Shopper I have a 42 - 44" waist and all my wet suits are 3XL
will the X-large size fit me without self destructing?
DAVID H I can't say exactly because I don't wear your size, but they are fairly stretchy and very sturdy. I gained a lot of weight since I bought mine, and they are fine; I also wear them over my wetsuit. I can only guess, but I would think so.
JON S I have a 38" waist and have the large version. they fit ok over a 3xl semi dry 8/7mm suit. So you should be ok with the XL
DARRYL R These shorts tend to run larger than you would think for the size listed. I would THINK that XL should fitt you
MORGAN A Unfortunately, they will not. I, too, share your "mature male" stature and purchased a pair for myself with the hope I might be able to either squeeve into them or have them provide sufficient incentive to "return to my fighting weight of yesteryear". I ended up passing them to my 36 year old son whose waist aligns with these XL shorts. He loves them and finds their portable versatility across his closet full of wetsuits of varying thickness/thermal protection a more than satisfying alternative to glue-on bellows pockets for each wetsuit as I have had to do. Alas, when I tried to convince Highland to manufacture "mature male sizes", they did not appreciate the breadth (pun intended!) of the potential marketplace. I wonder when they last dived? There are plenty of us "Big Boys" out there and most of us are seasoned instructors!!!

JASON J Should fit just fine. I have about the same size waist, fluctuates between 42 & 45 :) and I own the XL pair of these. The tag says 37"-41" but they are very comfortable.
I used these for a month straight diving 3-4 times a day on a recent trip to Roatan, Honduras and they held up very well.
arrick c I'm the same size and they fit good except for the waste is cut low for me, I'm 6'5. Otherwise, I love them.

HENNY B I originally bought an XL and most weight so purchased an LL.the XL is quite big and a bit loose when I originally purchased it and was a 38 inch assist sui should be able to easily fit a 40 inch waist.

arrick c Yes, I'm closer to a 42 but the waist is cut very low. If your tall like me, 6'5, the top of my butt is almost exposed. I love them otherwise. I use them a couple of times a week.
WILLIAM H Hard to say regarding size. Leisurepro has a good return policy though in that regard. I am disappointed in these shorts in that I paid nearly $100 and after the first trip in salt water the grommets started to rust. Now they are quite rusted out. You'd think they would use higher quality stainless steel given the price.
NATHAN V Yes there is also a draw string to make things snug. I really like this product and I believe you will too if you like storing scuba gear and goodies
CLINICAL P Yes - these are really a great way to add a couple pockets - especially when you wear a number of different wetsuits.
Be sure to have them check the sewing in the seams. Sometimes they start to come apart where the pockets attach (like they didn't do a "lock stitch when they finished a run., but Leisurepro is great about taking care of its customers.

DAVID H I have a 36 inch waist and use the L size. It's slightly large, but the pull string works nicely. I couldn't go smaller. It's a tough call....maybe you can go with the Medium, because even if it's too small they probably stretch well.
CLINICAL P Probably large. I found that these ran a little small. I originally, by their sizing guidelines, ordered a large, but sent it back and got an extra large (I love LP's return/try it on at home policy). But I must warn you. Even before I used it, the stitching started coming out on one the pockets. And I found the inseam to be too small to wear over my wetsuit and still be able to tighten the waistband around my waist. I ended up sending it back.
