourself replacement. Here is the link to the replacement sensor product page.
Shopper What is the typical lifespan of the sensor?
LeisurePro S A battery lasts appx one year and the sensor four to five.
Shopper Is the battery user friendly? Can I change the battery myself?
LeisurePro S Yes, this analyzer takes a standard 9V battery and can be replaced by the user.
Shopper Does this product work with both DIN and YOKE valves?
LeisurePro S Yes, this analyzer will work on both din and yoke configured tanks.
Shopper Does the Analox 02 EII, SKU: AQUNAOA, come with a hard protective case?
Shopper Why Did You Choose This?
SUSAN S Works well and travels well.
RICHARD W This analyzer saved my dive trip to a remote destination. We were wreck diving and dive shop only had 1 analyzer. The line was an hour long. I pulled this out of my bag and we were on our way!
JAMES G H Good value. Company has good reputation. Ease of use.
BEAU V to analyze my own nitrox
BEN E P Quick and easy set u p for Nitorx tanks
PHIL S For use in teaching my classes on NITROX certification. It is the unit used by all the dive resorts currently
TIM M "For gas analysis of our Nitrox tanks. This unit is the industry standard and every boat I have been on has had at least one. Works perfect time after time. I love it. highly reccommended."
Andre N what causes a minus reading?
JEFFREY K I have never seen this on mine. If you are using Tri mix and have a mix of less then 21 percent oxygen perhaps that would do it.
PAUL B Never encountered a negative reading. My guess is that the relative humidity calibration that is supposed to be made relative to the temperature was not done properly, resulting in the negative reading. Or, it just broke....
JAMES G H The range of this instrument is 0.1 to 100%. I suggest you contact the company at E-Mail: info at analox dot net, since negative readings are not discussed in the troubleshooting table in the manual.
CRAIG V A negative reading is related to the calibrator on the right hand side. You adjust it to compensate for atmospheric conditions. Simple and easy to use.
