Doug B Linda is right - the 1,2,3 pole spear is very nice, but this thing is quite a bit smaller, which makes it easier to bring along with a lobster stick and does the trick on lionfish. I have both and use both.

KAREN C The spear was fine, the extra length is not needed unless the area you are fishing has alot of preasure. The things will sit there and give you directions to the next fish!
LINDA P In my experience the three piece sling is the fix all..use 1,2,3 of the extensions..an throw the lion spear overboard..its a joke.. good luck..

DAVID P Slings have not been a problem so far. Used it on about 15 dives, shot at about 30 lionfish and got about 20 of them......good BBQ'd

RAZ B I'm not sure. Even if there is, you could do just as well fabricating something yourself from surgical tubing and a crimp (both available for a few dollars from any hardware store).

ART R I dont know. Ive had it on a dive trip and the sling (black tubular rubber) hasnt failed nor shown signs of wear.
CHRIS H You definitely can not use a normal one they are much to big ( I have tried). You can modify them to work but it doesn't look pretty. I am not sure if there is a replacement out there but they are so cheap that after a year or two your better off buying another one. Hope this helps.

JIM D No, it will not float, due to the fact it is made of stainless steel and fiberglass...however, it is an excellent Lionfish spear if you don't mind taking it slow and getting close enough to them...I have bought two so far and gave one to a friend in Cozumel.
GEORGE T The spear will not float. I use the power band as a lanyard so as not to loose the spear.
M C The spear sinks to the bottom. No bouancy. It does work great though. We went out yesterday and sent 4 to Lionfish heaven. I recommend knocking down a few barbs though. Mine has 6 tines and all have barbs. I think two or 3 are plenty to get the job done and it will make it easier to get the Lionfish off.
ART R I've used the spear quite a bit. It handles easily and you can hold the spear and hook the tubing in the web between finger/thumb and its secure. Super sharp tip so the real issue is not hurting yourself. I would recommend a slightly longer tip - in some situations the spear is too short for Lion Fish.
DON B Absolutely NOT! Both the steel tips and the fiberglass shaft make the spear quite negatively buoyant.

ANDREW S Mini Lion Fish spear works great but still need to be careful when taking lion fish off. I use a Knife and cut it off and feed the other fish around the reef. I also found a large Pill jar to carry the tip in for my luggage.

RAZ B It will not float if you let go of it. This type of spear is designed to never leave your hand, but if you are very concerned, then tie a separate line to the spear and tie the spear off to yourself.

DAN L I just got back from a trip to Mexico and it worked real well on lionfish since you can get get right up to them before shooting. It shoots about the length of the shaft so that would be how close you have to get. I don't know if panfish would be to skittish or not. Thanks Dan
ALEX B I'm not familiar with the panfish behavior, but if you can place the pole spear within 4" to 6" from the fish this may do the job. I will suggest a longer pole spear will give you better range. I will go for anything between 3 and 4 ft. and a paralyzer tip.
